    --------
My Siblings Received Luxurious Gifts, But I Received Body Wash For Our Birthdays. Now That I'm Moving Out, Everything Is Coming Apart.
    --------
The narrator, a 25-year-old woman, details her struggles as the primary financial and emotional support for her dysfunctional family, consisting of her parents and two younger siblings, Joseph and Katrina. For years, she worked tirelessly to keep the household afloat, covering the majority of the bills and taking on household chores while her siblings failed to hold jobs, and her parents contributed little. Her father and brother adhered to traditional gender roles, leaving her with the responsibility of managing the home. Her mother, meanwhile, lived a sedentary lifestyle and showed little interest in contributing.
Despite her sacrifices, her family consistently treated her as less important, particularly when it came to gifts and celebrations. This disparity was starkly highlighted during her birthday when she received an inexpensive gift of body wash, while her siblings were given extravagant gifts and celebrations. Frustrated and hurt, she confronted her family, only to be dismissed and accused of being dramatic. This experience was the breaking point for her, leading her to realize she needed to prioritize her own happiness.
Determined to change her situation, she secretly saved money, set boundaries, and moved into her own apartment. For the first time, she experienced peace and began focusing on her own life. She developed a social life, started dating, and enjoyed the newfound independence of living on her own. However, her family, unhappy with her departure, began pressuring her to send money to support them. When she refused, they escalated their behavior, showing up uninvited at her apartment and causing a disturbance. The situation culminated in her father and brother vandalizing her home, leading to their arrest and legal consequences.
In the months that followed, the family’s situation deteriorated further. Her father was jailed for failing to comply with court-ordered restitution, her mother’s health worsened due to her sedentary lifestyle, and both siblings faced legal troubles. Joseph remained in jail for prior offenses, while Katrina was arrested for illegal activities after associating with the wrong crowd. The family home was left abandoned, vandalized, and ultimately taken over by squatters.
The narrator reflects on the rapid decline of her family’s circumstances since her departure. While saddened by their situation, she feels a sense of relief and empowerment in choosing to prioritize her well-being. She has reclaimed her life, focusing on her own goals and happiness, and no longer allows her family’s manipulation to control her. Through her journey, she learns the importance of setting boundaries and valuing herself, finding peace and purpose despite her challenging past.

Op should move out and every time they ask for support send body wash.
Apparently parasites die when the host is missing, who could have guessed.

I feel bad for them I really do, I do find a slight almost humorous justice in the fact that they lost it all over a 20.00 gift. Be generous as you can be with the people in your life.

Many 25 year olds live with there parents nowadays. In this economy and property market there isn't really much of a choice.

It's common in Asian families as well. Just because your lifestyle is a certain way doesn't mean that ours has to be as well :)

@@victor100judonot really there is a difference, jail has crappy "beds" and nothing to do at all. Where as prison usually holds people for long term there are better beds and more things to do such as going to the prison gym and watch tv but there is more dangerous people there and no privacy at all.
