That would have made a huge nice Clovis point, imagine being in the ice age hafting that giant blade to a spear, danish daggers are amazing...turned out very nice too 👍 💯

I love the way you transmuted that energy into pantient reasoning! I am now capable of that... I was not when I was a young knapper! LOL!

It just shows the patience and zen that knapping has obviously taught you over the years , it broke but you didn’t ..a good analogy to live a life moving forward

Your response to the break was... masterful, mate. Really, life is about my responses, and my take-aways. That's why I loved this video. Mostly. The technique and learning is very good, camera work up close really helps to show how youre deciding things as you go, and to notice the flow of proper types of strikes and tools. So cool. thanks.

Amazing work and I am learning so much form you, you make it look so easy with the striking of the soft hammer and getting the flakes off and I certainly seeing now how to get the size and type of flakes I need to get on my projects. I have recently found some nice reasonable sized pieces of flint I am going to try and make a spear head from. Sorry I did not work out but was great to watch and learn from. Was a great journey with many a twist and turn was great to see how you got past most the problems

That was a great video. It was such a shame to see it break, although I was cringing when I saw you line up the shot, it was as if you hessitated for a second.
Are you John Lords son? I remember trying to make an axe head with him on one occasion at a meet with Bushcraft UK. My axehead broke in half on what was meant to be the final flake............ a very gutting experience

What to use before copper? Just antler? How often does it need to be replaced (in that case) how much?

Hey Will what are the laws like over there in England concerning flint knives and possession of flint blades? I know they have some notoriously tough knife laws.

look at river beds for free flint, usually in deep river gullys, where the shale is showing..you can find some decent flint..without paying for it..you could even find some nice red and white agate bake it for 4 hours at 400degrees and it knaps like a dream into really nice arrowheads daggers, spears, axes.. and its a work of art..

40:40, after the stream of curses I'd spew for 3 to 5 minuets, I'd set aside the tip, for, maybe, an arrow, then I'd shape whichever end of the knife is easiest into a new tip, & mount that sucker on a wood or bone handle!

notice how he strikes the stone at 46:20 he hit the stone three times and it did not release a flake. Erret Callahan (my flintknapping master) told me if the flake does not release after the your third strike something is wrong and you need to scrutinize the platform again and lunch another attack on the stone if you ignore that fact than what happend in the video will occur often. I know Will Lord knows what he is doing he has done this craft all his life this information is for the beginners in this craft

I wouldn't bother shaping a handle out've the bottom part, I'd just fasten it to half a deer or elk leg bone with pine pitch, sinew, & hide glue.

Western Europeans bred with the neanderthal. So we don't just have the routine human 150,000 years of evolution, but 450,000 years and a bunch of genetic cheat sheets, like skin that thermoregulates better in hot and cold (yes, hot too, contrary to popular belief, pale skin reflects sunlight more and dumps heat faster) - this also includes potential oral tradition and learning of technologies, which may well be why western Europeans are behind 99.99% of all technology on the planet up until the late 20th century.
