The enemy does have much, much more firepower than you, and a straight up firefight *will* end in your death. The best tactic is to sneak up behind the enemy stronghold, blow a hole in the wall and rush in to demolish the building/rescue the hostages/kill the guards and grab the first getaway car you see before the guards in the building can group up and way before the army of reinforcements arrive. Or plow into the enemy stronghold with a stolen car then proceed as above, which is basically the first plan in fast forward. Either way, the emphasis is very much on using whatever you can find to take down someone far more powerful than you - attack hard and fast, then disappear into the environment before they can mobilise a counter attack. Very guerrilla.
@@qty1315 Eh, real guerilla insurgents have made pretty liberal use of IEDs and other trapped explosives, since it's a good way to deliver firepower for guerillas. If the enemy can predict your attacks then they can defeat you, since they have greater forces, but if your attacks are sudden, unpredictable, and aren't attached to larger forces that can be lost (say, small scale ambushes with VBIEDs) then you can force the enemy to use a lot of resources trying to defend against these attacks on all fronts, since they can;t know where they will occur and thus have to defend anywhere they could occur (or else you just pick the undefended targets). Vehicles are readily available enough that it's well worth it to lose one if you can cause actual damage to the enemy or just force them to use resources defending against that damage. Making explosives is important since direct weapons are way less likely to work against a more powerful foe. And guns are sorta the basic prerequisite for fighting men, so if you don't have some of those, you aren't really able to wage a guerilla campaign at all.

Red Faction obviously exists in the one where the 3rd Street Saints never rose from mediocrity to spread joy-joy murder across their world's popular culture like so much raspberry jam, leading a future devoid of their exuberant energy.

She doesn't have Hydra boss battles YET. I'm pretty sure that the setting of the Saints Row games basically lets them do whatever they want, so unless the series dies, it should eventually do just about everything.
I feel like this game would have been better if the main character was a gun-toting lunatic who thirsted for destruction, not the freedom of Mars. Like he marches into the Red Faction base all "Behold, your lord and savior!" At first their like "waht the fuk" but then they see how much of a badass he is, and dry to direct destructive tendencies in the EDF's general direction. They try to reel him in, all "Listen, we gotta go in fast and quiet..." but then the main character (controlled by the player of course!) ends up leveling buildings full of EDF genero-goons. Also, the main character should have a badass face-helmet that he wears all the time. yeah. Yeah that'd be good.

Mars has like 2/3 the gravity of Earth, so not only does everything weigh less there to start with, a body acclimated to standard Earth gravity would have equivalent to mild Super Strength, so if you came there straight from here, you'd be able to swing a thirty earth-pound wrecking hammer like an aluminum baseball bat--the trick here being that, if I remember my physics days properly, said stick of compressed fuckoffnium would still hit like a ton of bricks.
So technically, in theory, if someone went to Mars, they'd be possibly able to do the sort of things like one can do in this game? That's pretty badass.

I loved Red Faction so much back in the day. I spent hours in the first mine level dingging tunnels with C4. All the weapon were nothing new but all had a little twist to them, like the 3 barrels assault rifle, or the thermal optic rocket laucher. There were a lot of vehicules including a drill tank. The story wasn't really original but I felt invested in the fight against ultor. The 2nd one was aweful tho, with almost no destruction possible
Jake Jakington red faction guerilla came out much much later. It was fun in it's own right, but like every open world at the time it was empty, and the story wasn't compelling to me.

I just got this game from Games with Gold and did the first thing Yahtzee did.... murder all the colonist to see what would happen when moral was zero... then I died.... So far, one hour into the game, I couldn't care less about the stupid plot but am having fun blowing things up and smashing them down.
That was the best part. I remember mining my way from the starting point to the map's ending point, was pretty happy about it. Also entering combat from the fucking ground was badass :D
red faction has been my favourite series of all time. Not because I enjoyed the single player, but because I remember hundreds of hours of me and my brother and all my friends playing that game and blowing the shit out of each other.

On the bright side later on you get the disintegrate every thing gun and the ability to have infinite moral after the formality of the story so at least they under stand some things. It's one of the best fuckyroundy sandboxes. And I highly recommend it.
For the record, Red Faction Guerilla features these pointless but amusing dogtags or I.D cards or glowing orbs of orange filth or whatever they are around the huge map of Mars. One of the dogtags apparently belonged to... Shaundi from Saints Row 2.
I sympathize with you Yathzee. The day I learned that the world will just crap on you sometimes was when my dad gave my brother a PS3, something we both had been saving up for. The only problem was that for MY birthday he said he would pay for my half of the PS3, which was about $500. He basicly took MY birthday present away from me to pay for MY BROTHER'S BIRTHDAY PRESENT. The thing is, he still hasn't apologized or given back my birthday present yet.
I personally loved this game because after playing once like the well trained hamster I am then took mjolnir then went mad and never turned around to see the flat expanding mass behind me
This game is a ton of fun, and while the cons described in this video are accurate and can be kinda annoying, it's never really bothered me or stopped me from having fun destroying everything. There have been so many moments in this game that have coincidentally played out like a Micheal Bay movie, like taking out a gunship that crashes right next to you in the building you're in, and then climbing up to the roof while everything around you collapses and then shooting rockets down at everyone below. It's absolutely badass. The plot is nothing special though, but thankfully cutscenes are few and far between.
I played this before Saints Row 2 which I promptly bought after discovering they were by the same developer. Saints Row might be the one I like more but after my XBOX died and the mods to make SR2 refused to take on my hilariously outdated laptop I would have to say that Red Faction Guerrilla wins my affections by default. Just wish there was mods to make the map Stillwater. I would love to see the carnage of myself, a tank, and several thousand explosives in the heart of that city. I would buy a modern console if such a thing were possible on it, but alas those dreams are crushed by modern gaming' reliance on graphics instead of that type of carnage, but Just Cause 2 plays perfectly well on my fossil of a PC so I can have those dreams fulfilled, with grappling gun included.
I played maybe 4 hours of the campaign, and around 30 hours in the "here's a group of buildings, destroy as much as you can before time runs out" mode. So I guess I got my money's worth.
I really liked Red Faction. I remember playing as a kid and being really scared of having to swim inside a pool of water crawling with mutant pirahnas so I spent an hour using all of my ammunition blowing a hole to the next level. That was awesome.
Clearly he does not understand the gravity physics in play. It is based off Mars gravity with is slightly above 1/3 of earth gravitational force. SO yes material could be suspend with less support far longer.
Not only that but in the canon (and if you look at the hammer) it holds a charge, when you swing a servo activates and you hit far harder than the swing looks.
daveman247 I found a glitch in the game using the super hammer cheat. Go to EOS and find the cars that are kinda like a bus. blow it up, break the door off, turn on the super hammer cheat, go inside, then do a vertical swing and it throws the car really far.

The real thing about Guerrila warfare is that it's not exactly sneaky, it's basicly named after the actual guerrilas, the monkies, who assault once and leave before their target recovers to put up a fight. Then to come back and assault again hoping for the same result.

yeah i remeber Red Faction i didnt own it myself but a friend did, and what few statements of goodness were few and far between or obviously empty self justification. infact i cant remeber anyone saying more than "it ok" when asked how good it was. So i guess Yahtzee's opinion is held by many.
For Yahzee's last criticism on this game: I highly recommend playing it on the hardest difficulty. Getting your shit kicked in during fights enforces that guerrilla play-style.

I agree with Bloodraider, Red Faction was a decent game about Rebellion, while I grossly disliked the fact I could not use the geo mod after the first part of the game until later on it was still fun to use those same weapons to see through walls and turn guards into giblets. Now Guerilla was fun for me and I tended to use guerrilla warfare and stealth to enter unexpected and destroy the area before the EPS knew I was there.
Red Faction: Guerrilla, or Troy Baker's prior history before he inexplicably became Boss of the Saints after liberating Mars. i guess since Saints Row the Third was once free under XBL Games for Gold it's only appropriate that this game is also free.
What thats exactly what guerilla warfare is its hit and run tatics designed to disorient the enemy and is usually used in ones own country by rebels xD its basically the best tactic possible for defence

On the bright side later on you get the disintegrate every thing gun and the ability to have infinite moral after the formality of the story so at least they under stand some things. It's one of the best fuckyroundy sandboxes. And I highly recommend it.
Red faction 1 was awesome... And so is Guerrilla.
Had so much fun with this game I destroyed ever single building in that game and found the little mars rover Easter egg and played with it.
For the record, Red Faction Guerilla features these pointless but amusing dogtags or I.D cards or glowing orbs of orange filth or whatever they are around the huge map of Mars. One of the dogtags apparently belonged to... Shaundi from Saints Row 2.

I sympathize with you Yathzee. The day I learned that the world will just crap on you sometimes was when my dad gave my brother a PS3, something we both had been saving up for. The only problem was that for MY birthday he said he would pay for my half of the PS3, which was about $500. He basicly took MY birthday present away from me to pay for MY BROTHER'S BIRTHDAY PRESENT. The thing is, he still hasn't apologized or given back my birthday present yet.

I really loved guerrilla
I personally loved this game because after playing once like the well trained hamster I am then took mjolnir then went mad and never turned around to see the flat expanding mass behind me
This game is a ton of fun, and while the cons described in this video are accurate and can be kinda annoying, it's never really bothered me or stopped me from having fun destroying everything. There have been so many moments in this game that have coincidentally played out like a Micheal Bay movie, like taking out a gunship that crashes right next to you in the building you're in, and then climbing up to the roof while everything around you collapses and then shooting rockets down at everyone below. It's absolutely badass. The plot is nothing special though, but thankfully cutscenes are few and far between.
He's never happy, he just gets slightly less suicidal and slightly less filled with bloodlust.

I played this before Saints Row 2 which I promptly bought after discovering they were by the same developer. Saints Row might be the one I like more but after my XBOX died and the mods to make SR2 refused to take on my hilariously outdated laptop I would have to say that Red Faction Guerrilla wins my affections by default. Just wish there was mods to make the map Stillwater. I would love to see the carnage of myself, a tank, and several thousand explosives in the heart of that city. I would buy a modern console if such a thing were possible on it, but alas those dreams are crushed by modern gaming' reliance on graphics instead of that type of carnage, but Just Cause 2 plays perfectly well on my fossil of a PC so I can have those dreams fulfilled, with grappling gun included.
It was truly a noble price for Bob to sell those kondoms for so sheep.

I played maybe 4 hours of the campaign, and around 30 hours in the "here's a group of buildings, destroy as much as you can before time runs out" mode. So I guess I got my money's worth.
All I heard was "Shoite" and I damn well laughed my ass off.
I really liked Red Faction. I remember playing as a kid and being really scared of having to swim inside a pool of water crawling with mutant pirahnas so I spent an hour using all of my ammunition blowing a hole to the next level. That was awesome.
Clearly he does not understand the gravity physics in play. It is based off Mars gravity with is slightly above 1/3 of earth gravitational force. SO yes material could be suspend with less support far longer.
Not only that but in the canon (and if you look at the hammer) it holds a charge, when you swing a servo activates and you hit far harder than the swing looks.

daveman247 I found a glitch in the game using the super hammer cheat. Go to EOS and find the cars that are kinda like a bus. blow it up, break the door off, turn on the super hammer cheat, go inside, then do a vertical swing and it throws the car really far.

The real thing about Guerrila warfare is that it's not exactly sneaky, it's basicly named after the actual guerrilas, the monkies, who assault once and leave before their target recovers to put up a fight. Then to come back and assault again hoping for the same result.
I'm assuming that "the hammer of Mjollnir" is used in the same way one might say "the city of Paris"

yeah i remeber Red Faction i didnt own it myself but a friend did, and what few statements of goodness were few and far between or obviously empty self justification. infact i cant remeber anyone saying more than "it ok" when asked how good it was. So i guess Yahtzee's opinion is held by many.

I highly recommend playing it on the hardest difficulty. Getting your shit kicked in during fights enforces that guerrilla play-style.

I agree with Bloodraider, Red Faction was a decent game about Rebellion, while I grossly disliked the fact I could not use the geo mod after the first part of the game until later on it was still fun to use those same weapons to see through walls and turn guards into giblets. Now Guerilla was fun for me and I tended to use guerrilla warfare and stealth to enter unexpected and destroy the area before the EPS knew I was there.
After hearing the part of a building not toppling until youre underneath it i went and tested it... And yeah thats pretty accurate

Red Faction: Guerrilla, or Troy Baker's prior history before he inexplicably became Boss of the Saints after liberating Mars. i guess since Saints Row the Third was once free under XBL Games for Gold it's only appropriate that this game is also free.
What thats exactly what guerilla warfare is its hit and run tatics designed to disorient the enemy and is usually used in ones own country by rebels xD its basically the best tactic possible for defence
