My parents often spoke of Jack Doyle when I was a young lad and all I can say now is 'what a terrible pity he didn't take the opportunity of becoming perhaps the most famous Irishman of his period'. But in truth, perhaps as young fellows we would have all 'fell by the wayside' if the same temptation was put in front of us?

Needed a better trainer when he was young. He seemed to paw, hook , or measure with his left. Hardly ever stepped forward with a left jab. Almost always stepped in to bomb with his right. Could have been more with a better left with his height and reach.
