She didn't originally want to do Where in the World in Carmen Sandiego because she felt the schedule was too harsh. 64 shows in 3 months, it turned out to be done in 6 weeks. But after several auditions she was given the job. The role of Chief was written for her and the producers knew she was the best for the role.

Cherlynne Theresa "Lynne" Thigpen
Born: Wednesday December 22, 1948 Joliet, Illinois.
Death: Wednesday March 12, 2003 Marina del Ray, California. Age 54
On Wednesday night at her home, she was found unconscious by a friend named author Larry Aronson moments before she died. She died during the production of the episode ''The District'' as police chief Ella Farmer Season 3 Episode 21.
I hated her in Lean on me, but I grew to love her because of Carmen San Diego. She will always be one of my favorite actresses. Rest well Queen. The Chief will live forever.
Definitely remember Lynne Thigpen in "Where in the world Is Carmen Sandiego".

I played that game a ton as a child. Such great memories!
God bless (and rest) her soul. She was such a huge part of my childhood: to me, she will always be The Chief from the Carmen Sandiego shows and the games, too. It wasn't until in my teenage years (after Carmen was not airing reruns or new episodes anymore) that I learned of her Broadway background as well as realizing she was in movies like Tootsie, Godspell & Bicentennial Man.
I didn't even hear that she had passed until I saw Anger Management (she played the judge and at the end, it was dedicated to her) and listening to Adam Sandler's commentary that she had passed right after the movie was released...definitely broke my heart because she was such a huge part of my life from age 6-12...that's when the shows were really popular and the computer games were brought into the world.
I'll always remember her saying, "This is Lynne Thigpen speaking for Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego and remember..." whatever her riddles/improv would be always made me laugh and even more so as an adult.
A real working actress. Best for TV. She was amazing on Carmen Sandiego so fun for kids.

Me too.. Out if all the projects she has done, these 2 will always stand out for me when I think of Lynn. I saw Lean On Me on TV a few months ago and my dad still watch reruns of The District and we talk about her. What a career she had. It's in the recent years I'm learning of all these credits she had under her belt.

I don't get how dying is tragic when it happens to everyone eventually.
Tragic is usually fallen under murdered, freak accident, wreck...whereas simply passing away in your sleep is portrayed as less tragic but yes death is apart of life.
Eventually. 54 is way too young. That alone makes it tragic.
