    So amazing! I am happy I found your channel. I did a 3-year-apprenticeship as a bespoke menswear tailor 20 years ago. And learned it with the "bare" minimum of tools. Now, it is very interesting to see, that there are more tools to do the work. Especially the one to cut the pocket-corner open will be my new go-to tool. Cause I always had problems to make the corners neat and sharp. However, I hope I will be able to do a bespoke suit again. I remembered it to be quite difficult and complicated. Looking forward to your next lesson.So amazing! I am happy I found your channel. I did a 3-year-apprenticeship as a bespoke menswear tailor 20 years ago. I often use tracing paper to trace patterns, then drape the trace onto a mannequin, and modify the style lines and seams with Sharpie pens or a 0.9 mm pencil. The paper substitutes for muslin, can't stretch, and is cheaper. Scotch tape comes in handy to hold seams, darts, and pleats together.

    I wasn't expecting you to start until after New Year. Thanks for an unexpected Christmas present! I realize you've finished recording all of our course videos. I hope you're covering what heat setting to use on the outer cloth and the inner layers, and when a pressing cloth is or is not required. The heat setting and press cloth and for how long you press down must depend on the type of fabric being used.

    • @OFFICIALISOT
      @OFFICIALISOT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pleasure is all mine. It will be covered.🙏🏼😄
      Pressing cloth is mainly used on the right side of the fabric.
      Heat settings vary per iron. This you will have to experiment with. “Linen” settings on domestic irons tend to burn wool. Be careful with that.

    Reza, your lessons are great, thorough and generous in sharing your big expertise. Thank you very much for offering them for free on TH-cam. I would like to ask, what would be the minimum dimensions for the board? I have a rather small room to use as a workroom and it would be very helpful to know an approximated minimum size that fulfils the needs of tailoring privately. Thanks in advance!

    This is great! And it sounds like the board is by far the most expensive item on the 'to get list'. Any chance you have a great, innovative option for that as well? ^^. Could we get away with using pine? What's the smallest board size we can feasibly still work on? I don't have much room, so I'm thinking of a removable top for another bench in my workshop.
    Edit: Other than the door option, of course. I'm not all that enthused about that. Feels a bit *too* cheap :P. I'm thinking of something in the middle.

    Excellent video, thank you. Do you draft your patterns on this same table with the moleskin? Wondering if the pencil would poke through the paper at all.

    • @OFFICIALISOT
      @OFFICIALISOT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do draft my patterns on the same table. It depends on how soft the felt underneath your cloth is, the thickness of your paper and how hard you press. I rarely poke the paper.

    Hi, thank you so much for your videos. I find them very inspiring. I was asked to help clear an old door into a skip but have claimed it instead for a tailor’s board. Is it best for the board to be 30 wide to take folded fabric? This wood is 29 inch wide and I’m toying with adding a strip of wood to make it wider.

    • @OFFICIALISOT
      @OFFICIALISOT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! You're welcome!
      You don't need a wider cloth to fold over all the 4 edges of your board. It's optional. It does make your board look neater.
      As long as you fold the side and front edges of you're board, you can leave the edge facing away from you without cloth. It can be covered by your first felt layer which is usually available in wider widths.

    Thank you for the lesson! I was just considering to go learning tailoring, but
    I’m not sure if I can stick on it, but I’m really interested in the menswear and how to make a suit, perhaps I can make my own suit by following your videos. I don’t have any experience in this.
    Only some basic hand sewing skills. Is that possible?

    • @OFFICIALISOT
      @OFFICIALISOT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello!
      I'm glad that you are considering this choice! I can recommend our playlist on how to use a thimble and basic tailoring stitches if you want to give it a try. See if it's something that keeps you interested while you're doing it and based on that, move one more step forward.
      We never know if we like something until we actually get practical. If you already have basic sewing skills, you can naturally progress towards the tailoring basics that I discuss in the lessons and hopefully move towards making a practice jacket :)
      Link to our basics playlist:

      Good luck and keep me posted!

    • @OFFICIALISOT

      Hello Gregory,
      You don’t need much experience. What you do need is to know how to use a thimble which can easily be learned by watching our playlist called basic Tailoring Stitches. The you’ll find all the basic stitches that you need to know before starting out.

    Are there any alternatives to moleskin for the board cover and press cloth that would be good? Tried looking for some, but I can’t seem to find any sellers in the US. Thanks!

    • @OFFICIALISOT
      @OFFICIALISOT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Moleskin can indeed be difficult to find.
      Please try the following for affordable moleskin:
      - Yorkshire Fabric:
      www.yorkshirefabric.com/collections/moleskin
      - Chapman Group
      www.chapmangroup.co.uk/shop/
      - Brisbane Moss
      www.brisbanemoss.co.uk/product-category/moleskin/
      Alternatively you can look into dense, heavy weight, plain weave cotton canvases. The wrong side of denims and gaberdines (without stretch) work as well.
