Fixed my blower today with your video help. My fan speed switch selector just stopped working. Vent switch worked fine. Was about to change blower motor. AUTOZONE didn't have in stock. He checked motor using a pair of alligator clips and connected to a 12v battery. Worked fine. He let me buy a resistor and hook it up. He said if it don't work he give me my money back. It worked fine and now I have more air blowing than I have ever had. Resistor must have been failing for a while. Kudos to AUTOZONE and your video help. Thanks.
Thank you for your video. I changed my control as you showed and it turned out exactly as you showed. Cost $47 and one hour. The most difficult part was splicing the wires.
While there is many things that can get in the way of the heater system, if you are getting heat, it can only really be 1. the blower motor itself(seized or seizing), 2.the resistor or 3. the controls. Since the resistor is already done and out of the way, then the next step is the controls itself. It is actually more common for the controls to go vs the resistor or the blower motor. So I would change that next.
thanks!! appreciate the comment. keeping it straightforward and bs free is the best...I don't like watching a vid that has too much other crap happening in it either. hope the video helped. thanks for watching!
I like that you bought all of the facing again. Looks like you replaced everything and spliced those wires in just right. Our cable was melty but not completely messed up so I didnt have to splice but it was the SAME pin. Fricking GM
Thanks, your video helped me get this exact job done today without braking any clips or the dash, :) I was struggling to get the parts off without braking anything, and I wasn't sure if i was doing this right since the clips were very tight. Very helpful, Awesome work!!
you have shown me what my problem is except i have the control for both drivers and passingers .....sides...... now i have to find a good control box for mine ....thanks so much .......
Its getting really hard to find these days. I had to get the replacement in a junkyard. These days I don't even see them there anymore. Seems to be ebay or Craigslists, and even then as these cars get older, it is becoming rarer.
@@NexusAuto thank you ....l found one on e-bay $39 plus 10 shipping.....hope its a good one ....thanks you did a great on the video ....keep up the good work
Nexus: Very helpful video.I have a 2005 Rendezvous with DIC and dual slider temp controls. The blend control knob does nothing. Here's my fear: How do I know the problem is the blend control switch? Could the real problem be the actuator mechanism? If so, what does that mean - can you fix it or does that make it mechanic time?I hope you still monitor this site as I'm about to drive from Minnesota to Dallas and the windows keep needing defrost and I can't get the air on the windshield.Thanks.
hi Jim. i do still monitor the videos, so no worries there. unfortunately, it can be either or. most times, its the slider controls and not the actuator. I've changed dozens of these heater controls, and only ever had to do one actuator. they are a pain. the only true way to know is to turn on the system, and test the actuator, but they are a pain in the ass to test. because of this, I do recommend changing the controls first, but its a gamble and may not fix the issue. sorry, I know this doesnt directly answer the question, but without testing it myself, its the best I can give. maybe pull off the dash cover first, and disconnect the heater controls...check the wiring for any scorching/burns/melting. start there first. its only about 1/2 hr to check that, so it may save you a lot of time and a drive
Good stuff. I got a 03 Rendezvous for my daughter and the A/C would not come on period. Came across your video, checked the climate control and sure enough...fan control was burned out. My question is, what would cause it to burn out? I'm in the process of replacing the climate controls and wondered how could I stop it from burning out again.
You can, but you have to be skilled at soldering in LED bulbs. It's not standard bulbs inside, if I recall. You have to open the unit, remove the old LED bulbs, and solder in new ones. I'm not sure of another way to get it done
@@perrinjeanmichel8789 Unfortunately, I don't have a contact number that I give out. But if you have a question, you can message here and I normally answer within 24 hrs.
Great video, of course I got it changed but nope still not working. Just my luck. So am assuming it must me the resistor. Sometimes I can hear what seems to be the "vents or doors " trying to open. I hope that made. When I would turn it to defrost it would work but no fan or blower. Ill look to see if you have a video on the resistor. Great video though
Hope you got it figured out. I don't have a video on the resistor, unfortunately. But sounds like you're on the right track to me. Those fail very frequently too.
Thanks, love my 2002 Rendevouz and I've decided to restore it, now. I need to replace lightbulbs behind the dash panels and decided I'll just do tham all. Do you have a video on that?
That's awesome news. They are actually pretty good SUVs. This was my parents SUV, but they unfortunately sold it years ago, before I could do more work to it. They still want it back to this day
Thank you for this info. I was wondering also, I had my car worked on at a shop and when I went to pick it up, after hours, I noticed the heater control area was not lit up (where the dials are)? The only thing that was illuminated was the clock read out? I really noticed it because it was SO DARK!! Now, I can't remember if the dials were illuminated or not? If so, are there bulbs in there to light the dials up so you can see while you are driving? I think there were! Just not sure before I go to the expense of having fixed or fixing it? Thanks for listening!
Hey. It's been a while since I worked on these models, but they were illuminated, off memory. Aside from the clock, were all the lights off, or just the heater controls? What about the cluster, like the gauges and stuff? There are bulbs inside, but they are LED bulbs and can't be easily changed. Also, sometimes if the lights are not working, it may not be the switch, but the plug on the back as you see in this video. Hopefully it's an easy fix
thank you for responding. just the heater controls were not lit. Gauges and speedometer were lit and the clock, everything else, heater dials were dark. So I have to take down the panel under the steering wheel and then the front cover over the speedometer area, (sorry, don't know exact name for panel and such), then unscrew the heat unit and pull it out. But how do I change the lights behind the heater dials? Are there screws to remove to replace the lights? Thank you in advance for helping. @@NexusAuto
@maryjohnson8755 no problem. OK, so that's good news that the other gauge lights are working. For removal, sounds like you have it right. But for the lights, it's not easy to replace. It's a sealed unit, so you have to open it, and solder in née LED bulbs. It's not removable bulbs like the other interior/Exterior lights. If you're not handy with a soldering iron, you won't be able to change the bulbs. You'll ha e to replace the whole unit itself
UGH!!! Sounds a little more complicated to do the lights but it's driving me nuts that they are not lit...!!! I will have grandson watch your video and see if he would like to tackle for me. I so appreciate you giving me this information. @@NexusAuto
Great video and explanations! My 2003 CX blower blows out cold from all settings - including the defrost setting but slide to heat and nothing blows out in the cabin. Defrost will still blow some cold air but no heat blows out. Thermostat is ok and coolant is ok and cabin filters are clean. Ideas??
Thank you very much for publishing that video. Unfortunately, it did not address my problem. I have a 2005 Buick Rendezvous. The temperature and fan controls work fine, but the air comes out the front only. No matter in which position I place the control knob, the air comes out the front. I got another control switch at a local junk yard, but it doesn't work either. So I don't know if the unit I bought is also bad or if there's a problem with whatever controls the air flow door. I also checked the connector from my car, the connector side of my Control Switch unit, and that of the unit I bought at the junk yard. They all look like new. What could be the problem?
That sounds like the blend door or the blend door actuator is at fault (the actuator is more likely to fail vs the blend door itself). Hard to truly say without being there, but if the controls check out ok, the actuator is where I would look next.
hey .....i thought my control climate control was bad so i found one and got it.after watching your video.....but with the new one it is still doing the same thing....could it be the activator that should close the a/c vents on the passenger side messing up.? and where is it and how do i get it out.? thanks for responding
Hi Mike. Before I answer, give me an idea what is happening. Does the heater respond to changing the fan speeds? Does it change through the heating ranges? (Defroster, upper vents, lower vents, etc)
A little ox-guard on those connections at the factory and that may never happen. They get an oxide coating on those connectors and viola, the resistance to current flow causes them to heat up and burn out.
Makes sense. Can't say for sure that the wires had developed any oxide coating and thats the cause, but the increased resistance would cause that for sure.
@@NexusAuto Not so much the wires themselves but rather all the contact points - the crimp wire to tab and then pin to slot etc. I have never known for sure but I have always assumed that crimped connectors are aluminum. Aluminum is bad for heating up when oxidized. I have always felt if one wanted a connection to always work one would solder it.
I have an 02 Rendezvous and I have the issue you show with the fan speed knob sticking. it appears this video is what I need, to replace the panel. I also have issue with ac passenger side blows cold but driver side blows hot. I was told told unplug something from the blower motor until winter then plug it back in. But is this really the correct fix?
Thanks for the video. It explained what is going on with my heater control. I do have another issue that just came up. I have a 2004 CX AWD 3.4l, and it seems to lose power when I reach a certain spot on the accelerator. I've had the catalytic converter checked, thought it might be plugged, but it's good. I've had the fuel pressure checked, thinking that the engine is starving from fuel, but it's good as well. I've cleaned the throttle body and oxygen/fuel sensor, and air filters, all to no avail. I've not checked the throttle position sensor because I don't know where to start. I can't find any information about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I also have a heater core problem, getting anti-freeze smell through HVAC. Can you tell me if i need to remove the dashboard to R&R the heater core? Any shortcuts?
Hello, what should I do if the heat/cool blender does not work? I have A/C, and fan, but the heat dial does nothing...no hot air. The heater core is connected and circulating. Thanks.
Hard to say without being there to test it, but the 2 common issues is either the blend door actuator, or the same heater controls in this video. If the controls are malfunctioning/damaged/burnt, then the controls may not send the signal to change between heat and AC. But the actuator does fail often, so start by testing that
This is awesome....I have the 2002 Rendezvous CL w digital control module. the control knobs and buttons light up but the LCD is dead and ac/heat will not come on at all. checked all fuses, etc..all ok. there are no obvious signs on the control module itself of anything burnt out. how do I test the module in this case? no power to it at all except the button "dash" lights. Any Ideas Please?
Hello thanks for watching. I can answer this for you, but its not a great answer. The LCD screen failing is a bit of a common issue too. It is not as common as the heater controls melting, but it does fail. When it does fail, there is pretty much no fix. You have to get a new one. If someone is particularly handy, they can open the unit and try to repair it. But there is no real fix to it. If the LCD is off, but the knobs light up, then time for a new unit.
Hello I have a question. I’ve done everything you have done in the video. I went to the junk yard and replaced the pigtail and the part it locks into and it still doesn’t blower air or heat. I put a new blower Motor in with a new resistor and nothing happened could you please help? By the way it’s the cx version 2004
Hi Michael. Sounds like a big problem for sure. Let me get some details. What happened when you put on the heating controls? does it turn on any air at all? Have you tried different fan speeds as well? (numbers 1, 2, 3, etc). Any reaction at all? And have you tried both heat an AC, and see if there is a difference?
yesterday the fan wouldn't work , i replaced the fuse , still didn't work . was ready to tare things apart for repairs , turned the car on & the fan worked . Early in the day when it wouldn't work the temp. outside was + 4* , when i turned it on & it worked at 2a.m. today , the temp was + 15* . The car is a 2006 Rendezvous . Obviously i'm probably looking at a situation which may repeat itself later . Don't know what i should do ( in the way of buying parts ahead of time ) to be ready if something occurs . What are your thoughts ? Paul Your video was EXCELLENT !
Wow, that was so useful and so practical - I feel like I've just learned more about my little favourite Rendezvous than I've ever known, before - and good to know I'm not the only one with the 3 and 5 all screwy for the air - lol! My problem is with the heat sensor light - the little red light that looks like a temperature gauge, keeps coming on, the car feels fine, just took it in for a check and oil change. Does it need a new water pump? Or is the sensor screwed up? The fuel gauge has been off for years - literally - so my mechanic said to just fill the car up every 200 km - I fill it up after every 200 km, just to be on the safe side. And I have a 2002 CX Buick Rendezvous - looks like the one in the video - lol! Thanks! Very clearly done, this whole video : > Ailsa
@Efwin-o8b that could be a few problems, and would need to be diagnosed. Assuming the cooling system is fine and coolant is flowing, you could have a blocked heater core or heater core line. You may also have an issue with the controls itself not allowing it switch from cool to heat. Or the internal blend door (which is a plastic flap on the inside that moves between heating and cooling) could be broken. Or the blend door actuator could be bad. And a few other things. Unfortunately too hard to tell without being there. There is a few things you could check quickly to help narrow it down. For the heater core lines (2 rubber hoses that go from the engine to the firewall, once the car is warmed up and the heat is one, one should be hot, and the other should be very warm (or almost as hot). Be carefully when checking this...don't get burned. If one is cold, you have a blockage. When you switch from cool to heat, you should hear a little whirring noise from under the dash, on the passenger side. Do you hear it? If yes, then the controls and actuator works. If not, then likely either the controls or actuator is bad (or bad wiring). That's a start, but that is something that does need a proper diagnosis
Darn man your a natural behind the camera you should try offering your services to do seminars or make video trainer material on all kinds of subjects.
Hi, great video I have a 2003 Buick Rendevous CXL model with a heater gate issue it only blows out on the windshield vent when controls are turned to heat but all works fine when it's set on Ac mode what do you think I should do to fix this, thank you.
Unfortunately, there could be a few issues that can cause this. But I would start with the same control unit this video talks about. I would say to take it out and inspect it and see if there are any burns, melting or damage. And if you happen to have a junkyard close by, try and get a used control unit and try it. See if the same thing happens. That's what I would start with.
Fixed the step motors on the instrument cluster for a 2004 Rendevous for the gauges but now the gear indicator is not lighting up. It was working before we pulled it out. Any suggestions? We tried to make sure there was no broken solder around it.
Thanks! Appreciate the comment, and glad it helped! The backup sensors are controlled through the AWD fuse, which is a 15 amp fuse located in the fuse box under the hood. Hope that helps out!
Thanks this helped alot. But right after I fixed the heater controls, the TC and ABS lights stay on (apparently means off). I'm not sure if they are connected at all but, i've looked everywhere but found nothing. Please help.
I have changed the Thermostat, Water Pump, the Engine Coolant Temp (ETC) sensor on top the Thermostat, flushed the Radiator. Even changed out the blower fan resistor. Trying to flushing the Heater core is next. No signs of leak, Overheating, and no coolant circulation. Could this be the cause? A guy I know at a Local auto store said that it was the blender doors?
Question. I’ve replaced this power head in my 05 Rendezvous. But have to replace it again for problems in the speed selector knob for the fan. But my problem is that no matter what the speed is even if it’s working properly, is that there just doesn’t seem to be much force behind the fan. There is heat and I can hear the blend door working when I switch from floor to panel to defrost. Just doesn’t push much air. Barely enough to defrost the window. I have to go back and for between heat an defrost to keep the window clear. I’ve also replaced the cabin filters. They are clean. It just seems to me that there should be a lot more force behind the fan. Any suggestions?
It is really hard to say from here, but there is some possibilities that come to mind. First..I want to clarify with you. You said you can hear the blend door working. Do you feel the air change direction as well? When you put it to the foot wells, the air comes out correctly? Did you try all the various vent settings to make sure it is blowing ok? Second...when you switch the vents, if the air comes out from the correct vent, do all the vents have low air? As in, I have seen scenarios where the air is low no matter which vent it is coming from (feet, face, defroster, etc). I have seen other scenarios where air comes out really strong from some vents (lets say feet, for example), but then low air from another vent setting (lets say face). Is it low air all the time? Of course, this is an armchair diagnosis, so take it for what it is. But I am leaning on 3 possibilities...the blower motor, the blower motor resistor, or the blend door actuator. If the air changes direction correctly, and it blows very little air no matter the setting, it is likely either the blower motor or the resistor. If the air does not switch correctly or blows strong in some vents and not in others, then it may be the actuator. I would start with these things first.
Nexus Auto.. Thanks for the quick reply. I really appreciate it. Is seems to be low air everywhere. And yes, I can hear the blend door switching with the selector. I also can hear the fan increase when selecting speeds and it does increase air flow, but not much. It almost seems that there is something stuck in there restricting air flow. I also own an 03 Subaru Outback that the heater fan will blow you out of the car. The difference between the 2 is Night and day. Thanks for the info. I will be replacing the power head again today and will see if it helps at all before digging in further. Great Video by the way. One of the most informative and complete videos I have seen on here. Keep up the good work.
It just happens yesterday fan didn't want to work but then i start moving all the numbers and start working but now they all work except for the speed #9 .u think can be the same problem? ?
I just inheirited an 03 Rendezvous and I have three problems. My temp control for the heater does not work. Will that be fixed with the procedure you just showed? Also the temp gauge in the dash appears to be working normally and then shoots up to hot and the overheat idiot light comes on and then goes back down nearly as fast as it went up. Third is the gas gauge doesn't work. Any feedback you can give me would be appreciated as you seem to know your way around these vehicles. Thank you for your time.
I have encountered these issues before, so ill answer as best as I can 1.The procedure in the video *should* fix the issue, but sometimes it can be other things, like electrical issues or other things. But it is a very common issue, so most likely this is the issue 2 & 3. The issue with the temp gauge and gas gauge not working are likely related. Unfortunately, the dash cluster on these cars fail VERY easily and very commonly, so you can get it repaired with new motors with a local electrician or buy a new one altogether. This is assuming that the temp sending unit is working correctly, but cluster failures are almost guaranteed on these cars. Hope this helps
Awesome, easiest way! thank you for uploading this but I have a question. I have a Buick Rendezvous CXL 2003 and the heater heats up the drivers side put not the passengers side. The air comes out cold, not warm\hot air at all. why is that? Can you help.
Great vid. My 2003 Rendezvous blower motor stopped working a few days ago (it wouldn't work on any of the number selections) but I left the switch on 3 and the AC engaged so some cool air would come through while driving. Yesterday... out if the blue ... the blower motor kicked back Inc and worked all day. But today... nothing. So .... I'm not sure if it is the resistor , the blower motor, or this problem. Of course , being a 2003 high mileage Rendezvous, it's plagued with many problems (AWD disabled, rear window issues , transmission slipping etc). Yay GM! Haha.
I am not having an issue with the climate controls yet but I am thinking my radio may be draining the battery. I will be installing an aftermarket radio and was wondering how you wired yours up? I want the radio to turn off when I turn the key off. And for it to come on with the key. I don't like the BCM controlling the power on the radio. I don't like how it keeps it on when key is off until you open the door. Also was wondering if the aftermarket radio will affect anything else?
hmmm..we have a few questions here. I'll answer numerically. 1. i have a video on installing aftermarket decks for the rendezvous. check it out on my video list. 2. you can have the stereo wire up so that it shuts off when the car is turned off, but you have to source out to a system that shuts off when the ignition turns off and splice into that. you'll want to be sure that you're not affecting that system when you wire in, and you'll want to install a fuse to protect all systems. i did this once for a 07 trailblazer and it is still working today. but takes time and patience. 3. removing the factory radio will also remove the chime system. keep this in mind, as gm wires all factory chimes through the stereo. if you have any other questions, please let me know. thanks for watching
The light bulb in behind the temperature control has burned out in my '04 Rendezvous. Is it possible to change or replace that bulb without replacing the module?
Technically yes, it can be changed. But it is not a traditional bulb, but a small LED. In order to replace it, you have to remove the heater controls, open it up, remove the blown LED, and solder in a new one. Not an easy task, but it can be done for sure.
@@NexusAuto would it be possible to show a video of doing that or how to do that for say a 2006 rendezvous? Half my lights don't work for the control unit and are wearing thin for the labels.
amazingly helpful video... easy to watch. Question for my '03 Rendezvous, how do you know if it is the resistor or the fan control before I start taking stuff apart. Thank s agian !
hey no problem. glad the video helped and great feedback! its almost always the heater controls themselves...the resistors are not *as* problematic as the controls themselves. a good starting point to check is to take off the plastic dash cover and take off the heater controls...inspect for damage/wear/heat marks or scorching on the contacts. thats an early indicator. from there, just check the electrical system with a voltmeter, starting at the heater controls and working backwards towards the resistor. hope this helps
Maybe you can help me troubleshoot something. I own a 1996 Buick Rendezvous cxl, model. Two weeks ago I noticed as I was driving the A/C just stop running. As I was driving further it turn on and off again. It did this for a whole week. This suv has the digital climate display unit, it still reads digitally, the functions appear to be working, however the unit itself does not run. There is no cooling. The fan does not blow. I saw your Utube video which was very informative, I have also see other helpful hits as to what to inspect, such as the fuses and battery, maybe you can help me narrow down what I should concentrate on first. Thank you. I hope to hear from you soon. FrankNexusTMPG
I have an '03 Rendezvous and I just took the cabin air filters out to clean, they're super dirty. Anyway, ours doesn't have the chrome trim around the control knobs as these do, they're just black plastic. Do you know of any sources for those knobs? Also, we just recently bought this Buick, it was a repo car, and under the hood is a sticker that reads "This is an all wheel drive vehicle" but it isn't, It's front wheel drive. Do you know if something seems amiss or do they all have that sticker? Thank you
Unfortunately, I don't have a direct source for them. My original heater had the chrome trim, which was nice, but lost it with the replacement unit. If you are lucky, you can maybe find one at a junk yard or online. As for the all wheel drive sticker, that is definitely odd. I know a few people who had rendezvous' and if they were not all wheel drive, they didn't have an all wheel drive sticker(not that I can recall, anyways). At the same time, it would be pretty pricey to convert the car from all wheel to front wheel, so I don't necessarily see that as likely either. But definitely weird. Thanks for watching, and sorry for the delayed response!
I have a 2003 and I want to replace the radio with a aftermarket radio but I heard with it having a theftlock radio I had to have a dealer change it. Any ideas ? Cause I seen you had one.
Hey hope u can help. My ac controls on 2000 galant dont light up anymore, it blows air just not cold. Checked relay and fuse checked for power at compressor. Everything checks out. Got a used control panel, same thing, no light on buttons. Any ideas what else to check for?
Something like that is too hard to diagnose from here, unfortunately. Sounds like an electrical problem of some sort. Sounds like all components are ok (relay, ruse, switch/controls, etc) but something else electrically is still going on. For the sake of it, did you try changing the fuse and/or relay anyways? I have seem times where electrical components check out and look ok, but they were still faulty, and replacing them actually worked. I would give that a shot if you haven't already. If that checks out, if I were working on the car, I would start tracing back with a voltmeter to see if I can find where the power is lost. I did some research on this model to see if I can find anything and I noticed someone has an issue with a ground wire at the switch. Would be worth checking out, if you haven't already www.2carpros.com/questions/mitsubishi-galant-2000-mitsubishi-galant-air-conditioner-not-cooling-air Aside from that, my guess is there is a either a damaged connector or wire somewhere, and that needs to be sourced and found. Hope this helps a little bit...sorry I could not help further.
@@NexusAuto thx for answering. Yes i also switched the relay and fuse, still not working. This all happened when i had a guy replace my transmission. Before that my ac was working great. Im trying to look everywhere for a loose or cut wire where he might have been working in that area. Thx 👍
@@marioriojas5264 no problem at all...Hopefully you find the issue. From what I have seen and read, the wire in that link I sent is close to the transmission, so that may not be a coincidence. I have a 04 rendezvous the heat isn't working all it will do is blow cool air. I have blown out heater core, changed thermostat, and changed the heater control . Still no heat . Any idea what else could be the problem?
My 2003 Rendezvous interior fuse box needs removed so I can reconnect the radio wire that came loose when replacing a fuse. Another video said both seats and center console must come out...any better way? Thanks!
Unfortunately, the video you saw seems to be correct. You need to remove the center console to get to the fuse box, and you need to remove the seats to get to the center console. The BCM sits on top of the fuse box, so you cant even fiddle with it and try to squeeze it out. You need to take the console out to disconnect the BCM, so you can disconnect the fuse box.
@@NexusAuto my aim then is to run a jump wire to the radio...tapping off the adjacent fuse for power. So your video showing how to get to the radio to rewire it will help...thanks.
@@indydave1955 Ah ok, then you may not even need to take out the console and fuse box, if the goal is just to jump the wire. It will be a bit tight, but doable. That would be much better than removing the console and seat. A T=Tap wire connector may help here too. Hope you can get it done.
@@NexusAuto right...that idea was so I wouldn't have to get behind the fuse box. Do you happen to know the color of the power wire going into the radio...red? (Thanks in advance)
@@NexusAuto So this afternoon I took on the task of removing the panels so I could get to the radio. That was a bit of a job but the real problem was trying to figure out which was the power in wire. I connected a hot wire to the battery and then started trying to apply voltage to the wires that looked likely to be the power in. I almost screwed up by putting power to the ground wire and it started to cook my wire but I finally figured out that the power was the larger orange wire going in. I tapped onto that and ran that wire back to the fuse box to access a fuse that is on when the key is on. And it works now!
I have an issue with the Disable AWD staying lit up on the dash display. 2) also the heater does not blow warm air while the car is idling. ) and the temp gauge occasionally goes all the way to Hot , but the car is not overheating. Do you have any advice on any of these 3 issues?
How's it going? I'll see if I can help with these questions a bit. 1. Unfortunately, the disable and light showing up on these cars is VERY common, and there is a host of problems that can cause it, from minor things like a broken electrical wire, to the AWD differential control valve, to the rear differential needing flushing, and it is impossible to say what it is from here. But if I were to start somewhere, check at the wheel bearings...there is some wires coming out of it that will have a cover. Cut open the cover carefully and check the wires...it is extremely common for those wires to corrode and break...so common, I've probably fixed a dozen of them, working on a dozen rendezvous lol. And it is the passenger side that is the most common. Can't say for sure that is the issue, but considering how common, I would start there. 2. Does the heater blow warm air when the car is driven? 3. When the temp goes all the way hot, is it when the car is idling, or even when driven?
Nexus Auto Thanks for your help in the AWD light. I will check it out. Yes, the heater does blow warm air when the car is driven The coolant temp has only pegged to the Hot 2 times, once when I had to slam on the brakes and the other time was just driving down the road on a normal day
@@ericmairs8368 ok, so first, with the overheating. As long as the car itself is definitely not overheating, there is a chance that it is an electrical issue, or more likely, the motor for gauge is malfunctioning. Another common issues with Rendezvous. Luckily, it seems to be very rare, so keep an eye on it. I have never replaced them myself, I send them off to a specialist. But there has been a few that needed rebuilding, so it does happen. If that is the case. If it becomes more persistent, maybe have the motor replaced. For the heat issue, if it gets warm air when in motion, but none when idling, then it *should* indicate that the blower motor and interior controls are ok. Sounds like there is either a issue with the car heating up when idling or with the flow of coolant. Off the top of my head, it could be a few things. The first thing I would do is check your coolant levels. Check both the rad and overflow tank with the car cool. you may want to consider flushing the heater core and cooling system, as Dexcool build up can cause so many issues with coolant flow. I would also check the drive belt. If it is loose, it can cause the water pump to not spin fully, and cause the car to have all sorts of heating issues. Check the elasticity of the belt with the car off, then start up the car and visually inspect to see if it is jumping all around or vibrating. If all good so far, turn the car off and check the water pump pulley (which is tricky to get to) and see if it is loose. All good? Next up, I would consider that the thermostat needs replacing or you need a new water pump. Of course, there is potential other issues, but these are the most commom, and it is where I would start. Aside from that, the car would need some further diagnosis to be sure. Hopefully that helps a bit in getting you started.
it is a bit of a pain, as the motor is not very easy to get to. you can see it fairly easily from the passenger side, once the lower plastic cover is removed, but its difficult to remove. I'll see if I can put together a video soon
Hi, I have an 04 rendezvous that when we run the heat you can hear it running but can barely feel it coming out. When using ac the airflow comes out perfectly. But as soon as you switch to heat the airflow is terrible no matter the setting. The number 3 on the dial doesn't work (for ac and heat) so we'll be following this video to fix that issue. But as for the heat airflow problem, do you have any suggestions?
Hi. Before I answer, I want to clarify. When you say you can barely feel it coming out, is more like 1. The air is blowing at full power, but it is just cool air, or 2. When switched to heater, barely any air at all comes out. The 2 above scenarios will have different reasons for failure. Thanks for watching too!
The knob on my 2004 heater was acting just as u described...the numbers were not working correctly. now, it doesn't turn on at all. how can I tell if it's the controls, a fuse, or the blower motor? after it warms up, I can feel warm air coming out of the vents and defroster...but no forced air.
the best way is to take off the dash and check the heater controls, as seen in the video. it's a low cost check, and takes about 1/2 hr to an hour to check. this is a more common failure, and checking is something most can do (with patience though, it can seem daunting at first). if the controls look good, then it may be the motor. also, always check fuses first, that's a good bet. if you are handy with a voltmeter, you can also check the power at the blower motor and see if it is functioning. if you have any other questions, please let me know, and sorry for the late reply
hey man thanks for the video, now 1 more ? how you changed the stereo?? what conector did you use please tell me ,i want to put a dvd player to my 2002 rendezvous...
My son has a 2005 CXL with the digial screen between the temp control dials. The dials area wacked and change the temp setting randomly no matter how they are turned. What do we have to change out/replace?
hello. take a look at the harness at the back of the heater controls. look for any burned out pins. if you see any, replace the harness. if not, it is likely the heater controls...but there could be other issues too. but these 2 above issues are the most common reason. try those first
My dashboard lights are dead. When I start the vehicle, the lights are on, but when I drive. It turns off. Troublesome driving at night. Any help on this problem?
i have a buick rendezvous 02 and when they changed my heater coil my ac and heater went off like no type of light ot anything is there anything i have to do? or do i have to take it to someone to fix it? plz help
I'm having problems with my security. Whenever I open my locked door with my key the alarm goes off, I think I read somewhere that the codes don't match or something like that. And how do I change my radio? Am I gonna have a problem with security as well??
I have an 04 rendezvous the heater went out along with the parking aid does the heater control have any thing to do with the parking aid or would it more likely be loss of bcm
Dont quote me on this, but as far as I know, they are completely unrelated circuits, so that may be a BCM issue. At the same time, it could be 2 things that just happened to have failed at the same time. I have seen stranger things. But aside from that possibility, sounds like a computer issue for sure.
Hey man, very informative video! I was hoping you could also help me out with a different issue I am having with my Rendezvous. Its an 07 CX model. The passenger side heat works, but the driver side doesnt. Someone told me a door in the system on the driver side may be stuck or bad. How can i diagnosis this myself? Thank you!
Thanks! For your issue, I would first double check the controls, as seen in this video. It is often overlooked, but a VERY common problem with Rendezvous. Just make sure the pins on the back aren't melted or burned out, and you should be ok overall. The blend doors could be the issue, but more often than not, it would be the Blend Door Actuators. They have some cheap bits that wear or break easily, causing the blend doors to not work. There is one on the driver side, and one on the passenger side, and you have to access them from removal the plastic trim panel on the driver side, down where your feet are. It is hard to describe, so I found a website that has it listed. So to recap, 1. Check the heater controls for damage on the back 2. Check Blend Door Actuators 3. Check Blend Doors themselves (the actuators are attached to the blend door housing) Here is the link www.justanswer.com/buick/380pl-buick-rendevous-cxl-dual-heating-unit.html Hope this helps. And thanks again for watching
Man what a great video!!! Your delivery and 'videoing' is top notch!!! THANK YOU!!! I'm gonna throw over a few bucks cause u deserve it! Question... it's regarding "heat". In my 2006 Buick Rendezvous CXL 3.5L V6 AWD, I've got ice cold air blowing out of drivers side upper and floor vents. I've got warm air blowing out passenger side upper and floor vents and front defrost. Any ideas why this would be?
No problem at all! Glad the video was helpful, and thanks for the awesome feedback too! For your question, there is a couple of causes. Ultimately, it sounds like the dual climate controls are stuck, but could be other things. When are you noticing this? As in 1. When you put on the heat, does the driver side and floor vents still blow cold air, or no air at all? 2. When you put on AC, does passenger side and front defrost blow hot air, or no air?
the rendezvous does have a blend door actuator. If I remember correctly, it is behind the glove box. You would have to remove the glove box to get it. I am not 100% on that (it has been a while since I worked on this vehicle), but I am fairly certain that is where it is.
hey. if the heater control speed works, and the car is warming up normally and running at normal operating temperatures, it sounds like you have a clogged or malfunctioning heater core. it is hard to say without being there, but that's what would be my guess.
ok, from the otehr video`s i have seen, you inform more then anyone else. pretty damn good. Now my question, Have you done a video over changing out the Solenoids in the transmission. See that is my next project to do, Yes there are other video`s out there, but not really any good one`s. none of them point out what you really need, they all go over how to do it, but what is really need to do it, that is where they lack. thank you. Hope you reply, cause i think that will be my project for this weekend or even next.
Thank you so very much. As a 63 year old female, I am proud to say because of your help I was able to fix it myself.
Virginia Ramirez thank you for the great comment. this is exactly why I make these videos. I'm very glad that it helped. thank you for watching
Dude the absolute best video I have watched on any vehicle repair.
Hey Lynn. This is awesome news. I am happy to hear the video helped out and it worked out so well. Thanks for watching!
With this video my wife changed the whole thing in 45 minutes, from the initial pull to reinstall. Works great. Woonderful video by a talented guy.
jpete8 thanks a lot. That's a great comment and its exactly why I make these videos. Thanks for watching and glad it helped!
I just replacement my Resistor, and my heats still not working. Is it a possibility that my controls do need to be replaced?
Can't say, but if the fan works it sounds like a problem with the engine heat. Perhaps a bad thermostat, low coolant level, bad heater or the like.
jpete8 I can feel the heat , its just not blowing out.
Great video! You definitely have a way of putting people at ease when doing something new.
Awesome, thank you for that great feedback. I so appreciate it. Hopefully, the video has helped you out.
awesome video bro. straight to the point with no bs.
thanks!! appreciate the comment. keeping it straightforward and bs free is the best...I don't like watching a vid that has too much other crap happening in it either. hope the video helped. thanks for watching!
I like that you bought all of the facing again. Looks like you replaced everything and spliced those wires in just right. Our cable was melty but not completely messed up so I didnt have to splice but it was the SAME pin. Fricking GM
I fixed it by myself!!! You saved me so much money!!! Thank you!!!
@@GracieGoode you're welcome. Great to hear that the video helped out

you have shown me what my problem is except i have the control for both drivers and passingers .....sides...... now i have to find a good control box for mine ....thanks so much .......
Its getting really hard to find these days. I had to get the replacement in a junkyard. These days I don't even see them there anymore. Seems to be ebay or Craigslists, and even then as these cars get older, it is becoming rarer.

Thanks bro i was able to complete the same job because of the same issue ur video had all the info needed to get my mothers fan speed working again
Awesome news...glad to hear the video helped out! Your mom is good to go! Thanks for watching.
Bro thanks for the video I changed the resister and nothing I was stumped. Now I'll try this in the morning
No problem. Hopefully it all works out! Good luck, and thanks for watching.
Thank you so much! I've been looking for this kind of video for almost 8 months! Cant wait to.get to working on mine! Appreciate it SO!! 🤗🙃😁
No problem at all. Glad you came across the video. I hope you get everything working soon. Let me know how it goes!
Good stuff. I got a 03 Rendezvous for my daughter and the A/C would not come on period. Came across your video, checked the climate control and sure enough...fan control was burned out. My question is, what would cause it to burn out? I'm in the process of replacing the climate controls and wondered how could I stop it from burning out again.
Nice video ! I will give this a try on my '04 Rendezvous CX, fan is ok but control knob seems to do nothing. Thanks!
Sounds good. Hope it all works out. Glad the video was helpful
great video, very helpfull.......my controls work fine, but the indicators do not light up... can i replace the bulbs inside the control?
You can, but you have to be skilled at soldering in LED bulbs. It's not standard bulbs inside, if I recall. You have to open the unit, remove the old LED bulbs, and solder in new ones. I'm not sure of another way to get it done
EXCELLENT video! This is exactly what is wrong with mine, and your explanation was perfect! Thank you for this!
Awesome! Glad to hear the video helped out! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

They still want it back to this day
Thank you so much for the help this stuff drives me nuts.the exact thing is wrong with my switch.
No problem. Glad the video helped out. Thanks for watching!
Ideas??
Thx for all the info. Any info about heater door sensor.
Unfortunately, I have no more info on the platform. I no longer have access to the vehicle. Sorry about that.
do you know where i can get a good used one for my 02 with the climate control for drivers and passinger side....thanks.....mike burton
Thanks
Thanks dude. This was well done and helped me solve my issue.
But the actuator does fail often, so start by testing that
I am planning to replace or fix the heater core in my Buick Rendezvous 2004. Any idea how can i reach the heater core? Thank you.
Hello,whats the part you just replaced called,with the knobs,2002 rendevous,heats up,and sometimes shakes,what should i check for
This is awesome....I have the 2002 Rendezvous CL w digital control module. the control knobs and buttons light up but the LCD is dead and ac/heat will not come on at all. checked all fuses, etc..all ok. there are no obvious signs on the control module itself of anything burnt out. how do I test the module in this case? no power to it at all except the button "dash" lights.
Paul
Your video was EXCELLENT !
I have a 2003 Buick rendezvous cx and my blower motor works but it don't get hot the air what's my problem what should I do
@Efwin-o8b that could be a few problems, and would need to be diagnosed.
Hi Jeff...thanks for the great comment. Appreciate that and you watching! hope the video helped. Stayed tuned for more vids coming soon
Great job with the video, super helpful!
No problem. Thanks for watching. Glad it helped.
Fixed the step motors on the instrument cluster for a 2004 Rendevous for the gauges but now the gear indicator is not lighting up. It was working before we pulled it out. Any suggestions? We tried to make sure there was no broken solder around it.
Great video! It helped out here in Los Angeles. Any tips on the reverse bumper sensor fuse location? Thank you again.
Do you have a part number for the wire harness plug?
Jessica Louden yes that’s what I’m looking for as well
@@Lastchance1960 Thanks! Appreciate it. I hope everything works out. Let me know how it goes and if you figure out the issue.
It just happens yesterday fan didn't want to work but then i start moving all the numbers and start working but now they all work except for the speed #9 .u think can be the same problem? ?
Your a great teacher
Awesome, thank you for commenting. I appreciate it. Glad the video helped.
Hi man I have an 03 rendezvous and wanted see if you could tell me what wiring harness you used for the stereo?
I just inheirited an 03 Rendezvous and I have three problems. My temp control for the heater does not work. Will that be fixed with the procedure you just showed? Also the temp gauge in the dash appears to be working normally and then shoots up to hot and the overheat idiot light comes on and then goes back down nearly as fast as it went up. Third is the gas gauge doesn't work. Any feedback you can give me would be appreciated as you seem to know your way around these vehicles. Thank you for your time.
I have encountered these issues before, so ill answer as best as I can
1.The procedure in the video *should* fix the issue, but sometimes it can be other things, like electrical issues or other things. But it is a very common issue, so most likely this is the issue
Yay GM! Haha.
anthony gravley hey did you ever find out what the problem was?? I’m having the same issue now
I am not having an issue with the climate controls yet but I am thinking my radio may be draining the battery.
3. removing the factory radio will also remove the chime system. keep this in mind, as gm wires all factory chimes through the stereo. if you have any other questions, please let me know. thanks for watching
thanks, guy, I had tried and I replaced the air conditioning control in my 2006 Buick rendezvous
No problem. Glad the video helped.
@@tannimdragon unfortunately I couldn't. Only because I no longer have access to this vehicle
I am wondering if you can show me how to change the heater core in my 2002 buick rendzvous
Great video man.
Thanks, much appreciated.
This guus just fixed my problem.. Literally!
amazingly helpful video... easy to watch.

Great video, thanks so much!
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Good one. Please how do i locate the position of knock sensor in Buick Rendevours 2004
if i remember correctly, i think its on the front of the block, just above the oil filter. but that's just off memory. check around there
I have a 2003 and I want to replace the radio with a aftermarket radio but I heard with it having a theftlock radio I had to have a dealer change it.
Would be worth checking out, if you haven't already
www.2carpros.com/questions/mitsubishi-galant-2000-mitsubishi-galant-air-conditioner-not-cooling-air
Aside from that, my guess is there is a either a damaged connector or wire somewhere, and that needs to be sourced and found.
Check for broken or cracked wires and check the connectors as well...unplug them and check them thoroughly. It just takes one damaged pin inside a connector to cause something to not function. Good luck...these are tough sometimes!
@@NexusAuto thank you for taking the time to help me out. Ill look at all the wires and connections you told me about. Ill update you as soon as i find a solution. 👍
Hi great video btw. I am ordering my replacement unit on eBay. I found the correct one. Do you know the name of the connection plug you removed from the junkyard that you mentioned in video. Is it recommended to buy it through dealer or maybe AutoZone if there is no junkyard available? Thank you!!!
Ghost of 702 Squad Recon thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply. it is called a Heater Control Switch Connector. you should be able to get it at any parts store or the dealer, but be warned it can be pricey ..in the range of about $130-ish and up
I have a 04 rendezvous the heat isn't working all it will do is blow cool air.
Great vid! Thanks for the help!
No problem...glad the video helped out! Thanks for watching
Nexus Auto
Thanks for your help in the AWD light. I will check it out.
Yes, the heater does blow warm air when the car is driven
The coolant temp has only pegged to the Hot 2 times, once when I had to slam on the brakes and the other time was just driving down the road on a normal day
@@ericmairs8368 ok, so first, with the overheating.
I have a 2003 Buick Rendezvous CX is a pain to change out the ac/heat blower motor?this one sounds like the bearings ar bad? thanks for your help.
it is a bit of a pain, as the motor is not very easy to get to. you can see it fairly easily from the passenger side, once the lower plastic cover is removed, but its difficult to remove. I'll see if I can put together a video soon
Hey, I have a rendezvous 2002 cxl. The climate control has some burnt bulbs how do you replace them.
Very helpful video
Great news, glad to hear it helped.
Do you know why my 2002 Buick rendezvous isn't starting? I think it's the fuel pump but I'm not sure. It try's to start, but doesn't make it.
When you say you can barely feel it coming out, is more like
1. The air is blowing at full power, but it is just cool air, or
Thank you for this.
No problem at all
hey man thanks for the video, now 1 more ? how you changed the stereo?? what conector did you use please tell me ,i want to put a dvd player to my 2002 rendezvous...
So to recap,
1. Check the heater controls for damage on the back
2. Check Blend Door Actuators
3. Check Blend Doors themselves (the actuators are attached to the blend door housing)

As in
1. When you put on the heat, does the driver side and floor vents still blow cold air, or no air at all?
2. When you put on AC, does passenger side and front defrost blow hot air, or no air?
Good video. Well presented.
thanks, hope it helps and thanks for watching
can u put a heater control from a buick rendezvous ultra on a cx
i need help i just purchased a 2004 buick rendezvous for our son the P30 Sensor is coming up
What p30 code do you have? Should be a letter and 4 numbers.
So problem was relay Ing #3 was bad Number 23 -located front of center console. Blower working great now.
That's awesome news! Much easier fix than fixing the heater controls or the blower motor.
does 2004 rendezvous have a blend door actuator and were is it
the rendezvous does have a blend door actuator. If I remember correctly, it is behind the glove box. You would have to remove the glove box to get it. I am not 100% on that (it has been a while since I worked on this vehicle), but I am fairly certain that is where it is.
Hey I have a 2005 and my cigarette lighter fuse went out. but I can't find where to put the new one can you help?
Hey did that make a burning wire smell and smoke ?
It did not for me, but it has for others. There can be other things that cause that though. Definitely check it out.
I have a 2003 CXL and the heater is blowing mildly warm air? Thoughts?
hey. if the heater control speed works, and the car is warming up normally and running at normal operating temperatures, it sounds like you have a clogged or malfunctioning heater core. it is hard to say without being there, but that's what would be my guess.
ok, from the otehr video`s i have seen, you inform more then anyone else. pretty damn good.
