One main difference you will find that people don't really mention is unwanted pickup noise. The stock Jackson PU's can be really noisy (harmonic feedback and picking hand rubbing the strings). Duncans are dipped in wax which reduces much of that unwanted noise.
@@slash7741 Yeah Distortion sounds little more clearer, but don't know if you use 50's wiring then you get little more clearer sound maybe out of those Jackson pickups too.
Surprised how close these are. Pick up height might play into it reading comments about Jackson palm muting and chugging noise but w a little tweaking the Jacksons sound like a keeper and take that pickup swapout money off the table kept on the guitar. Tight demo appreciate 👍
The more I hear these comparisons, the more I like the stock Jackson pickups. I just got a JS32 DKA a couple weeks ago. I’m having a lot of issues trying to get anywhere near these great tones everyone else is getting. I was considering a pickup swap but now I’m not so sure that’s what I need. The Jackson pickups win this comparison IMO. So if I may ask, you’re getting all of this tone just by going into Reaper? I have Reaper but I don’t have much in the way of good plugins. Although I had a Neural DSP Archetype Petrucci plugin that I liked but I’m not in a place where I can afford $150 for one piece of software. Anyway, you got these great tones with stock Jackson pickups and a few VST plugins in Reaper? What interface are you using? I just have a cheap, generic thing. Maybe I need to upgrade? Do you take the output of Reaper into an amp or is it just your PC audio?
It kind of sounds like the SDs have been installed closer to the strings than the Jackson PUPs. In this comparison, the SDs pick up a ton of pick/fret/hand noise in between notes, and some parts sounded a bit out of phase compared to the Jackson PUPs.
There was a time in the 90's that their Pickups were shit. But before that, and after, i agree. Great Pickups. And even the Jackson pickups used in the cheap Js Series guitars, are really good! Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘🇵🇹
@@portuguesebeer5069 yes The few I tried in the late '90s were absolute trash. Playing field on gear has leveled off a lot lot more bang for your buck !!
Ok so the difference is there, but is it a $85 difference...personally I dont think so....this is the 3rd or 4th video with Jackson pups vs a SD JB, Dimarzio super distortion and a Dimarzio Tonezone and the only one to me that made a very noticable difference was the Dimarzio Super distortions. Besides I am hearing that Jackson's stock pups are built after a SD JB.... after all, Seymour duncan JB pickups were jackson/charvel proprietary bridge pop choice back in the early days before they started winding their own.
Thank you bro! It's been a while so I don't exactly remember the settings, but the plugin chain was TSE 808 -> LePou LeGion, no other FX added since I wanted it to sound as natural as possible =)

@@alper7653 oh yes, I forgot about the cab! I did use LeCab from LePou as well as JJ Powertube IRs, but I think pretty much any good IR works. LePou are the best free plugins you can get imo, I think the tone you get from them can compete with other expensive amp sims out there. Pickup replacement can give you a more desirable tone depending on what you're after, but amp and effects matter more, as long as the pickup is good.
@@xschatten9893 yeah they are wonderful plugins. for the legion though, would you recommend using the ryhtm channel but turning the gain up or using the lead channel with less gain?
@@alper7653 I usually used the lead channel as I felt like it had more bite to it, but rhythm channel with a boost should work as well. It really depends on the mix and the sound you're after, nowadays I prefer lower gain + boost
The stock pickup is better (you play perfect, pickup brand/model is not important for you, I hope you get a nice sound also stock pickups of cheap guitars)
I didn't hear a whole lot of difference I listened through just a Bluetooth speaker and the Jackson sounded a little bit more bity if anything if that makes any sense they both sounded killer to me
Honestly the Jackson's don't sound bad. They don't really handle low tunings like the sh6 do though. I have an ibanez with the sh6 and a mostly stock jackson both setup for c standard. The jackson is a bit muddy in c but still sounds good.
I'm listening with KRK (KNS-8400) headphones, and Jackson sounds a little cleaner and more accurate. Without good headphones or quality speakers, you won't hear much of a difference.
200 $ + for almost the same sound, is not worth it, try to switch your magnet, if you godfor a 8 0r 6 alnico magnet in the standard jackson pickup you vil get the same sound af the seymour duncan pickup, but for 6 $ insted, of course you have to do some work, but it's not that hard
Not really, jacksons have slightly larger bottom end, duncan distortion more mid and upper mids. Yes it is subtle, these are both high output pickups and the difference shouldn't be THAT big but it is there.

Nothing wrong with stock Jackson pickups bc rich has nice stock pickups as well as ltd

i have js 22 with stock in neck but sh6b high output distortion in bridge i love it
