      I have been following UFC since 2006, I used to work at a dvd store and order new UFC fight dvd's in as they weren't available on the internet back then. To have a champion like volka is so inspiring to us. During lock down he won the fight against Ortega and dedicated it to Australian people who were still in lock down. Volkanovski trains constantly and evolves, Max sits and plays games and trains only when he has a match and he has also thrown out sparring. As Khabib said, you have to train all the time and not only when you have a scheduled match.

    • @KratosMayhem
      @KratosMayhem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont think its fair to assume that Max only trains when he has an upcoming fight. Most fighters train twice per day for two hours 6 days a week during an actual fight camp. It's only natural they wouldnt train to that extent when out of camp. We only see a fraction of these fighters day when they post on social media. Max can very well be training as much or more than volk out of camp. Max not sparring anymore is well documented but I dont believe that's to his detriment. What's well documented is that Max doesnt follow the sport so besides his own game MMA doesnt take up as much mental space for him, where as Volk seems to stay updated with his own division at the least. Not sure if thats to Max detriment or a positive for Volk but its what objectively true.

    You asked questions and talked yourself out of the answer. Volk was faster, more precise with his strikes and certainly has good foot work. He could not get in and out without good footwork. He beats everyone to the punch. Therefore, despite not being twice as fast as his opponents, he is faster than they are. This is his advantage achieved through practicing the skill of striking.
    Volk is a clever fighter. Volk has excellent fitness and is still hungry for success. He has a chip on his shoulder because he has not received the accolades, he has deserved for his achievements so far.
    Next step for Volk is to become the double champ (FW/LW). He can do it. The title fight for LW should be his next fight in December 2022 vs Charlie.

    I'd have to say it's because, while Volkanovski may not be the absolute best at anything, he's really good at everything: Very strong, very fast, very good management of distance. Also, while Volk is the older man, you could argue that he's the "younger fighter" since Holloway has so much more mileage on him.

  • @seanwallace89

    Volk understands the sweet science... he understands rhythm and timing. He knows that every fighter has a stance, and there is a movement they will do repeatedly while at distance in the cage that creates their rhythm... they will strike or close distance on beat to their rhythm. Volk identifies that rhythm and then strikes you just before you get to your own strike point in your rhythm. A great comparison is if you've ever golfed... imagine you are under a tree, it's fairly comfortable but just at about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through your backswing there are branches you make contact with... you can try to make that swing ten times in a row, but its going to disrupt your swing and rhythm 10/10 times, and it's basically the same w Volk. If you can never get through step 1 properly, it makes step 2 pretty hard, as well lol.

He throws a strike or combo and when other fighters would rest , reset, or admire their work he quickly throws another strike or combo at the strangest time so the other fighter can't set or get ready for it. I've seen him do it a bunch of times and it's brilliant! The only other fighter I've seen who had crazy timing like that was Conor when he was at his absolute peak.

His most successful fighters are fighters who are great grapplers like chandler,durinho and usman( who is not with him anymore and who striking got better after he left). Volkanovski is just good at feinting. And understands postioning more than most. He hides his steps with his feints. These is alot of things he does but most of all he is just a good fighter.
