I'm so glad you have her back! I was so sad for you and for her when you let her go. She obviously loves you and is very bonded to you. I think, even if she and Toto were compatible, her life wouldn't have been complete w/out you.
Delphi loves you! Try just keeping them in different rooms when you get them out. Or they and somehow get Sami, Zola to bond with Delphi. Delphi has bonded with you. She obviously want you.
Anyone thinking of taking a member of the parrot family into their home should be aware that these animals need a lot of patience and understanding and that anything less is a recipe for trouble. It's nice to see an owner like Julia, who has plenty of both.
We had cockatiels when we were kids, and looking back, it was probably neglect the way we treated them. We didn't know any better! Eventually we gave them to another family. But now, as adults, we're thinking about getting one, and hopefully doing it right this time.
@@SocktheWorm Good luck with that. There are lots of helpful videos about looking after birds. Here's a link to one of the channels I like. th-cam.com/video/fUo9SL7gBrg/w-d-xo.html
I absolutely love your videos!! And I've fallen in love with all the birds! They are so cuteee! The same thing happened with my two conures (Rio and Ruby) like Sami and Zola. When they saw each other they immediately started preening.
Hi Julia from a young at heart nearly 60yr old Girl! (in my heart lol) from soggy England. I worked as a veterinary nurse for many years and always hated having to deal with half plucked bare (as in naked/nude), bored birds that came in to see the vets and couldn't cope with the thought that these birds were so unhappy. It made me never want to own cage birds.............. untill a friend brought an African Grey Parrot that they had found in a lorry at work and came to me as they knew I worked with animals. It changed my life (and my poor house which became a huge chew toy lol). I have now been a bird Mum for 17yrs and own a flock of 4 birds as well as rehoming 2 birds along the way for exactly the same reason as you now have i.e trying to get life buddies for my babies or having to part with some for them to be with their chosen mate as long as the owner met my same views for their birds care, which means the birds come first, second, and third. So that's way I am reaching out to you. My first bird Echo the African Grey Parrot (who's original owners could never be traced or found after long efforts), has become my feathered daughter and has never had or found any other bird that she will tolerate. Another little Moustache Parakeet called Zoe whom I adopted as company for her, was not accepted so I then adopted 2 adorable Kakarikis to buddy up with either Echo or Zoe and are happily settled with Zoe but it meant changing the whole living arrangements for me and them to accommodate them all. I have taken advice on all parts of trying to find buddies for them which is why I have ended up with different types of bird rather then same bird types but which didn't work either. The best thing I can advice of is that it is more important for Delphi to keep you in her life then any other buddy or mate. She has bonded to you completely and any other bird will be of secondary importance to her. I can't tell you how much I admire and respect you for putting her needs above yours but I have found to my distress that in rescue homes a lot of birds never get over the trauma of losing their human mate even though they have other birds now around them. My animals are totally my children now so I understand and agree with your actions but felt I needed to write this to you as I feel it is the right way to advice you in which direction to hopefully go in. You may or may not find a companion for Delphi but be prepared to become a flock mother as it gets complicated. I hope this helps a little and feel free to contact me about any other issues. I will check back and if you wish to ask me anything I will let you have my email. Best wishes 😃
Hi Caroline, thank you so much for writing me the whole story, I absolutely love hearing everyones likewise experience. It gives me more view on the matter. Over the past few days I have realised that I cannot re-home Delphi, mainly for the reason that I am her human buddy and that I love her too much. I’m now trying to see if I can have Delphi Sami and Zola at least all out of their cages at once in the hopes that Delphi won’t attack (not a succes so far). And there is one last thing I might try in finding her a bird friend but I’m in no hurry to try that. Apart from Echo not liking other birds, all your birds sound amazing. I love the diversity and that the other three get along. Echo is a lucky african grey to have found you to be his human mum. Thank you again for all your words and if I need any more details or advies, I know where to find you, take care 😊
Delphi is obviously bonded to you which is why he/she was attacking Sami since you were giving him attention. Sami didn’t attack Zola because he didn’t have an attachment to you. Birds can be happy with just living with and owner and moving Delphi around and trying to get her to like other birds is just gonna stress her out.
Thats so true Brook great point My Green cheek Sunny never accepted my Pineapple Cher so sad cause he is too heavlely bonded too me yet poor Cher wanted only Sunny and never accepted me My biggest blunder was trying to force a friendship ughhhhhh They both turned on me never try that again for sure :..(....
My heart melts seeing everyone again! Your commentary about Delphi finding her forever friend really hit home! I hope more than anything that she finds a bird who loves her as much as Sami loves Zola 🥺💕💕💕
if he is biting the ring, it is irritating his leg, like too tight, or a rough spot rubbing him...I always take to vet and get rings removed, left unchecked your bird can lose his leg, he will chew and chew on the leg, creating a sore and then may need it amputated...please go to vet and have it checked, better yet, removed
If you hadn't before, it is good to quarantine new birds for 14 days before introducing. In the off chance they have something. Glad nothing bad happened though! I'd also look into getting them flight cages at some point if you are gone for more than an hour or two. Just a tip! They are adorable ^^
Right now they only sleep in their cages at night. They are free to roam in a bird safe room during the day, even when I’m gone. Bigger cages are always better, maybe in the future I will buy a bigger one 😊
I admire so much what you are doing for your birds, I have a feisty crimson bellied Conure female who I love and is very bonded to me, I’ve thought about getting her a friend (more than the my Budgie who she flies around the house with) and when she went on holiday recently to the breeders they noticed that she was not at all interested in the other conures they had and was more aggressive towards them when they were all out. Some animals just like to be the only one, at the same time I fully understand where your coming from. All the best for your future with dephine. Also I wanted to just say it’s so lovely to see the special bond you have with her which shows so much with how she trusts you, so much more than most people get to experience with their birds which is amazing.
That can also be the case, that she’s just a happy only child... thank you for sharing your experience, it makes me think about the situation in a different way. I have a few things left I can try and if those don’t work than I can conclude she really is just happy being alone. And thank you again! I really appreciate it!
