Yay! Kenny is back! Good thing!
Bet the new one with the oil lasts longer👍
Very informative Kenny. That was surprising when you went to drain it and nothing came out. That could defiantly been the reason for failure. That was some bad galling on the shaft. Good job on the show.
That what's happened when you don't service your truck ,t case runs dry from a leak ,and differential, run dry also and when it starts making a noise it is to late to fix
People never service ,t case or diffs untill they make noises then it's to late.
I've had things like that where you take the plug out and nothing comes out.
It's because the dirt or sludge at the bottom seals it and you have to poke something through.
I loved the, “I was recording, right?” 😆
Great job Kenny, watching in Barbados.
I don't mind the time length at all. Gives a real feel for the job.
100%, would love to take a day off and learn something while helping repair my vehicle. I can understand why I could help fix someone else's, but I'd like to be there and just help for a week.
Great video. I really liked the length of the video. Must be hard to edit but the result was worth it.
Good bless you and your family.
Good evening Mr Kenny, great to see you, hope you got all your stuff taken care of and things went well sir. Yeah you were missed lol😂😅
Nice job! I have no plans on replacing a transfer case anytime soon, but I watched in its entirety just to see how it's done and for your helpful tips along the way.
Also, that chirping with the blower motor...that would be a must fix if it was my vehicle. #1 complaint lol
blower motors need oiling on the shafts too
Alway remember to fill it with fluid when done. It lasts longer that way. Nice Job!
3 Rivers should be an OEM shaft.
How come you always get the clean engines or the clean transmissions? Anything I ever worked on was dust and dirt and cow shit
Man you sure know what to say...man it must be nice lol
I’m happy as a pig in poo when I am fixing a dirty car.
Mine is always covered in quick lime, makes me cuss like I do when the wrinch slips and I hit myself in the mouth!! If Kenny didn't charge so much I would let him do it!!
Farmers don't use Escalades for farm trucks 😂
Depends on what crops your bringing in!!
The Yokes’s on you Mr Owner.
A true 🎨 artist, magnificent, better u than me😅❤
Best morning coffee I've had in a long time! Thank you for allowing us to peek over your shoulder! Greetings from Uppsala, Sweden
Thank you for informing us how this is done I really learned a lot God bless you and your family
Loving every minute of it big guy thanks
56:14 "Something you gotta be mindful of"....."what was I gonna say?" 😂 You are the best Kenny. What a great way to start my day. I have learned (and continue to learn) so much from you. It's fun to try to anticipate your next move. I'm getting better at it. BTW, did you buy anything from the Snap-on guy that showed up?
Sometimes that's the life of a mechanic, no yoke. ;-)
You doing good Kenny, if you put some Lucas oil on them nuts they screw in easily, plus you don't have to squeeze the next nut it just sticks to your fingers. I know your a big Lucas fan!!!
Hahahaha
Nice job and a great tutorial Kenny.
Nice camera work, it can’t be easy- I really enjoyed that video.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for watching & keep wrenching
Well done. i have done one on a gmc truck by my self with out a lift, and i would like to see inside the bad one
3 rivers is the Detroit plant..hence why the football stadium was called 3 rivers. thanks to showing me why my u joint replacements weren't sliding smooth. it took me 3 replacements before i figured out how to properly set everything the way you did, i just used a c clamp because the ends fit the caps perfect and the slow and steady pressure let me feel if something was going wrong with the cap and needle bearings compress setting by hand. also did not think the grease type mattered as before they went to the blue moly and lithium, it used to be the regular yellow grease so that was an interesting tib bit side note i didn't put any thought into other than i made sure they were full of any grease they might have lost and bleed of air.
Some places that reman transfer cases, some want 5w30 synthetic engine oil in place of the ATF in theirs.I know of one this way,has a sticker on them saying 5w30 synthetic engine oil in them.Finding out it is better than the ATF taking the heat better
engine oil may take the heat better, but just like all oil...it's the weight and viscosity level that matter, hydro oil/transmission has more cleaners in them. after a vehicle develops a ticking sound, replace one quart of the motor oil with CET transmission oil with the next oil change...it may take 3 oil changes of doing this, but if you see sludge or white gunk coming out and any yellow or gray puke...it means your internals are sticky gumy with all manners of crude that it's cleaning out. you can stop putting a quart of tranny oil in on the next oil change after the ticking noise goes away.
alot of the time it takes 1-3 full cycles to get all the tiny little oil ports opened back up especially on the gm variable cylinder ecomotors...the ports are just too small...bad design....but during the obamacrash dealers said they were going to make up their profit losses on sales via service...and they are killing it on servicing issues ever since
These auto 4WD T cases have a wet clutch inside them. I wouldn’t use motor oil in there.
I have a trans jack, that has foot operated pump and release pedals. Sure makes it easier to manipulate the trans with 2 hands when doing the job.
You doing it yourself reminds me of what a old man told me when I was very young he said you know that you are a man when you drop your balls to your knees and i should know i had three heroines at the same time keep up your hard work making videos and have a blessed day today 🙏
Projects involving transmissions/differentials/transfer cases can sometimes stretch out over days/weeks/etc. That is a great recipe for forgetting simple steps before the end. A good tip I came across is to tape a sign to the steering wheel that says "NO DIFF FLUID" (or whatever) when first drained, and leave it there until refilled at the end of the project. That might prevent an absent-minded person from getting in the car and driving off with no lubricant.
Great idea
I find when replacing Universal's fill the caps with grease if you drop one the rollers stay in place
I just use electric tape to hold it together until I put it back together
I remember on my first car ( 57 Chevy) taking the u- joints apart and reversing them so it thrusts mostly against the opposite unworn sides.
They were getting a bit hammered on the original sides.
@@WillieConner-o1rI knew a real knucklehead used to enjoy using black tape for universal bearings on his 57 Ford.
Very few people check add change transfer case oil.
Weird.
I just fixed three.
Also people flat towing SUV behind RVs for hundreds of miles without disconnecting drive shaft melt tailshaft bushings.
I like that big Bertha Dewalt gun .
Well done.
Welcome back!
Great video.. thanks Kenny
That transmission jack under the transfer will get you hurt. Just waiting for it to fall off. Pick it up and stuff it back in. Sling the back over the crossbar and slide it onto the transmission. PS the front u-joint looks loose as heck.
I sincerely hope you're joking!
Once a guy gets older, they learn to work smarter not harder!
It takes one serious back injury to put one out of commission for awhile or even life.
Kenny, Dewalt's DCF921 3/8" drive impact wrench would be a good replacement for your aging 3/8" drive impact wrench.
Do you think the transfer case you took off was secondhand? I notice what looks like scrapyard numbers in white paint on the rear seal. Where did the fluid go?? I agree with you I think they forgot to put any in as it was bone dry.
Kenny did mark it with white paint marker earlier in the video.
Nice job Kenny👍👍👍👍
Great video Kenny and I was wondering what is that Filling Tool that you used for filling the transfer case? It looks like something I could use at work. Thanks so much for bringing us along on this one.
Good video!
Blower motor a drop of that oil from transfer case on the bushings will shut it up for the rest of the life of the truck. Issue normally is to get to that motor ends to apply the oil. Solved in on the noisy engine fan with a undercoating gum and lots of oil, very low air pressure and a pipe to lead the output under the fan motor shroud, and a bit of mess of oil.
You mentioned that the case had been repaired previously, what could have caused a hole in the middle of the case?
Pump rub,the housing is magnesium and the pump is aluminum poking a hole in it
It's very happy because it knows you are going to fix it and your pockets will be happy to 😂
Likely was filled on the ground at an angle, so got almost no fluid into it. Also probably had a leaking seal, and this got the fluid low, and then heat did the rest.
I hope there was a warranty on the first transfer case.
I've owned two brand new and both leaked out the fluid while going down the road. I'm done with GM 4×4 VEHICLES
How many Ft-LBS torque wrench is that - I'm looking for a 1/2 inch torque wrench to service suspension and rusted exhaust bolts - what is the sweet spot for FT-LBS?
Vent hose??
Kenny, a lot of folks will be very disappointed when you decide to retire. That's my situation. I have two trusted mechanics I've known most of my life. One has already retired and the other will in the next couple years. I'm not looking forward to finding someone new.
Sounds like a truck driving reverse school in your lot.
(Kenny, why do you assume you are teaching someone to do the work you are doing? I’m retired, and I’m not going to do it.) Great work though and good camera work.
Why does the oil filter have oil on it?
Didn't you need to replace the fluid you lost from the transmission?
My guess is this vehicle needs more service, such as front and rear differential drain and fill, possibly spark plugs.. Serpentine drive belt, air filter cabin filter.. engine oil change..
Should put grease on the shaft splines ? And do yourself a big favor and WD40 the ujoint cups?
We could use a turbo upgrade.😢
Send it to the crusher
my awd has hi low and neutral
Transfer case. Low profile tires. Hmmm...
I think if all the tyres are the same should be ok, I think that’s how it works, could be wrong
Rebuilding uu-joint 101❤😂⁉️🤙
There you go saying it again you shoot your eye out remember Ralphie technically did shoot his eye out because they called glasses four eyes back then haha have a blessed day today
Double check the oil filter, I see a drip on it...
Can't believe not a drop of fluid came out the transfer case that is probably complete carnage inside that is one repair I never have to do
Your shop is as quiet as a library
Xtra parts to put on, job security!!!!+++🎯⁉️🤑🛑🔚
I’m sure glad that my Yugo doesn’t have a transfer case.
It's not just you I notice, but my OCD just screams when I see grimy parts removed and not cleaned. I just see that dirty crossbar getting all over me. And that open speed sensor opening! I'm sure a pound and a half of grit would fall in if I didn't at least put a piece of tape over in before installing the transfer box. And I wanted to yell, "Clean that drip of oil off the filter!" Needless to say, I don't work on cars for a living.
Tighten the frigging oil filter.
Do this outside 🤔 with handtools😅❤⁉️😱by yourself 😂!!!!!!@😖🤙
They didn't take it back to the other place cause they wanted it done right they had their turn to do right
re driveshaft, cant get a sleeve ?
Instead of forgot to add fluid they didnt address the leak. If there was no leak it should be full.
Incredible video brother Kenny. I hope I never need to have this done but if I do, I hope it is you or your equivalent doing the job. Hey subscribers, a favor please, as you can see Kenny has 84.2 K subscribers. Let's call our friends and family members and help Kenny get to 100K subscribers. He deserves this!!!!
Don't forget the Smurf fluid (Auto Trak II) that's. supposed to go in a GM transfercase I can't say what we used to call it because of TH-cam
If Kenny was President, he wouldn’t have to take time off from work. He would have his secretary take handle it for him.
Sorry Kenny, I just don't have the patience to watch over an hour long video. Take it as feedback, I'm sure others like the longer videos, just not my thing.
You know, I'll always thought that people should just watch in stages. However, I've come to the conclusion that breaking it up one just has to wait for the conclusion that much longer.
Many creators I play their videos at 1.5+ playback speed. Does cut back on viewing time. Don't know if TH-cam gives literal hours watched or video actual length.
My 25¢! LoL 😂😆
U joint. Bolt specs 8000 fps❤⁉️🛑🔚
Did Kenny have a brain farm. Lol
Why does it sound like you've got your head in a bucket?
Put never seize on anything that is metal to metal!!!!!!!!!! Just my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!
Gee, they take fluid?
There is no reason to get hurt in a shop with a lift and a person to help
Theres absolutely no way that transfer box had any fresh oil in when fitted! You would have seen a finger-full of oil in the drain hole even if the seals etc were leaking. Full stop.
Put the cap on first. You wasted too much fluid
I would have taken it back to who ever did the job and let them deal with it. They didn't do it right let them figure out how to fix it.
Easy for you to say
Do you really want someone who didn't do it right the first time to do it again
And back and back and back
@@DaveBigDawg
Here's the problem, who ever rebuilt the transfer case won't honor the warranty because who ever put it in didn't fill it with fluid. So if another shop does the work it's going to cost the customer again.
@@bertgrau3934 okay then why didn't they bring it back to them for warranty or was it out of warranty
Also being out of fluid was only a guess not fact.
Also as Kenny indicated it had some sort of repair with looks like JB Weld.
The other company could be trying to place blame on the vehicle owners and not honor any warranty if there is one
The rubber part is made to absorb specific frequencies of vibration. Eg. Harmonics
