    Ah yes, the magical hands that turn all strings to scrap metal in a matter of minutes. 😢 I feel you

    I also have funky fingers. I feel your pain. I like DR coated for this.
    Your tone is great. D'addario are great strings also.

      Unfortunately i also kill DR coated strings extremely fast. The only ones that last longer for me are Elixir

    I bought a set of NYXL strings for my Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar bass in 2018 it took 4 years of 2-3 times/week playing before they completely lost their tone. I love that they can be bright when you dig in but really warm and full when you play softer.

    I am very impressed by the NYXL45105 set, these feel more flexible than I am used to, but that is good! I can feel and hear it in the bass and treble end: Better harmonics, but also more and more defined lows. Compared to the NYXL's the regular XL's feel stiffer and sound more mid centered, and they last a little shorter. I really like the NYXL's and yes they are more expensive, but here I get the feeling i am paying for a better string. With other brands (elixir) I get the feeling I am paying for the fantastic coating on a quality but mediocre string.. Really like the NYXL bass strings here!

    Tried the NYXL on my Sandberg VM4. They didn't last any longer than standard D'addario nickels and went straight back to my EXL's. Have since moved onto the XT strings and finding them similar tone to NYXL but they seem to be lasting longer so far. 2 mths with regular gigs, rehearsals and practice at home. Now got XT's on my 2 main gigging basses (Sandberg VM4 and MarloweDK)

      As far as I know XTs are the same as NYXLs but they have a special treatment applied to them that makes them last longer.
      In my case, I kill them at the same speed as the other regular strings 😅🥲

    I have had a set on my bass for over 7 months now and I've never had a set last so long and sound so good. You can hear how they sound on my jazz bass in my Turning Japanese bass cover (I don't mean that as a channel plug). I'm impressed with them! Normally I use Dunlop Super Brights just because they are so cheap and I prefer to keep things sounding new, but I could never get 6 months out of them. But like you said, every instrument and situation is different! it's a bit of a nightmare to test everything out sometimes.

      I also like how Super Brights sound/feel, but they’re hard to find here in Europe

    I must be old as i like old strings without overtones...i clean them regulary as don't like gunk or play with dirty fingers...but new strings seem to have 2 tones...the bass & an upper treble tone at the same time...new flats as much as i can replace, especially if recording, or they go to dull but not cheap replacing them regulary.....better to buy in bulk once you have decided what you want to use....good demo of the strings & using both maple & rosewood fretboard's...

      Flatwounds are great for certain types of music!

    They are not really expensive if you use Flatwounds like TI's. I am going to try them as an alternative to my D'Addario EXL170's.

    • @IvanBassist
      @IvanBassist  ปีที่แล้ว

      TIs cost pretty much the same as any other flatwound here in Germany. Maybe NYXLs are a bit cheaper in North America 😄

    I watched your last video and appreciate this video. Would you recommend these for metal playing?

    • @IvanBassist
      @IvanBassist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, for sure. I’d grab a thicker gauge if I was to downtune, though

    Ivan. Really like your vids. You're a great player. Just curious. have you tried the Ernie Ball Cobalt bass strings?

    • @IvanBassist
      @IvanBassist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve only tried Cobalt Flats. I might order a set of rounds some time.

      @@IvanBassist The Cobalt flats have become my favourite out of the five different flat wound strings I've tried. They check all the boxes and have the great duality of being mellow and sharp - which character they'll have is up to how you play - and that is why they are such different, new and good strings to use.

    I play a G&L SB-2T. What G&L double split coil is this your playing?? Freaked me out - I was just considering a Revelation RPBX. G&L is the underrated bombshell of instruments where Leo and George perfected all their older designs from the 50's - that Fender is still riding on...

    • @IvanBassist

      That is a G&L Matador. It’s a custom shop-only model

    Expensive for a bass string? NYXL strings are very inexpensive compared to really good strings like laBella, Optima, Pyramid, Thomastik. I don't think the NYXL's are anything special. There are other inexpensive strings that perform better...SIT Foundations and Stringjoy as examples.
