  • Here we explore my system for decoding the phrasing of African decent music, RTS - Relayed Time shifting. To get the proper feel of this music, western players must learn to do this. Without the proper feel, Your playing sounds sterile and 1 dimensional.

nice, im 15 and i have been getting into brazilian/ jazz/ afro cuban, and i am starting to really understand it, i think it has its own language, alphebet, formulas, and this will help me continue on to be as good as you.

Wow, this video is extremely helpful. I've yet to completely wrap my head around feeling both 6/8 and cut together and separately... and playing them both ways. Playing that clave feel under your solo was mind-blowing, I hope to have that coordination and comfort one day.

Hi Upbeat...Its not metric modulation really. This is about accessing the vocabulary of 6/8 and transferring it to the music. If you try to do the phrasing with out thinking this way its impossible. This system basically is ear training so that you can hear the vocabulary properly. Hope that helps.
    All the best

I thought I was the only one who noticed. Most of the stuff on expert village is crap. Now, if I see that a videos on expert village, that automatically counts against it.

This is the kind of drumming that a lot of you avoid. Why??? It takes more then just trying to analyze it. You have got to have natural rhythm. Not all have it. Just like Basket Ball, not all have it. So all you haters of world music,,,,,,, we know your mad. But at least you wont waste your time and ours. Rumba!!!!!!
