We moved to Portugal from Spain because we'd had enough of Spanish "house arrest" (Covid lockdown), and we are much, much, happier here. Lovely people, just so friendly, and we are far more integrated with the locals. It's not a perfect culture by any stretch, and nowhere near as modern, wealthy or sophisticated as Spain, but it's got real heart. We love it, including our two teens.
I love Peniche. I’m a Scottish yoga teacher and discovered it for the first time last year when I taught my retreat near the silver coast and I took my group on day trips to Peniche. Beautiful!! I’m happy for you!
Portugal and Spain are very similar though, specially if you know that Spain is very diverse and Galicia is very different from the Mediterranean coast. It's not the same country, of course, but not that different as most people say.
Living in Portugal, specially in the Algarve is far superior than any part of Spain. Do not take my word for it , go to both Nations , and see the differences.
Live , retired in Portugal, Ericeira not far from Peniche . Since my mid twenties have been coming here now in our second home, love ever day , hour, minute of my/ our time in this country so lucky to be here not in England. My beautiful wife is Portuguese so had a good excuse to retire here. Totally understand why you love life here. watch with interest your channel and enjoy your chats. Many thanks
ah sunset is about and hour and a half after ourselves here in Glasgow and then later in the year it turns around , love it , like the Atlantic coast weather in Portugal.
Olá Stuart. Happy New Year! You are in my very favourite place in Portugal. I spent 3 months there a few years ago. I am currently back in Portugal (finally) and I'm in Setúbal... (friend had a sublet)... BUT, I'm so missing the Costa Prata! I will make sure I visit Peniche before I head back to Canada... and now I'm certain that the Peniche area is the right place for me! Setúbal is nice for a little visit, but I cannot see myself living here and desperately wish I could just spend the rest of my visit where you are... but I'm committed to being here for a while. Still, it is wonderful to be back in Portugal! p.s. I LOVED the Portuguese vegetable soup (sopa de legumes)
Finally in Portugal. I'm from not far from where you are. Very good idea to do a different video. Portugal is totally different from Spain, starting by the people. The home food is also different . It's less industrialised, less fatty, less sauces. Anyway Spain has its virtues like Portugal has too. Come more times!
Portugal is totally different than Spain? I'm Portuguese, I know many places in Spain and I don't think so. I mean, it's not the same country but we are very similar in the end.
@@Summer-bo9rw Explain me the reasons why do you think it's very different. Because I don't see it that way. And, again, I'm Portuguese and of course I'm biased for Portugal.
I can tell you that for the past 2 months the water temperature has been on par or higher than the air temperature in the majority of the west coast, despite the unusual warm temperatures that we've been having during these two months (only the highs, the lows have been relatively normal for the season). Unfortunately, both are a consequence of the climate changes we're experiencing.
Hi Stuart! Thank you for your in depth info about places you are visiting in in Iberia. I plan to visit Portugal in last decade of February, so your experiences from the visit at the eary winter there are precious to me :)
Annual summary of rainfall days here in northern La Coruña province: 185 days 1520 litres/sq meter. You should pay a visit to these beaches in this area: Doniños, Covas, San Jorge, Valdoviño, Pantín, Villarrube and Morouzos in Ortigueira.
I've never been to Spain, but have been to Portugal. I'm only there off season, and its beauty always surprises me. It seems to have everything: mountains, foothills, plains, beaches, megalithic stone circles, and beautiful cities with palaces and museums. Even the trash-strewn purlieus have something attractive about them. I've only seen a small area so far and wish to see more. I don't dare imagine living there, but apparently she has too few American expats.
I moved to Portugal 5 years ago… Fabulous people, zero crime ! The Algarve is a box 100km wide and 40 km “deep” , only 400K people live there ! It’s superb !! If you are over 50, enjoy golf, motorcycles… it’s fabulous.
Muchas gracias por el vídeo Stuart, looking good there amigo,we are off to costa Blanca on Monday, for a month, hope the new accommodation rules are not to problematic, hasta luego amigo
Love peniche and stayed at baleal. Bought land with a river in central outside a small village not far from city. Moving in 2025. No NHR it's ok worth it. Thanx for the great vids. Happy New Year. Gina in Upstate New York USA moving to Portugal in 2025 and Italy part time
Season’s greetings Stuart. I usually pop over to Espinho for Christmas and love the smell of the sea and the cloudless blue skies. A great choice in Peniche❤. 🍺🍺 Cheers.
Its not costal erosion, Sir 😊 it is called waves. The ocean takes away sand when there is a specific weather causing specific waves direction and eventually it will bring it back again. It dependes on the winds and types of waves coming from a specific side of the coast.
Regarding erosion, after 62 years I can definitely say that the sand comes and goes. Never has the sand only receeded. It all comes back either after a short month or 1 year but there is no permanent erosion here, so far that is.
Exactly, the erosion exists for the ones that build to near to the beach. I'm 55 years old and I remember the older people from my town ( Lavra, Matosinhos) saying " what belongs to the sea, soon or later, He comes to get back" and is so true.
Hola Stuart, I was wondering what your past experience with surfing, if at all, has been? Especially being from Australia. Did you surf, as a young man, back in Perth? While in Portugal, have you ever gone up to Nazare to check out the international surfing competitions they have there all the time? Wow, they really get some massive waves there! Still always watching and loving your videos. Take care, Stu.
I'm a Portuguese American and love Portugal, but most people exaggerate everything!! NO place is a paradise. Once you make a country your home, wherever that may be, it becomes mundane with its pluses and minuses. That's a fact! People are daydreamers.
Come to Tenerife. Air temp 23°. Water 22°. No erosion problems. Prices considerably cheaper. I love Portugal, but cheaper to live here all year round. Menu del dia still under 10€. Local bar large wine 1.80€ ❤😊
I went to Peniche several times in the very early 1990s it was a small village , fishing boats moored in the open bay , the village ,I remember well had a small river running through it ,it was no more than an open sewer, frankly the whole place stank , am sure it's very different now .
@janethaver3375 so-so... I go on a trekking expedition once a week for vital things. And then rest my poor ankle the rest of the week while doing exercises for the tendinitis. A very nice Xmas as a new retiree!
Water is far too cold in Portugal and it's way too windy. I lived there for 5 months and will never return unfortunately. Coffee culture is damn awful too, cheap and nasty Robusta served as standard, similar to Spain.
European west coast waters are cold like in the US but over the summer feels good when is really hot and jumping in the water. Is a coffee culture in Portugal and I’m talking about express coffee which I imported to US when I moved 35 years ago, I drink an express in the morning and when I’m back from work I will drink a few more 😊
In all our travels, have never experienced friendlier people or better hospitality than when in Portugal.
Same here 😊.
. Sound 💪🥇😔
Agree!

@@jedw9983 What culture is perfect??? Not even the US is, for sure!
Fun fact. Soup is so important in Portugal that McDonalds has soup on the menu!
We once stayed at Sao Martinho do Porto, just a bit North of Peniche. Lovely place!
I love Peniche. I’m a Scottish yoga teacher and discovered it for the first time last year when I taught my retreat near the silver coast and I took my group on day trips to Peniche. Beautiful!! I’m happy for you!
Yoga 👉😈
The beaches in Portugal are spectacular. You certainly have the best of both worlds - Spain and Portugal - all the best to you and your family
Glad to see lovely mia again
Portugal And Spain............so different and so alike.

Happy New Year to you and your family and thankyou Stuart for your vlogs wherever you go 🎉
Thank you so much Stu for all your hard work to bring the news, current events and generally positive and interesting blog, happy new year 😊
Great vlog. I'm also a big fan of Portugal and particularly enjoy my visits to Porto whenever I'm in Spain.

Love Obidos! Enjoy!
It looks wonderful there Stu. Thank You.
Happy New Year!
Stayed in Peniche last year in November, wonderful place
¡Felices fiestas, Stuart!
Can see the appeal of Peniche after life in the city. Have a great holiday

That is one of the differences that I noticed about Spain compared with Portugal is the number of rules on the beaches in some parts of Spain.

Well done! not sure if the summer surfing crowd would disturb the ambiance of a relaxing Ocean front Megawalk.🤔
Portugal vs Spain? Time and place for each I think.
Beautiful part of the world, lucky you 🎉. Are you a surfer mate?
The Winter weather in Peniche is shocking !
Can I recommend the Algarve …
Stuart you look very well fed😮
Cheeky! He’s got a big coat on
How does Portugal compare to Spain, price wise including long let rentals?
I can't wait to get back to Peniche. Unfortunately it will likely become another tourist hot spot sooner rather than later
I recommend Venezuela or North Korea, Portugal to many tourists, and immigrants now
Hello❤
I would be happy in either country rather than USA.
I reckon Stu is in the smuggling game

Portuguese roads are fine. The problem with driving in Portugal are Portuguese drivers. Mark my words
Some of them good for OffRoad and Rallye 😅
We, the lucky Iberians, have it all.

Don't Portu-geeze on your Portuguese.
When horses do their business while on the beach, do the riders clean it up, I hope so .
Lol , you can hope for long😂😂😂
Portugal is poorer, and more expensive. Spain is wealthier and cheaper. That's how I understand it. Could be wrong. I must admit I like the Atlantic.
No . Not more expensive .
According to ChatGPT Portugal is cheaper on average.
