I live in London, Ontario, Canda..we have a Thames here to!! lol. Not near as much history in my Thames, just lots of beer cans and bikes. There is some battle fields from the war of 1812 in this area but I haven't reseached if you can dig these sites. Great vid!
I had a similar thing on holiday with mine.It turned out to be a loop of the wire was sticking out too far close to the coil. I ran the cable straight up the shaft for six inches and secured it with a velcro wrap after that. Also check theres no tiny bits of stuff in the coil cover.Good luck.
The Thames is part of the Crown Estate so it's private land effectively and a permit is required. The Port Of London Authority administer the Crown Estate Act of 1961. You can download an application form from the Port Of London Authority website. You can search " eyes only" and pick up surface finds without a license. You pay either £25 for a day or £55 for up to 3 years to allow to dig up to 3 inches in designated areas to protect the archeology.
I bet there is loads in the Thames. The amount of shipping thats crossed in their over the past 4-600 years + is massive. They found an ancient bridge not too long ago.
Under chelsea bridge, did you find any bits from the German V2 rocket that landed in the river. As the scars from that explosion can be still be seen on the bridge support.
How did you get a permit? I'm looking to do the same with an Ace 250, but I don't know how to get a permit or anything. I live in London so I can easily get to the Thames, but is the permit absolutely necessary?
Is it ok just to walk the foreshore and pick up what you see, without any digging or scraping? Most such items would tend to be clay pipe fragments, pottery shards, the occasional coin and nails.
I ended up getting the 150, Ive found some good things, 2 gold rings, and plenty of old coins, but I've noticed that its playing up. Its signalling all the time and when I go to dig it theres nothing there, Ive put 3 set of new batteries in it and its still doing it, its really getting me down. Have you any advise? have you here'd of this before
Poking aroundin the Thames, you're quite likely to find unexploded WW2 ordnance ... if you hit that without knowing what you're doing, quite a few people will know about it! :D
im from uk 30 mile away from London and why the hell would you want to come hear when you got all the silver in the ground lol when i get a bit of money im going america good luck and keep swinging.
neat, but they sure are nitpicky about how you search the thames river shore--what the crap could it hurt to dig 7 or 8 inches or even more along that mucky junk?
Dode your swinging too far from each swing! your only covering about 50% so your finding 50% only. And make stuff more faster, get a pro-pointer from garrett as it seems your garrett kind of guy.
It's all about land ownership and protection of historical sites. If historical sites were not protected then every man and his dog would come diggin' the place up and ruining it. That's how it is here in Scotland. England may have different rules.
I love optimistic Americans are: "Hopefully find something Roman, what ever it is its will be older than anything in America" ..also its strange hearing people talk in centre meters and I'm British !!
Hope you had your vaccinations, the Thames was once the filthiest river in England. You can pick up many diseases just from contact with with something from the riverbed. However, many amazing things can be found along the riverbanks.
that pad lock looks very moden to me no way its 1800s and i couldent think of a worst place to spend a day off work than in a dirty smelly place like london .
"It's gonna be older than what we normally find in America......." ?? You certainly know your $hit....but if you're looking for OLD, you don't have to go ride in a tube and be molested by the un-armed blokes, my friend! Come on back home where the real action is!!!
mudlarking the Thames would be so much fun

Well done getting out on the river Thames .. could have been a good hunt as the weather looked pretty nice... BigfootDigger
Its very sturdy and rugged. Still caution is advised none the
less, it is a precision instrument. GL & "keep er swingin"
oh you had pro-pointer... just noticed at the end, as objects are on surface it's way faster to sweet with pro-pointer before digging.

The 250 is worth the extra in my opinion.I went from the 150 to a cs3mx and it was massively better.

The ATP looks like it is built like a tank. Can anyone verify that?

Also, watch out for mud holes. You can never tell how deep they are until it's too late!
