  • This is my brand new 2015 bone stock Scrammy hitting the speed limiter at 85MPH and pulling the front tires at 55 MPH I hit 60MPH in 4 about seconds. The Scrammy is nuts!! Filmed with Gopro 3+ on Chesty mount.
    This video is unedited to prove it is not messed with.

    I had a 400 back when I was like 9 or 10. At first when my dad got it for me I was disappointed because it was an auto, but needless to say it quickly won me over. Once I'm done with college, have a nice job, and have a house in the country, I'm definitely getting one of these.

    +Jeff MacLeod You mentioned in a post placed a month ago that you're thinking about getting an XP1000 Sportsman. Here is some info that you may find relevant. I own a 2015 Sportsman XP1000 along with an 800 Can Am X XC. I primarily ride the XP as it is more comfortable, has a more supple suspension, has better front end ground clearance (a necessity in the Sierra), has more carrying capacity and is a bit quieter. But I have three complaints:
    1) Polaris gets an 'F' for ease of use of the range select shifter. I have also owned a 2005 800 Sportsman, a Can Am Max, and two models of Arctic Cat and have driven other Polaris, Kowasaki and Suzuki quads. None of them are anywhere near as difficult to shift between Hi and Lo as the XP1000. No matter if you violently rock back and forth in an attempt to minimize gear loading before shifting, it is still an absolute bitch to shift. I eventually broke the lever. To their credit, Polaris at least acknowledged the issue. They replaced the lever and serviced both the primary and secondary clutches under warranty. The clutch work was supposed to reduce the gear loading - but it did not help. Consequently, not only do I come to a stop, but I now also turn the engine OFF before shifting ranges. Only then does the shift take a reasonable amount of effort.
    2) The XP exhaust system differs from what is on the scrambler. The XP has a single muffler position less than an inch from the sidewall of the right tire and at one spot, is less than 2 inches from the rear body panel - close enough to melt it. Polaris replaced the entire rear body panel once and added a (too) small heat shield. But with 12 hours of use, it melted again, this time just above the (too) small heat shield. This proximity to the tire also precludes the use of snow chains and might ultimately lead to tire delamination. I don't know if the 2016 or 2017 models have addressed this with extra shielding. But fundamentally, for the XP1000, Polaris should revert the back to the rear end mounted muffler design that is still used on the XP850 instead of the right side wheel well location.
    3) The power steering on the Polaris is clearly inferior to what is on the Can Am. The Polaris steering has a lot of slop/play which makes the XP feel more 'squirrelly' at speed. Even when the XP is parked and turned off, you can wiggle the handlebars quite a bit before you begin to feel the effort needed for the wheels to begin turning left/right. Not so with the Can Am and not so with the XPs that did not have power steering (this is no longer offered).
    I have a question for you - This Scrambler lists a lot lower cargo weight carrying capacity. Aside from the smaller racks my guess as to why it can carry less is that the scrambler uses softer springs. Have you compared the two and/or know if this is the case?

    • @jeffmacleod5331
      @jeffmacleod5331  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear they can have shim issues with the clutch that make it hard to shift gears. Easy fix but I didn't have the problem on mine.

      Great info. I haven't yet bought the sportsman but it's in the near future. The scrambler rides like a dream and I never got enough of it. I'm moving to a sportsman for the storage and mud protection.

    • @jeffmacleod5331
      @jeffmacleod5331  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 660 Grizz was top dog back then and yeah they ran about +/- 60mph. Yamaha needs a new big bore to keep up with popo and can am. Polaris owns it right now, I drag raced a 1000 canam... Beat him by 6-8 lengths at 400'.. 75mph.

      I joined the forum, lots of good info. From the research I did I think the big gun full system is the best by far but a fueler is definitely required. Good luck :)
