    Thanks for this. It's hard to find instruction as a layperson that is simple and clear, so this conversational format is really useful. In regard to the topic, I had not thought to examine the structure of my reaction to desire and the motivations in allowing myself to experience it. Rather, I was blaming myself for feeling it. This helps me to move forward in my practice. Cheers :)

    Thank you for your clarity upon the development of sense restraint. During a few of your prior talks, I felt strong desires to abandon almost all things which I feel are not productive, but those desires only filled me with dread. This clarity will help me with my lay practice.

      It's a process that takes right effort for sure. And part of that is knowing in your heart what kind of effort keeps you inspired and what kind of effort is fueled by guilt at shoulds. I think there are a lot of great dhamma teachers that know how to teach at the right level if you feel me.

    _Mendicants, sensual pleasures are impermanent, hollow, false, and deceptive, made by illusion, cooed over by fools._
    Sensual pleasures in this life
    and in lives to come,
    sensual perceptions in this life
    and in lives to come;
    both of these are Māra’s sovereignty, Māra’s domain, and Māra’s territory.
    They conduce to bad, unskillful qualities such as desire, ill will, and aggression. And they create an obstacle for a noble disciple training here.

    This is an excellent teaching on sensuality. Thanks a lot. It has really clarified my insight into sensuality before I started practicing according to Buddhism.

    As always thank you for the clear insights. We have to recollect this as it is very easy to become drawn into the mechanical self obedience of precepts , which then easily transforms into silabbata paramassa (the wrong view that obedience of rites and rituals will lead to enlightenment ) a fetter.
    Sila on account of not being reflected properly, will not hold as strong as the reflected precepts with correct understanding of the source. Yoniso manasikara, as usual is a must, our best tool in the dhamma toolbox.
    We have to constantly inquire ourselves to find out the root motivation of our action, and see if it's rooted in greed, aversion oder delusion.
    Only then we will know if they are wholesome or unwholesome.
    Do the wholesome and avoid acting out ,doing the unwholesome.
    Thank you Bhantes Sadhux3!
