One of my fans stopped working before I owned my current car. Gave the messed up one a hit with a hammer on the back and it started working again! Thanks mate
My man! 2009 Ford Edge. Blowing hot air, intermittent AC clutch. Checked fuses, relay, diode etc... re-charged and nada. Noticed fans weren't spinning, checked YT found your vid. Couple taps, checked harness and boom! Both fans spinning, and ice cold when I added a bit more coolant. Thank you for the tip!
I have been trying to avoid replacing the fcm on my 08 edge, took the fans off and blew out TONS of black dust, plugged in the fans externally like this and turned on the car. Flipped the ac on and they work! Thanks for saving me over $100
I came here looking for placement of fuses/relay, my A/C only worked when car was in motion but then I tried this same trick and the fan is working again. For how long who knows but it buys me some time, thank you for this video.
I have a 2012 Chevy Tahoe PPV. Chevy has a safety recall that replaces the electric cooling fans because they can catch fire. When I got the car back, only one fan was working. It was later brought to light that Chevy only replaced the shroud and one side of the wiring harness. My car had been overheating at idle so I always have to click to snowflake button to activate the one working fan. Yesterday, it was freezing cold outside so my snowflake button would not work and my engine temperature started rising. Needless to say, I found your video and decided to give a few love taps to the non working fan. It worked! Thank you
Thank you so much for this video. I was about to fix my wife truck. Mechanic just told us it would be $650 to fix it. But nope those few taps worked and both fans are now running.🥰👍🤗
Thanks for doing a great video on this specific issue. I have same color vehicle you have with exact issue that the top radiator fan close to module isn't working. Only the fan farthest away from the module is actually working 2007 edge sel awd 3.5L v6 automatic with the tow package...... I just recently over past few days done the following work on the suv: New front rotors & calipers New set of shocks front & back wheels New brake pads front & rear I still need to install rear lateral arm or lower control arms both sides in rear for alignment to be done...
I want to tell you thank you. I know the trick about tapping on a starter will free it up sometimes, but didn't even think about it for the fans. My 08 edge overheated and I tracked it down to the cooling fan. I was looking at spending a few hundred $$$ to get a new one and wasn't real happy about it. I watched your video tapped each a few times and they are running again. I hope that cleaned out the funk in the brushes and maybe gets me by for a while longer. Thanks a ton!
FABULOUS! Thanks for the advice. My wife's 09 Edge overheated last week, and similarly to Slinging Sliver, I was ready for a costly repair. I LOVE the "Love Tap"! Thanks for the help.
Holy wow, you sir probably just saved me a few hundred dollars. Car was overheating and didnt realize the fans werent turning. One would sometimes, gave them a love tap and they r both going strong. Will update if they stop again and it turns out to b something else but holy crap, so glad this was the first vid google brought up!
Thank You Thank You...ac only worked while moving. I was ready to order new fan...reached down and gave some love taps and was just ready to give up then started working.! Thanks again!
Prob be pulling that fan back out sooner rather than later. They get seized that way because they are wore out and need replacing. Unless you want to get out n peck them whenever your engine starts overheating
Hit with a hammer the back center in each fan, carbon dust can adding friction to the motor fan. It worked for me when the motor wasn’t start or the fan was running slowly.
Thank you for this! Saved me a bunch of money and time. Took it a step further and took the offending fan motor out. Shook about 2 tablespoons of super fine black dust out of it then hit it with the air compressor. Fixed!
I tapped the motors the high speed can on the other one did not .I had AC on when I shut it the high speed ran then shut off. Does this eliminate troubleshooting the rest and assume it’s the fan. Thanks for the video 2min and 37 seconds to the point
Please note that if you are replacing the fans they need to be OEM. After market fans will not work properly. I bought mine yesterday from ford and they work fine. I had to return the ones that i bought from oriely.
hey thanks I've tried just about everything but replace the Assembly and came across this video and it worked. Did u ever have to replace the fans or are they still working?
Hi, I have kind of the same problem in my case only the lower fan works. My question is do they always work together? are they supposed to turn on at the same time? Love to hear about this and great video.
@@ellow791 When they are connected to the car they don´t always work togethet it depends on how hot is the engine but doing this test will let you know if they work individually. In my case I replaced the fan assembly with an aftermarket one and both fans are working fine after 3 and a half months. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU
See when I do this on my 03 Malibu only one side works. But the thing is, when I tested it, I unplugged the one from the driver side but only one fan kicked and not the other. Passenger side kick but not driver side 🤷🏾♂️
Replace fans because they will fail again and it's not worth having the engine overheat and possibly blowing a head gasket which will cost more to fix.
Tried tapping no luck! Put new module in has new fans has new radiator, has new fluid sensor paid $59 to have some mec check everything said it was module second one put in still fan not worling,,,
Well I replaced the fan relay, cussed a bit threw a few things ,watched this video in my head was saying what are the odds. Fuck it nothing to lose. Beat the shit out of both fans and I'll be dammed they both came to life.😁👍 this video provides more than just automotive troubleshooting. Should be under life advice, if you have tried everything beat the shit out of it you may get lucky.
Hey Teddy, Just a couple questions I have a lincoln MKX 2008 with towing package it seems and the coolant fan fuse keeps blowing. I replaced the fuse with a 60amp as thats what was there before. I realized that the Lincoln MKX is supposed to have two 40amp fuses instead. Can this be the solution to my problem? If not, what else would cause the fuse from blowing?
seems to me a 60 amp fuse is a little high, if your system has a short it would blow that fuse ...so that is not your problem.maybe the fan motor is drawing more amps at start up...
Hey mann! : ) very detailed video and very informative.. can you please guide me on how can i identify + from - wire from fan plug and as you mentioned in the video, "stick your negative into positive" so did you mean negative hard wire from battery to positive part in plug of fan or other way? thanks ! :)
negative to negative .......... positive to positive .... the black wire is ground also known as negative positive wire is either red,,purple, blue etc.. oh if you happen to reverse them all that will happen is fan will spin the other way ..
Hello Sir, i was able to check my fan it turend on ! :) thank you 1s again for your information . i am looking at my ford taurus 2000. but the fan won't turn on when it hooked up in the car. i checked the fuse it is good , there is no engine light on as well . i checked online for more info it said to look for cooling fan temperature switch but i was not able to locate it . can you please help me on this. : ) thanks in advance! :)

Hi sir could u tell me about my car volvo v70 year 2001, coolant fan is working, but when the water is very hot the fan is not give the high speed so i always turn off car and open the hood and add more water to make it cool back. and could you show me a picture of relay?
here i googled it....................www.google.ca/search?q=volvo+v70+cooling+fan+relay&sa=X&rlz=1C1CHBF_enCA719CA719&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&ved=0ahUKEwjamIb9wcXUAhWC64MKHbPhAWsQsAQIMg&biw=1536&bih=747
1 restricted air flow to radiator 2 fan not coming on 3 thermostat stuck closed 4 need more coolant These things could cause engine to overheat ,its a process of elimination.
Subscribed, & thumbs up.... after tinkering, I wired my two fans up directly, then found the large primary fan had a short which kept popping 30 amp fuses, so went to the secondary, smaller fan on ' high ' which seems to work just fine.... gonna pull primary fan when time permits, and either repair or replace... plus, just figured out how to wire relays, with U Tube tutorials....

Encienden los dos al mismo tiempo? Ayuda!
This video just saved me $1200 for ac repair. Thanks for such a helpful video.

SlingingSilver thanks it works
SlingingSilver is the fan still working?
How'd it hold up slingingsilver???

2012 Ford Edge sport giving "love" taps worked but still need to replace the fan. I thank you for the diagnose.
Praise Christ Jesus. It worked Sir, thank you!!! Now I can replace the radiator!!!

Ric Wilson you should probably go ahead and buy the new fan unless you want to give Love taps every time you turn on your motor.
How'd it hold up???
Prob be pulling that fan back out sooner rather than later.

Just bought my 09 Edge. One fan should always come on with air conditioning running.
thanks, i tapped on the back while engine running and hot, the fans started to work.
Amazing dude you saved are family crabbing trip with this Bandaid
hey man thanks alot. i was about to just order a whole fan assembly. the love tap trick really worked. thank u much
If older fan motor has been compromised just replace the whole assembly and be done with it.
See when I do this on my 03 Malibu only one side works. But the thing is, when I tested it, I unplugged the one from the driver side but only one fan kicked and not the other. Passenger side kick but not driver side 🤷🏾♂️
I just want to say thank you a lot. It really works. Thats fix the fan problem, I will expend a few hundreds for that. But your skills save me. 😁
Replace fans because they will fail again and it's not worth having the engine overheat and possibly blowing a head gasket which will cost more to fix.
Not all the time. Sometimes it's just rust and junk in the bearings. They aren't complicated.
Tried tapping no luck! Put new module in has new fans has new radiator, has new fluid sensor paid $59 to have some mec check everything said it was module second one put in still fan not worling,,,
good info here on the fan tapping great idea, thanks.
Okay so my setup is also a dual setup. So the low speed fan is the one with out the module. ?

Do you understand how thankful I am to find this video all the money you saved me
thank for the comment,
My car fans won’t turn on ik for fact one is broke, is it the switch for the a.c or what?
If you find someone with a 1996 dodge intrepid 3.5 Liter car that overheating can you do a video?
what are the symptoms of a bad Fan module??
Ya I would like to know that too... Did you find out any info on a bad module??
“Tapa tapa tapa” - ballet dance instructor from the simpsons
Still would change them once a fan does that is really no good because of the moisture and the rust inside of it because it's going to stop again
That there is a smart fella.
Thank you so much, A little love tap got my fan working. not sure how long it will last until I replace it this summer.
How'd it hold up???
could you tell me about cooling fan volvo v70 not working when water very hot. the fan still work but not high speed when water very hot.
could be in relay........if fan is only running at one speed..
Wish me luck.. about to take out my fan and give her a bang lol. Thanks!
i saw this video and tried it ill be damned it worked thanks
whats d problem with the fan when it only turns on when you tap it?

Open inside the fan and see whats loose inside that it if you can fix It fix It other wise replace it
very nice thank you

thanks so much
Excellent job. Thanks
Why is my 1996 dodge intrepid over heating?
1 restricted air flow to radiator
2 fan not coming on
3 thermostat stuck closed
4 need more coolant
These things could cause engine to overheat ,its a process of elimination.
Because it wants to kill itself.
Amazing trick! I did as you advised, a few taps and things are working perfectly again. Thanks for the great advise!!!
Still going strong???
this video just saved me alot of money
Way to go...Hopefully mine does that eh?
I m raheel auto Electricion ford adge new complete fan install but automatic fan not warkink u know what is this problem
fuse blown, sensor, break in wire, bad connection
i find out groud wire break back side right head light
I have a 2003 impala and my cooling fan doesn't turn on
Ps. Don't bother taking them out just smack them
Your such a goat man
One of two fans on my 2003 New Beetle not working... gonna tap, jiggle, etc..
Throw it out, get some new ones, they are not that expensive...
New radiator fan and it doesn’t turn on
what about Tha fan relay ?
I don't think it even needed it. Got a new one now tho
So in other words, KEEP A HAMMER IN YOUR CAR to Fix things. 🤪
.
👏😐
This Works!!!
Replace
still wouldnt trust it
