Very interesting view. The air vortices in particular are fun to watch.

Nice view of the tailpipe. You picked up the jelly so clearly. What camera did you use for this?

Afterburner...it's not Top Gun! Reheat on this side of the pond.

Great video thank you. But please... I'ts "Reheat" not afterburners :-) Sorry to be pedantic lol. I will get my coat.

Why, why do they use re-heat all the time!!! All that fuel! It's not like s/he is in a hurry or stacked full of payload, is it honestly truly necessary, can't you get off the ground otherwise!! The Americans are the same, re-heat, re-heat, re-heat at almost every takeoff. This is our tax dollars or quids paying for all this fuel you know! I mean, it's almost like a race to see who can waste the maximum amount óf fuel before the bogey man takes it away? You've got 15,000lbs of dry thrust, can't you get into the air with that?!
Do you really need 18,000lbs, are your tyres made of super glue or something!?

Well, for starters the RB199 kicks out 9.2lbs of thrust in full military power, 17 in Reheat. They use Reheat to give them a larger safety margin incase of an aborted take-off, as they'll have more runway to play with (so to speak). Another benefit is that if something was to go wrong during the take-off, that little extra speed aswell as height will give them increased time to ascertain whether it's safer to go around, ditch it or eject. It has nothing to do with "showboating" & everything to do with safety. Looking absolutely fukn awesome is just a happy coincidence. 😁
Now, I'm going to go out on limb here & speak for the masses & say even if it was all to do with "showboating," that's something, I'm sure most people in this country wouldn't mind spending some of their taxes on.
