in theory yes, but people still think of what happened decades ago before the mental hospitals were closed down during the Reagan admin, so today they call forcing someone into state run care against their will unconstitutional, but with this nightmare i hope things will change soon...

Step 3: create new mental hospitals, rehab & social services along with free ride educational pipeline to staff these facilities.
Pay for it by cutting wasteful spending- end funding for all illegal immigrant programs, no state health care, food benefits, housing subsidies, & no $ to NGOs that help them. Cut all $ to LGBT & "social justice" NGOs, end safe injection sites, ban narcan, ban tent cities, etc...

Blaming all of this on Covid is exactly how we got here. Many of these issues in our cities were rapidly deteriorating for decades, way before the pandemic shut everything down. What Covid did was rip the bandaid off and intensified the issues that were already there in our cities, which have been democrat run and majority elected for years.
Refusing to acknowledge this, is just shifting the blame, instead of understanding that this is the result of many years of failed policies and liberal leadership.

Don't call them homeless some of those people want to live in the street. I went to Sacramento 65th street Stockton Blvd area is homeless central. I tried to help them off the street, not one of them wanted my help they didn't even want the food I brought them. Seriously some people want to be in the street they don't want to pay tax nor vote nor have anyone, nor anything to worry about. Meanwhile, those of us working hard trying to go to college and work at the same time get no help. Those of us trying to get ahead and make it can Not Even get affordable housing programs, because you can't go to a public college and receive affordable housing. Even if you do not get financial aid they consider the public college subsidy founded and it is considered to be double dipping into two subsidies for college students to get affordable housing. Basically you end up having to rent with other people because you don't make the 4 times the amount of the rent as your income. So they won't help you if you are productive, even if you are struggling college student trying to get ahead. This is the issue with where they pour their money and then shame the wrong people for being broke and needing help. When they only throw the money at these things instead of disabled people who really need it or struggling students do they can contribute to them getting done with college quicker.

What a shame!!!! I remember a couple of years before Covid madness people were moving to Oregon and WA from Chicago and especially Portland for having a nice climate and being a wonderful city. 😬 But Chicago is now following the same path, more boarded abandoned businesses, regarding so much crime and migrants now taking over. I wonder if American citizens would ever start protesting, the ones that work and pay taxes and keep this world going on, police officers that are now disrespected and cannot use their power. Not just the insane protesters that shot the highway and disrupted people's flights. WHO on earth is benefiting from this. How can anyone make more excuses

It seems the city councils and elected officials worry more about drug addicts than people and businesses whose life destroyed by them. Addicts don’t need freedom to use drugs but mandatory treatment. The priority should be the safety of the taxpayers not a bunch of drug users.

Even if a criminal is sent to prison, the parole system releases back to commit more crime. Create mass tent cities, some work is mandatory, fifty miles away from city center and evict homeless to those places.
