4:04 this is different from where I live. These are found somewhere in either Europe or Alaska. But these berries that look like tiny red peppers are commonly found in Minnesota or Wisconsin
Thank you for reminding me. Five of those grow in my city yard. I have a new housemate & her daughter is 6 years old. She needs to be taught what not to eat.
Not exactly true on the Pokeweed. Yeah all parts are poisonous, but the leaves boiled are fine, and even come in mixed greens. The berries main poisonous parts are the seeds in them. Pokeberry is used in jams, jellies, preserves, and of course pokeberry pie. It is illadvised to eat one right off the plant. The toxins in toxic plants vary. One or two berries might be fine from one plant, but a single berry from another might just make you sick.
Most of them have similar shapes and sizes. Avoiding the colors.. red, white, blue. Taste test is usually a fair 4:42 warning. Spit and rinse immediately.Bittersweet is dead giveaway. Oleander.. add that to the list… They are common ornamentals.I wonder how many kids eat wreaths with Holly berries? Eek.
You are taking chances by doing so. Several poison controls have fielded calls from people who have eaten small amounts of pokeberries and experienced pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Hey there! Thank you from the literally opposite side of the world. I have to learn those in my native language now😂 some of the names are completely innocent, yet a few are just vocal. Alas, they don't have badges or IDs in the wild. Uneatable mushrooms soon, maybe?
