God ask so little of us, and Lot's wife , God offered her Eternal Life with him and he told her "not"to look back ,yet she did not listen and turned to look,and then paid the price for her disobedience.
Here’s your answer: Salt was a symbol of purity and preservation. Lot’s wife looked back in longing for their old (corrupt) home, it wasn’t just that she looked back, it was what was in her heart. God turned her into a pillar of salt to make the point that she should have been pure and she should have preserved God’s love and not a longing for evil. He turned her into a pillar of salt because she was not a pillar of salt metaphorically speaking.
The Hebrew is worth looking at as salt and war. Melah salt and milchama war. The latter comes from laham which means to wage war and to eat. It is part of the word Bethlehem.
