  • Well this is the biggest job I’ve taken on so far. It was 4,100 sq. ft. Of low rib steel. About 3,000 lbs of metal lol the job certainly had its challenges with scheduling and execution as does every big job. But I had a lot of fun doing it and I think it turned out well.

    Loved the horses running at the end. The roof looked like it would be hard because of the curve. Superb job!!!

    You don’t just do a job - you do it right. As always, I like the heights and the scenery. The part with the horses is great.

    I liked the intercutting between drone, cell phone and gopro to show the scope of the job. Getting to see horses and the Canadian landscape was an added bonus.

    I want to do my curved Quonset roof. I didn’t know that the steel roof sheathing would bend with the roof contour. I really thought the ribs would make it kink. I’ve seen them put the roof tin on horizontally.

    Hi Austin, I went to the Vicwest website, can you confirm that you used the Barnmaster 32" wide? Also, how long were your panels? Looked like 30 feet? What size hole did you predrill? Have you done another Quansit Hut Roof and did you use 2 panels instead of one like you mentioned? Unfortunately Vicwest does not sell this "agricultural panel" in the USA. Do you happen to know of a US based manufacturer that has a flat stock metal that is bendable like Barnmaster? or another Canadian mfg that may ship to the US? I am trying to redo a barn for my daughters wedding reception in August, so a quick reply would be much appreciated. Thank you, Jon

    That came out nice! Not suprized the shingles didn't hold up, I've even seen interlocks blown off of a quonset . . . those wide ladders look nice, they can be used as scaffold too?

    • @AustinTischler
      @AustinTischler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I bought 2 of them and an extendable plank they work really good for scaffolding

    Where did you get the metal panels from and what rib design is it? I don't have one like this that I can find in my area.

  • @OldWurlitzerMusic
    @OldWurlitzerMusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    they are the new style tab design , witch they recommend for the higher wind rating , looks like a bad batch for sticking or and what season they installed them ? , the new tar on tabs is more elastic rubber than the old tar dots , the new stuff is really tacky and the tabs are more strong , the old 3 tab are a thing of the past soon also

    • @AustinTischler
      @AustinTischler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it is VERY windy out there and no protection from the wind either. I was told the roof was put on in the summer so my guess is it just got too windy. Shingles are a bad idea on a quonset unless they are t-locks; they stopped making them about 20 years ago, probably because they were too good lol

    • @OldWurlitzerMusic
      @OldWurlitzerMusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AustinTischler ya the wind seemed to hit that one section the most ,the angle ... also the old diamond pattern asphalt shingles from the 1930's did well also , ive seen them last close to 50 years on my grandpas house , the new roof looks like it should hold up now , great job !

    I’m sure the snow beads right off the next day? And previously the snow accumulated on? I want to build a S or Q Quonset in norther Washington as an aircraft hangar. Worried about snow accumulation on the stock Quonset roof. Can get heavy fast. Let me know if your metal roof panels shed the snow fast. Thanks.

    • @AustinTischler
      @AustinTischler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the snow always melts off faster on metal, mainly because it slides off even when it gets a little bit sunny out, especially on the darker colours

    Have you thought about using a microphone windscreen for better audio? You would be much better understandable out in the windy areas.

    • @AustinTischler
      @AustinTischler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to sound lazy but I just don’t have the time to set all that up. I tried a plug in microphone with a wind sock but it’s so windy here it really doesn’t make that much of a difference

  • @nickdobbs5128

    What type of panels are those? Thickness, rib profile, looks predrilled?

    • @AustinTischler
      @AustinTischler  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are 29 gauge low rib panels, and yes I pre drilled them off cameras

  • @billcampbell6857

    So are the sheets too heavy to bring over two at a time? Half the trips back to the trailer.

    • @AustinTischler
      @AustinTischler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      More awkward than heavy. If I brought 2 over the second one would just get scratched up as I lift the first one on to the roof

  • @regan3058
    @regan3058 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey man, did you have any trouble with the sheets wanting to kink? Have the same roof to do and was worried about the sheets contouring to the shape of the roof.

    • @AustinTischler
      @AustinTischler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the low rib there wasn’t any kinking it contoured the building very nicely. I imagine regular 7/8 rib profile would be a different story lol
