    I see that this video is 7 yrs old so I’m not sure you will even see this but I searched how to draw a room in 2 point perspective. I watched at least 6 or 7 that were totally silent (except for the poor music selections). I was starting to think I had a defect. But with you actually explaining things it seemed so obvious and easy. Thank you so much. I just wanted to draw my craft room to check the furniture placement and get a better idea of whether or not it would be what I wanted. Long story short, thank you. Your video was perfect. I have enough confidence to give it another shot. Lol. Thanks again. ❤

    One of the person who has the patience and honesty to show her skill. I have seen lot of videos on you tube on perspective drawing and they were missing steps, fast forwarding, timelapsing. They just want to promote their channel and draw users to purchase their course for full lesson or draw user to support them on paetreon.
    Thank you ma'am for sharing this.

    Thank you for taking the time to teach. It is a very generous gift. I'm trying to teach myself how to draw after 50 years of doodling and wishing I could draw. I really enjoyed this exercise. Perspective , for me, is one of those things I have to see done or do myself to really get it.
    Now I'm having fun shading in some cushions and pictures on the walls and a circular, floating , bb8 type droid coming down the stairs into the room.

    Hey Dianne-You''RE a great High School Art Instructor as I'm a college graduate and I'M currently working on a 2point perspective sketch drawing on a 8 1/2"X11" Typing Paper of my Percussion Idea Invention that I'VE been thinking about since 1983 when I first got out of college and I couldn't find any work around The Springs and I was going through some very difficult things personally and I told my Dad about my idea since he got me started on the drums and he was a big band drummer and he gave me a lot of encouragement and told me to pursue drawing out my idea and then get all of the materials to build my percussion invention and your 2 point perspective drawing instruction is helping me on a daily basis to accomplish what I need to know about drawing out my idea as I've already finished my 2 point perspective drawing with a black pen from my job on 8 1/2"X11" graph paper and will make copies that I'LL send to The U.S.Patent Office when this National Crisis slows down and there's somebody in that particular office so that I know how much material they will require for the patent process to begin so that I can eventually get the patent that I want and Thank-You for your excellent 2Point Perspective instruction and I think you do a great job of explaining you Vanishing Lines and Vanishing Points then any of the rest of these instructors here on You Tube.Thank-You MAM and great job with these 2 videos of the Entertainment Center in the basement of the house and the simple 2Point Perspective 1 Story House with the outdoor pool and privacy fence in the backyard.Leighton R.Hogue KE0TPN.

    What a great tutorial. I took an art class at the local community center hoping to get practical advise on perspective. The volunteer teacher, although she was good at drawing, was not a very good teacher. She basically said perspective was in your eye and you either had it or you didn't. While I enjoyed the community center class I learned more in your 25 minute presentation than I did attending the 15 hour class. I know it been 4 years now but thanks for posting.

      Thank you so much for the kind words! It is sometimes difficult to transfer an ability for art into teachable units! The teacher really has to break it down for the student. For example, I can teach drawing and ceramics much easier than teaching painting.
      Most art teachers, including me, believe that anyone can learn the skills necessary to draw. I figure that if I can have success with hostile teenagers, anyone can learn!! Thanks again.

    I’ve taught this technique to my grade 5/6 classes. I only used above the horizon for simplicity. They absolutely loved it because they had a perfect technical drawing. They did it on newspaper one year and we ended up with a newspaper city. For those who struggled with it I used an elastic on the horizon line and worked with them one to one. After the more able students had finished they helped the others. I wish I’d taken a photo of our city. It took a LOT of organising beforehand to make sure each piece had a place in a line to keep our perspective. They shaded appropriately so that it looked brilliant. We put it in the foyer where it got a lot of attention from visitors. Thank you for explaining everything step by step. Students could look at it and pause it on the iPads if they needed to consolidate what they needed to do.

    A dedicated desk or drawing board for this would have the two points outside your page, marked with thin nails to give your straight-edge a definite stop. Then you would just need corner clamps to hold your work in place, and it would all be very easy.

    • @dianewoodsartlessonchannel2229
      @dianewoodsartlessonchannel2229  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good idea! Unfortunately, not doable in my classroom. As students became more advanced, I had them use a strip of mat board attached to a portable drawing board. This way the points could be off the picture plane and more realistic. The nail idea would be very cool for an at home studio.

    With your practiced eye you're guessing the distance between your vertical lines. Is that correct? So if a person wanted, they could mark off the points on the first perspective line for the floor, perhaps an inch apart, and use a t-square to accurately draw the vertical lines. I'm asking in case someone doesn't understand that there never has to be any guesswork involved until you've advanced to the stage of using artistic skills to draw the room.

    • @dianewoodsartlessonchannel2229
      @dianewoodsartlessonchannel2229  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. I am not a technical nor a mathematical person, so I do eyeball it. You brought up a good point; some people would be much more
      comfortable measuring everything. I gave my students the option to do it either way.

    The floor tiles width needs to be drawn wider as they become closer to the vanishing points. Narrower toward the corner of the wall.

    You didn’t show us how you determine the tile and stairs dimensions.
    Basically, you start measuring from the center/the corner of the room and mark the dimension of the first tiles (left and right) let’s say 2cm. From there, just use the perspective points until all tiles are drawn. Same principles go for the door, window, stairs.

      This is addressed in a previous thread. I am not technical nor mathematical, so I judge according to visual cues. My expertise is in fine art, not technical drawing. I like your method, however. It will be very helpful to those who don't feel comfortable "eyeballing" it. Thanks.
