The infected (zombies) in The Last of Us games have fungus growing in their brains which eventually starts to grow out of their heads & spread across the entire body making them either more easy or harder to kill depending on the mutation of the infected host. The 2nd stage (runners) & 3rd stage (stalkers) have heads that are softer & are easy to break, whereas the 4th stage (clickers), 4.5 stage (shamblers) & 5th stage (bloaters) have heads & bodies that are far more harder to break, especially with your bare hands, so a firearm or a high calibre is advisable
In The Last of Us, infected heads explode when Joel bashes them because the mutation makes their skulls much weaker. That's why infected skulls explode and human skulls don't.
I think that should only apply to clickers and stalkers though. Those are the only infected that have been infected long enough that the growth has completely covered their heads. Runners have the same insides as a normal person. And I think not being able to squish people's heads might have been a censorship issues
Cameron: "People *ARE* animals." Damn straight we are! Jordan: "I get people all the time that come to the ER where they've been shot like 8 times and they're still okay, 'relatively alright.'" Yep, a caliber and a human's body works in so many unusual ways.
Cameron is probably my favorite cross-expert co-host (not to imply the other experts aren’t stellar, either). He always asks great questions and has really good chemistry with whoever he’s paired with.
To break the average human neck it requires twice the force as the average weight of the human (approximately) so if its like a fit 400 pound powerlifter he may have the potential to break the neck of someone a quarter his size. Even then just casually flicking the neck to the left or right wont do the job.
It depends on the angle, leverage and if the muscles are actively resisting. If someone is already KO, it will definitely be easier, but still not easy...
Yes, and I think most games show the coming up from behind as choking the person out rather than breaking their neck. It would be much easier to kill someone via strangulation than neck breaking.
A hyena's bite is so much more forceful than a dog's. They're what we call "bone-crushers." They eat the hooves, bones, and even the horns of carrion. If a hyena bites you, flesh is coming off and bones are shattering. A dog can break bones too, but the difference in power and size is huge.
I've heard from various martial arts instructors that there aren't winners in CQC fights, especially ones with knives. There are survivors, but you've both lost if you've needed to get to that point
"Talon knife" it's a karambit, as far as I can tell, and that's actually for your index finger not your thumb, since you're generally supposed to hold it reverse grip with the blade. Someone who's good with a karambit is utterly terrifying in CQC
Just a point to note: in TLOU I and II, it's only the infected that get their heads smushed in from melee attacks like that. The normal humans still have "max integrity" in regards to their bone strength. Little attention to detail that ND put into the games.
Can we get like a mix of The Doc, Martial Artists, & Sword Masters react & recreate the For Honor Executions? You could literally just do one faction at a time. I know some of it's hella unrealistic but be cool either way.
One thing I kind of always wondered, is I've commonly had the 'headcanon' that in zombie games, some process of decomposition/fungification (in Last of Us' case) would make much of the body more weak. But at least in traditional decomposition, there's no way that really happens with _bone_ right? Unless it's a very, very long time? Mushrooms maybe, the fungus ending up spreading _through_ the bone and compromising the structure checks out with my surface-level knowledge of stuff.
@@EliFarb the clicker has a thick fungus head to keep him save. Look i don’t know if it’s the lore in tlou but in many cases zombies get weaker bones, peal of skin and are more like dead weight than strong.

@@g57d yeah of course, it's a game they have to keep some things unrealistic to keep it fun. I'm just saying it would make more sense for a clicker's head to be easily destroyed with one bullet rather then a couple because it's almost entirely fungus
The curve blade is called a Karambit. It originated from Indonesia and it is originally made from sharpened buffalo bone. It is not made for slicing but for stabbing the neck.
You know what? This is more of a lesson in school rather than a reaction and I love that stuff it teaches you not only how to defend yourself, but what could be severe and what could not!
In regards to punching someone in the mouth my father actually indirectly died because he did this. He was a police officer trying to get a drunk repeat offender in the car and punched him in the mouth to get him in the car which worked although he cut his hand on the guys teeth causing it to get infected which likely would have resulted in it needing to be amputated worst case had he not died in a car accident due to medicine for his said injury making him fall asleep occasionally on his way to an appointment for the hand. So yeah definitely don't punch someone in the mouth it could very well be the death of you.
and with the neck snapping thing, you can easily tear tendons and ligaments in someone's neck if you jerk it with about 20 to 30 Gs, or more, of force. Which is doable if you're strong, or using tools or points of leverage. You can also break the vertebrae and even damage the spinal cord if enough force is exerted.
Karambit is known as among one of 'Silat' deadly weapon and people still using it on street fight till this day. You barely can see that small curve blade hiding between their hand, until it was too late though. Those curve blade originally was design as a weapon meant for woman to protect themself just in case if something bad happen to them certainly.

9:42, you're very correct about that. I lost track of how many times when I was deployed that we got a call to the TOC (Tactical Operations Center) from the Iraqi Police Station that a local national was WIA ( Wounded in Action) and that they suffered a gunshot wound to the head. And most of the time it was a 9mm pistol that was used.
6:50 I'd imagine you get so many blunt force assault cases coming in over bladed assaults because people think "oh if I hit them with something blunt they wont die so its less severe", though, obviously, a hammer to the head can be just as deadly as a knife
Something that I actually want to mention is that it technically is possible to die from getting punched straight in the face. Right above our nose is a pressure point that, if it gets triggered, will cause someone’s brain to go unconscious. If that pressure point receives too much pressure all at once it’ll actually cause the entire brain(or at least most of the brain) to pretty much “shut down” temporarily. This can be lethal due to the fact that since the brain is shut down it’s not sending any kind signals to the major parts of the body during this time such as the lungs, heart, etc. This isn’t always the case though since the process is temporary, but since there’s no exact amount of time that this will go on for you would pretty much be in fate’s hands at that point.
My mans describing the slicing of legs really made me uneasy. I’ve had too many leg injuries in my life and I’m very protective of them, even hearing about leg damage makes me wanna fetal up and disappear
I would like to point out that if you see someone getting struck in the back of the neck with a gun in a video game, it’s likely they were actually struck more towards the middle of the shoulder blades, as it’s likely to be mocapped to some capacity, and they’re trying to avoid injuring the actor. Afterwards they edit it to make it look more like they hit upwards, but the neck is about as high as they can go without it looking janky. A proper execution of that technique is slamming someone in the back of the head with the butt of a gun, as that should at the very least disorient whoever you just struck, and more often than not should induce temporary unconsciousness via blunt force trauma.
There was a suspect in a strange murder case, wasn't responding to questions, seemed uncooperative and wasn't giving consistent information. He kept complaining about his head hurting: turned out he got shot in the face, twice, at near-contact range. Then the police realized that he was a victim not the perpetrator, and they got him some help...
One of the reasons they cut behind the thigh, if they cut deep enough, they wouldn't be able to use that leg that well at all so you don't give them the chance to get away easily. They do the same thing in martial arts where they will punch really hard right there. As for the scenes from the last of us and head stomping, to be fair, those are decaying bodies and who knows for how long. It would be easier to do I'd assume compared to a completely healthy person, idk if it would still be like in the game but a decaying body is easier to fall apart I'm thinking.
