usually u hear great artists give credit to a famous musician that inspired them or mentored them, but here, clark credits someone who isn't famous, who isn't a household name, a neighbor/classmate. great story. thanx 4 sharing. wish it had been longer.

It always starts with the blues. That's what lures you into the music, especially guitar. It's not in any beginner guitar book you'll ever read. But after learning your first chords, learn your pentatonic blues scales/major scales, then go relive the blues of history. It will surely make you a better player, trust me.

Living in Texas hearing about a black guy learning guitar from a white girl doesn't surprise me. Typical Austin stuff right there for you. Great city full of musicians of all races playing all kinds of music.

charles brown actually, "A musician is schooled in the blues by another musician" is the proper term. music has no gender and it has no race.

That's how it happened for me. Except it was my German friend Ben Kruse.
      First the bass then guitar.
There's a period in history where; unless you live in certain areas in the country, black youth DO not pick up guitars. We lost interest because of the culture traps we fall into. Luckily I grew up playing piano.
Eventually ended up in a band with a bunch of Zeppelin /Clutch heads.
