Hey Russ, First of all, glad to see you back with your videos. I was about to DM you to see if everything is going on well. And it's also a pleasure to see you coming back with some Zyliss vise upgrades. If you remember, I bought a Zyliss vise after you shared about it couple of years ago. It has been my vise of choice as well. Looking forward to your videos and more rambling as well 😆😆 Take Care & we are no where near done, Buddy !!
G'day Russ, I am also a senior citizen in Australia. I have often spoken about you to my other half and wondered where you got too. I was genuinly wondering if we would see you again, you are like an old friend. I always love your videos and your enthusiasm is fantastic. Since I saw you last I bought an xtool m1 Laser and am having a lot of fun with it. I actually caused a fire in it at the start due to lack of experience, but Iam better at it now. You caused me to buy a zylus vice some few years ago from New Zealand and it was expensive, but it has proven to be quite handy at times. It is fantastic to see you again and loved this Video. Hope you stay well and keep em comming. I am so happy you are back.
I just sat down with a cup of coffee turned on my iPad and you came up, just like having coffee with an old friend. Great to see you back have a great evening
Russ! I’m sooo glad to see you back! Love this video! I have a zyliss vise I inherited from my stepdad, and am looking forward to implementing some of these mods!
@@billtodd6745 I can't even remember how many or when. I suggest you watch all my videos again from the beginning and then you will find it :>). Really good to hear from you again.
I have 8 woodworking vises, and I use the Zyliss the most. I turned a large knob with a speed-bar for the screw and it's good for most purposes. I also glued thick leather to the jaws. But the best modification was done to the clamps. I drilled a 1/4" hole through the top of the clamps in line with the wing screws. Then I clamp the vise on the bench and drill into the benchtop through the holes, and then insert a 1/4" pin. This prevents creeping of the vise clamps.
Just a thought, drill holes in the clamps and then make a small pad with rug grip on underside and a dowel sticking out the top. Then the pad will hold to tabletop and the dowel will hold clamp in place. No holes need to be drilled in tabletop. You can still move the vise around without leaving holes. I use a "cheater" block that slips over the tightening wing on the clamp and that gives me extra torque to tighten clamp. I find it never moves when tightened this way. Hey Jon, I thought I saw a cheater block in one of the pics you sent me.
@@russveinot5754 I did make a cheetah like yours out of some nice maple I pulled out of the scrap bin. I gave it a teardrop shape to get some practice on the bandsaw and disc sander
Thanks Mark. I almost had to be retrained :>). BTW, I have not forgotten about your request to see details of my Oscillating Belt Sander dust collection. It will be out as one of the next 2 videos.
I was just thinking about you this morning and noticing how long it's been since the last video. Frankly, I was a bit concerned. Glad to see you again.
I’ve had mine( the complete system ) for about 30 years.i have the same snap ring pliers 6 pc since the early 80’s. Now I have three upgrades to make to my zyliss vise.
I really enjoy your videos. Just a thought, you could super glue the magnets to the roof of that hollow on the jaws instead of using the bar. You’d just need to double check the polarity and line it up. That way they won’t grow legs and dissapear. Thanks for posting.
NIce to have you back with your videos Russ!!! I thought that something happened, but I read that you just took some time off. Good to hear, everything is ok!!!
Good to see you back Russ and glad you like the knob!
Thanks Jon. Looking forward to any new improvements (or ideas) you get.
You had me at "photos of his knob" 😂😂😂 (couldn't resist, glad to see you back)
Good to hear from you, Mike.

Thanks Ashok. It's been a while, but I do remember we talked several times.

Hey Bill, thanks. I have a couple of past videos about the Zyliss vise.
Thanks Russ! I have seen at least one of your other videos on the zyliss vise but I’m not sure I’ve seen all of them!

Russ it was a delight to see your video in my notifications. I am glad you are back and look forward to more rambling! Cheers

I'm going to get some rug grip tape for the clamps and see how that works before drilling any holes but now I've got a backup plan!

Thanks, I always needed a solution to sometimes not being able to put my Zyliss vise on the end of a workbench.
Glad to hear it helped :>)
