      @@NuMBERNYC I followed your video and was able to change my valve cover gaskets and intake plenum gasket. Also the new pcv valve i bought same as yours was making a hissing sound so i put back the old one. At the end i broke one valve cover outer bolt but will have a welder get it out soon. Every other thing was successful thanks to your video.

    Thank you. Your video is very clear on direction and explanation of what and where. I have two vehicles with the 3.3L (07-Sonata and 08-Santa Fe) and while the dealership changed them both out they did a crappy job and they are leaking again.
    The Sonata had the alternator destroyed because the leak got to it and I don't want to go through that again so I'm going to have to do them myself since the mechanics at the dealership left bolts out, bolts loose, some hoses disconnected and broken plastic parts right and left in the engine compartment.
    About five years ago I stopped doing my own wrenching because I had to much stuff to do and not enough time but I cannot allow them to work on my stuff anymore since they have no pride in their workmanship.

      I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I completely understand, I also got taken advantage of at the dealership. They charge high prices on parts and charge a ridiculous fee on labor. They performed a poor job on my car years ago and I never went back. It might be time consuming if you do it yourself, but atleast you know you car is getting high maintenance on your time/hands. Our sonatas can last for a very long time if you keep up the maintenance. Best of luck Lost One! Cheers

    Did it take care of the oil leak not getting to alternator? I have to do this because my alternator went out because it was covered in oil.

    • @NuMBERNYC
      @NuMBERNYC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear Marco. Yes, if your alternator is covered in oil (depending for how long it was covered) it may be over. You may have to get new alternator. I had some oil on mine but it wasn't bad. The very first sign of oil leaking to the alternator would be that burning plastic smell. once you get the smell, you need to fix the leak asap. Best of luck, Marco

      I have an 07 with a 3.8L with 360,000 miles. My alternator gave out as I was driving. Thank God I live in a small town and there wasn't a lot of traffic. Has this happened 2 days earlier when I was in Detroit rush hour traffic people would have been seriously injured.
      The Azera is the only model they didn't issue a recall for on the gasket issue and even those who have the sonatas that were recalled had multiple failures even after having service done.
      I found that a lot of Hyundai vehicles from 2006- 2009 have gasket issues

    If you can't tackle this job you can use CRC Lectra motive or CRC lectra clean on your alternator with an oil pan under it. I stock up when 2 for 1. One to three cans can get the alternator brand new. I'm at 105k miles and have an upper valve leak for years and every few months I clean my alternator. My car runs at 14.4 but not with the 3600 watt system going. Cars been in the family since new and I've saved her many times.

    • @NuMBERNYC

    • @johne1605
      @johne1605 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I noticed the Lectra is not plastic safe. Have you had any problem spraying the alternator in the engine bay with it?

    • @johnonthecooldoe6338
      @johnonthecooldoe6338 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johne1605 job was easy, removing the chest plate with the o2 sensor [4 12mm or 14mm bolts] allowing the dipstick to be pushed 2in more out of the way. Do the idler pully, belt and tensioner while your'e there. I didn't remove the upper coolant hose but did use a bungee cord to act as a second set of hands to pull it out of the way. I cleaned everything to almost oem clean and used the black rtv sealant where the recalled gasket leaks. Then I used the rtv gasket to make a "gutter" so the oil which now that it's all clean leaks clean oil to the left of the alternator to the frame to the ground. To answer your question, it was the original 06 alternator and I used the crc lectra red can for over a decade (cold engine battery neg disconnect) and asked my wife to pick up 2 cans on the the way home form work. She said they were out of red cans but had heavy duty BLUE cans. The 18 year old oem alternator kicked the bucket 4 days later. I bought a new one for $130 with a no questions warranty for 1 replacement. Take what you will from my experience but a big can of red with the red straw would remove about 6-8 oz of oil into the pan underneath. Next time I'm going to aluminum jb weld the entire seam.

      @@johne1605 One last thing is that I kept the oem alt incase a friend or I get suckered into a core charge. The plastic 4 prong connector wasn't brittle, the tab pushed down to releases without breaking. Kinda funny that the plastic on the Tesla truck is so brittle that even looking at the cabin air filter release tabs will break them.

    Great video. Thank you for including my car Year 2007 HyundaI Sonata V6, so hard to find this info. I have oil leaking in my alternator, again! First in Dec. 2015 and replaced the alternator. And now, possibly, once again in May 2022 and my alternator is gunked up with dirt and oil. Is there a way to clean up the alternator. I dare not try to do it myself (of course) but hope to see my local mechanic, who is very honest & trustworthy to make the repair. I'm a hands-on kind of gal but this is a bit too involved for me. ☺️

    good afternoon friend, I have a hyundai sonata year 2006 3.3 v6, the problem it presents is that it takes time to start, you have to give it a long time or the second or third time it starts, and sometimes it starts fast and the accelerator is zero. • @NuMBERNYC

      If you are having a hard time to start, check how old your battery is, then check the starter relay (in the fuse box) see if it needs to be replaced. If it is good, then check your starter.
