You guys should check out mewithoutYou, sort of similar to La Dispute. Although they're a Christian band, listening to the majority of their music it's not overt in any way. And for the record I'm an atheist so if their message were pushy I wouldn't be recommending them. :P
I write/record on a awful/basic setup. Sometimes listen back and wonder how I came up with shit. I bet alot of guys in great bands do too. Especially when they can perform well live like this. Idk if you're into books, but "The Creative Act" by Rick Rubin is gold. For anyone/everyone. Humans are creative by nature. Just gotta tap into it... who knows where/what from. Within or from out, there's energy. Feeling. Power.
Lyrics: After sundown, before sleeping I am the worst of me, I am a mess of these Old themes and the murmur of half-dreams Whisper seductively and stage scenes It's fear fiction, these visions Caught somewhere between delusion and prophesy What I haven't done, what I've wanted to And what I fear you have becomes reality here Bright lights in the young night keep to the beat A classic party scene, crowded and interesting No love, no life, no history Just touch, just chemistry, just A roaring undercurrent simple and sensory Young bodies, warm skin, perfect symmetry and It's a moment, harmless, it's energy It's like medicine, it's self-discovery See, all the secrets I keep, why are they secrets? It's only temporary, that fleeting feeling of warmth Just a flash before the line gets blurry Between a longing for more than what the body wants now And what the body wants now more than anything? Was it integrity that kept my hands to myself Or just the thought of getting too far ahead of you? Was it that I got too tired of the consequence? Or was I just scared? I only know I never wanted to get left behind No pauses, not a second guess First a swaying then a stumble then a swagger They're just movements towards feeling It doesn't matter, neither hesitates to carry on a kind of energy Sweat and block out everything to Find every aperture and compel the animal parts Fan flames, taste fruit, taste bitter fruit Just trying to learn how all the wires in the body work Just trying to feel it out, it's like medicine Find the healing in whatever bed they end up in I want to feel it out, I want to know how it works I want to know if it was worth it to worry About the ghosts I feared would haunt the memory About the damage that I'm sure the fear has done to me now I want to know what it is in me that won't follow through Those nights the instinct takes a hold of me and pushes too Maybe it's only that I've never gotten over you Or am I still scared? I see the church steps, a vision Is there fiction in this one too? It's true, I've made a tale of it here Still, it's a little unclear who's been haunting who And time can be such a funny thing, always moving to the future Glorifying the past and amplifying the pain in frames and glass So was our touch half as sacred as I've made it seem Or just another fabrication of a half-dream? Just those chemicals, the adolescent love Just us trying to grasp onto meaning, onto a purpose Onto a sense that something spiritual releases when the feeling hits And when the feeling hits And in that moment sparks and harps play out A sweeping melody through fog and fantasy And in that moment there's an honesty instinctive and pure But it departs like it came, rapid and bearing no more Than fleeting ecstasy of natural harmony They fear the notes being played and try to sing along Don't be ashamed, be free to the feeling Don't be ashamed, keep feeling But find it: a body that makes sense I've felt it

Their sound is so different it used to give me a headache, but I'm pretty much obsessed with them lately. So many songs are so emotional and raw you can't help but make them personal. I relate to a lot of their music now more than when I was 18 and first heard them...
This band has had such a huge influence on me. I've been listening to them for only half a year, but their lyrics make me feel like I know them on a personal level. I learned more from La Dispute than from anyone else.

You people all have the same argument. "Omg you dont like how he sounds so you must like mainstream music!!!" Not exactly. Maybe they just dont like how he sounds because he sounds kinda whinny in some of their songs? I dig this track but in such small hands I just want to laugh at him. Oh yeah and beyonce is a wonderful singer
@@typhlosion566 lol it's just called an acquired taste I used to hate la dispute cause of the vocals but I've grown to love his vocals now that I'm older
I don't get why people don't like his voice. I'm a classically trained singer and he actually has a lot talent as far as choosing what times are and are not appropriate for strong breath support.
La Dispute blends post-hardcore and spoken word vocals. The frontman started out writing short stories and poetry before he was in the band. And yes, it is a derivative of screaming. Compare them to say Touché Amoré and you'll see how much just toning down the vocal distortion makes a difference. What I love is how diverse it is, changing from melodic to spoken to yelled/screamed vocals. The vocal technique is absolutely superb
I remember when I saw them the first time live at a small show in Ann Arbor, MI at the Sigma Phi Metal Frat. They were headlining, I bought a t-shirt and their album at the time. The reason why I loved the band so much, was because I previously went to a show and saw a similar band as theirs at the time. The band was called Thriller....and Jeremy Bolm was a backup vocals/guitarist. He is now the lead singer of Touche Amore. I love how Touche Amore and La Dispute end up doing a lot of tours together and making collabs.
+craig chmielinski I think live is better. You get a littler more tremor in his voice and acoustic sound of the instruments that make it that much better!
And this live recording is just perfect. This drum sound is just fucking amazing. So light and still retaining the attack and detail. It fits so well. The mix is perfect.
I love how some people feel the need to talk shit in the comment section. If you don't like it don't listen to it plain and simple. Go listen to whatever makes you happy as this does for me.
The guy at the end screaming "HELLS YEAH LA DISPUTE" is honestly me.

i love the singer his voice melts my ears. i love that it sounds like hes reading a poem instead of singing
My favorite thing about La Dispute, it seems more like a poetry reading with music playing in the background
slplessinmygrave Ive never heard a singer say so many words with so much meaning

Nasreen Moya he is not that good.
Marzz Glxy but like he's super tight and that's the best thing you could ask for
Not only that but he fits the music perfectly. That's what is so nice about his playing :)
That high hat control to start
I literally have no words to describe what La Dispute means to me and how I relate to their lyrics.
Thank you Jordan for existing.

they keep it raw and its just fucking perfect.
Their lyrics and musical abilities are perfect. Especially their song structures.
he might not be "singing" as most of you would expect vocals to sound, but talking/screaming in a specific tempo takes skill...

His voice is flawless
I dind't like this band the first time i heard it but i was so damn wrong they are one of my favorites bands. Those lyrics!
Just cause a vocalist doesn't sound like Beyonce doesn't mean they're bad and certainly does not mean that they don't know what they're doing.
