    Great video! Impressive that your computer was able to screen record your every move without hesitation. If you don't mind me asking: what program did you use to create this video?

      Thanks, Camtasia is what I use for screen recording and editing. OBS Studio can also be a good option for raw recording...

    How do you model using the point cloud model? How long does it take to create the Archicad model?

    • @CONTRABIM

      I usually setup a view that slices right though the point cloud at a specific range (2-3 ft) or (8-10ft for RCP), depending on the project. That way only the points are loaded onto that view making it faster and more efficient in Archicad. I then usually model in the walls while trying to keep dimensions nice and clean by paying attention to offsets from grids if available. Usually the process is pretty fast, depending on how much you're trying to model, and how complex it may be!

    This cloud still is still working pretty smooth for Archicad. Can you share your PC specs?

      Thanks for the comment. I have a Lenovo P51 laptop, about 6 years old now... with a Xeon processor, 64GBs ram, and Quadro 2200 4GB card.

    Impressive Work! How was this point cloud captured?

    • @CONTRABIM

      Thanks Jaren. I scanned with project with a Trimble TX8 scanner, and processed in Realworks. I've since started using the x7 scanner, which is smaller, lighter, and self leveling, making it a lot easier to capture roofs on a hot day... Thanks for the comment!

    I received a point cloud from a company that didn't have half the detail your model has. Is this a scan resolution issue?

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps! I did sample this point cloud down to about 1/4" spacing between points, as it was a large project and I wanted to minimize the file size, and maximize the performance when working in Archicad. Unfortunately I have not found a way to increase the size of the points, as they get displayed in Archicad. You could ask for a higher resolution point cloud if you can't make out the points, but try cutting some sections and plan cuts to highlight the scopes you're trying to model, and usually you can make due with even a low res point cloud! It helps to zoom out so the density looks more filled in also...then zoom back in once you see the picture:)

    Since my very beginning of working with point clouds in Archicad I've been struggling with clouds getting misaligned at import, so one would import at correct location and the others would be thrown centimerets or meters away from its expected location.
    We pre-process our point clouds from Leica scanners in Cloud Compare and export E57 files for Archicad.
    I've had this problem for many months and I'm sick with aligning clouds by hand.
    If anyone has had this issue as well and knows the solution, please let me know.

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. I've found in my experience that if you don't touch the point clouds at all upon import, and you import them onto the same story, at their original location, it can definitely help with the alignment. One step I will do, is setup a grid from Archicad and export to DWG to bring into the registration software, for aligning your point clouds to there first. That way when you export your points for importing to Archicad, there should not be an issue. The other thing to check is the default object settings, since importing point clouds creates an object. Check the elevation and rotation of your default settings prior to import may help with your issue!

    • @mipe7755
      @mipe7755 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CONTRABIM Thank you for the tip! Indeed, it seems that resetting object rotation in object settings makes the clouds aligned properly with each other, yet it doesn't guarantee correct coordinates, but I guess I can use some external references for that.

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mipe7755 Make sure when importing, that you are NOT specifying the insertion point manually, but using the coordinates from the imported point cloud. If you do happen to specify it manually, then make sure to click on the same point as the insertion for each cloud (likely the 0,0,0 coordinate on your ground story).

    Hello friend, if you need an archicad modeler or draftsman with point clouds I would love to be able to participate, I have 4 years of experience modeling buildings in archicad with point clouds, I also know how to use Trimble real works viewer and leady bug visualizer.
    Thanks a lot
