I'm relatively new to gaming. I started playing games last year, and my first intro to souls-like games, at the age of 50, was Lies of P. Then I picked up DS1 earlier this year, and now I'm playing DS2 SOTFS. I'm not particularly great at them but I do enjoy them. I thought DS1 was relatively easy in general compared to my experience with Lies of P, but I would say that I feel the levels are harder in DS, but bosses are easier. DS2 SOTFS, as I am playing as a sorcerer, I like the mechanic that they allow you to grind out enemies if you're finding an area particularly difficult to get through without running out of spells etc. I know people frown on things like that, but for someone newer to gaming, it's very helpful in allowing me to enjoy the game without being too frustrated. I'm going through Huntsman's Copse right now.
That's awesome! My wife and I are playing through all of the souls games chronologically and we're currently playing DS2 right now too. I've played them all before but she hasn't. I'm also running a sorcerer and she's a pyromancer/cleric. I couldn't agree more about grinding out enemies. It's a choice for the player to make and I like that it's there. Good luck with Huntsman's copse and onward! I hope the chariot doesn't give you too much trouble. 😁
@shaedric5733 I beat the chariot and the Coveteous demon. Now to finish Earthen Peak. I have gotten to a point that I do ok through most areas and don't get too discouraged if I lose enough souls for 2 levels 🤣 I just wish I could figure out how to turn off my wifi after I start the game. Npc invasions I do ok to, but I die every time to player invasions and that's where I get frustrated.
@@MakingLemonadeFromLemons Yeah that's where I get frustrated too. I have hundreds of hours in these games and I still suck at PvP. 😅 I think players can only invade you if you are in human mode (If your skin looks normal). If you are in hollow mode (your skin looks like a zombie's) all online stuff (invasions and co-op) should be disabled. To go into hollow mode, I think you just need to die once. And to go back into human mode you use a human effigy item or I think beating a boss also makes you human again. Hope that helps. We're co-op'ing the whole game so we're always in human mode. Thankfully we've gotten pretty good at teaming up against invaders though.
DS2 may not be the best soulsborne game, but it's still a great game. Love Aldia's questline and the reveal that Gwyn linking the flame was the first sin. Also "A LIE WILL REMAIN A LIE" is the hardest single piece of dialogue in the entire series.
I just played through SOTFS again and yea its honestly great, you gotta take DS2 slower imo and the areas/enemies are the bosses basically lol, I did everything but the horse fuck valley snowy DLC area lol
ds2 sotfs is my first dark souls game. and personally i find it very enjoyable. only a few locations was really annoying and frustrating like iron keep (worst location in the game. i still have nightmares about multiple armored katana dudes sprinting at me through the whole map) and shrine of Amana.
ds2 scholar was my 3rd souls game (bloodborne -> ds1 - ds2 scholar) & of the dark souls trilogy its still my personal favorite, i find it mechanically the most fun to play. i also think of the 3 it has the best story, too. when i first played it i expected to hate it because everyone else seems to, but truthfully you could give me an itemized list of everything worth hating & i dont think id understand. i dont even think its "good, but not at the standard ds1 created", i think its better than ds1 by a longshot & far more interesting than ds3. but ive been wrong before, im ok with having the wrong opinion.
Someone needs to steal Fume Knight, Sir Alonne & Darklurker fights and put them in better game. Nioh 2 kinda took Pursuer so its good enough for now. And Lies of P reused some stuff
I still cant understand how people geniunely says this is the best dark souls. Yeah its not that bad compared to industry. But it is definitely the worst souls of all. So many broken hitboxes. İframes tied to a stat. Crazy slow estus. Boss paths are insanely long and full of enemies. So many bullshit enemy placement for you to take damage just because you didnt know it is there before hand. Also so many bad bosses. Other than pursuer ı dont recall any good boss (besides dlc's ofc. DLC's are good). The only good thing it has is the combat tweaks they added which they also used in elden ring. But without the elden ring movement it really lacck of uses against enemies and bosses. So they only matter in PvP which I dont care.
I still don't understand how people like you genuinely believe them. I like ds3 more than ds2 but I'd rather play ds2 over ds3 simply because I have more places to go which also helps with build variety but the earlier fork you can encounter in ds3 is dancer which is a skill check in a game that's already not as explorable as ds2. I still like ds3 more but not how linear it is. When I watch a lets play, 90% of the players will fight vordt and go the same route for most of the game. My biggest issue with ds2 are its broken hitboxes, I can easily forgive everything else in the game but that, I'd hit a mimic chest, go behind it so I don't get caught in it's biting animation and put a chests worth of distance between us but I'd teleport in its mouth when it does its animation because some dev didn't care enough or even played their own game to know that that is actually unfair and a bug
