Life is NOT a Journey - Alan Watts

  • Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 - 16 November 1973) was a British philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known as an interpreter and populariser of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience. His philosophies seem to transcend ego, politics and limitations. His monologues have a powerful way of connecting distant abstract ideas with the present moment and his words have a unique way of putting life into perspective. Life is a gift.

Life is usually not what job you have, what field you get into career-wise, how great your title becomes. Life is somewhere in between. The songs you sing, the runs you run, the kites you fly, the people you laugh with, the stories you hear, the tales you tell to inspire, the dreams you have at night, the pets you adopt, the plant you finally managed to keep alive, the dinner that finally tasted good, the feeling of hopefulness, of gratitude, of amazement. Good point, but that song is called "I'm Only Sleeping". An even more cosmic Beatle song can be found on the same album (Revolver) -- it's called "Tomorrow Never Knows":
Turn off your mind, relax, and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying
Lay down all Thought, surrender to the Void
It is shining, it is shining
If you may see the meaning of within
It is Being, it is Being
That ignorance and hate they mourn the dead
It is Believing, it is Believing
That Love is all that Love is everyone
This is knowing, this is knowing
All plays the Game: "Existence" to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning, of the beginning...
Or even "I Am The Walrus":
I am He as you are He and you are me and we are all together.
Even John Lennon backed off writing: I am Him as you are Him, and you are me...etc.
I think "Elohim" originally meant "our Higher Selves"

But now I’m in my 30’s I’ve realised I don’t think I ever really wanted to travel i just said that because that’s what I thought success was. I just enjoy a simple homely life, it’s taken me all these years and videos like this for me to accept myself for exactly who I am and realise it’s okay to live a simple life. If you don’t travel or earn a lot of money like society says you have to now it’s okay, just do what ever you want to do, there is no race or competition. the thing is, for me, living alone or maybe with some pets, and good headphones, and just a small, comfortable house near a lot of grass and trees, just a lot of nature, would be the peak of my life, people take it the wrong way when someone says live how you want, they usually go for your approach, travelling a lot and doing stuff like sky diving, thinking it's the only way to live, of course, you're probably very happy with what you did, it most likely was exactly what you wanted , and from your words it seems like so, but people think doing stuff like that will make them happy when in reality they can't even appreciate their hometown, so they go to places like japan, they look at a building and some peach blossoms and they think they saw everything there is to see when in reality they barely looked at the surface, and their hometown's maple trees would be beautiful to japanese people, what im trying to say in this bible i just realized i typed is, people think doing what you did is perfect for everyone, when in reality, only a couple of people in thousands really truly enjoy it, also, camping seems fun!

Alan Watts has an incredible way of putting life into perspective. The second I heard this speech, I knew it had to be an animation. My goal was to enhance his message with art. I tried a slightly different style for this one. Let me know what you think. These animations typically take over 100 hours to create. It would mean a lot if you could support this channel by subscribing. Thank you!

Afterwards there was a few months window where I could meditate and pray and ask the universe questions that I could hear the answer to. Never do they stop to reflect on what this kind of parenting does to their kids. As was pointed out in schooloflife, this leads to an impression that love is no more deserved than the sum of ones achievements. They become desperate to please and impress others, and ultimately miserable when they don't recieve the admiration and love they feel that they have earned.

Then you’re stuck with more debt. Bad cycle we’re in. Life itself, yes, but one still does have to "make a living" do to food, clean water, elec, internet, shelter, etc not being free. The issue of learning how to survive or make a living is something that can be solved. From there, ethics would be introduced, as some ways which are illegal may be an easier way to make money, but they're sketchy. Or one may make great gains, but at the expense of others. Therein lies some of the complexities

Why do you think so many young people love the idea of socialism? They’re literally pushing it through the education system. Not to mention you can’t even teach based off eye witness or experience. Example. Have you asked any kids today about 9/11? When it’s taught in school the teachers are only allowed to talk about what’s in the book. Not allowed to speak on what they saw. It’s censoring kids from reality. So there for modeling how they want the child to think. Government does not want a mass of people thinking for themselves. They’d be out of work.
