Yeah, I listened with headphones. I gotta give it to the Squier on this one. I like the thicker, richer sound of it. Were the eq's identical?

Gregg Johnson Hi there! Thx a lot for watching and commenting! The EQ on the preamp (EBS MicroBass II with an EBS MultiComp) was set exactly the same. All the best!

Choosing between D'Addario chromes and TI flats is like asking one to pick who your favourite child is.

I always enjoy very much of what you play out of these nice basses (the Squier CV 60s is always impressive). But I have to say on this particulary jam, I can't hear the basses very much. Is it meant to be like that? Thank you!

Instantly Ectobassma Hi there! In this jam, I’ve tried to create a somewhat „realistic“ mix, with the bass not being in the foreground, just as you would find it in a typical pop production. You might want to listen to it through HQ speakers or headphones, then the growly deep tone of the P-Basses can be heard and „felt“ quite nicely... ;-) Thx a lot for commenting! All the best!

It seems to me that squiers almost have a more muddy/ “boomy” sound, while fenders have a bit more articulation.

The 70s bass is perceived much more 'present' in the mix. Both glorious. I love a P Bass. Thank you.

buddybeetle Yeah! That’s mostly due to the „brighter“ D‘Addario Chromes and the EMG GZR pu in the 75 P. I love both, and I consider the Squier with the Thomastiks to be the more versatile instrument. But the 75 P is may main instrument! Thx a lot for watching and commenting! :-)

Did you change the bridge on the Squier? I’ve heard the vintage saddles can be a bit crap out of the box with the CV range so many end up getting a Hi Mass or Gotoh IV

Both sound great but the Thomastik strings sound like they'd disappear on stage. I might be wrong though.

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thx a lot, bro! But be assured, due to their superb midrange response, they sit in the mix effortlessly and just perfectly, especially on a P-Bass! Pimo Palladino plays his 62 P (strung with these very strings) in pretty much any band, playing so many different styles... ;-)
All the best, stay safe and healthy!

@@MichaelSchmittEleven i was about to comment. I remembered that what sounds good on stage often doesn't sound good on its own and vice versa. Fantastic playing. Stay gesund my friend!

Hi Michael, I love the TI flats on the Squire. Have you tried them on the Fender yet instead of the Chromes? Also, in this video are you still using the geezer butler pickup in the Fender? (your review video for these is still my go to when recommending replacement P-pickups to others)

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven

Hi there! Thx a lot for commenting! I haven´t tried the Thomastik on the Fender P-Bass yet, only some Roundwounds, which sounded killer! ;-)
I love the Chromes´ bite, which goes very well with the more "agressive" punch of the 70s P-Basses! All the best!

The Squier wins due Thomastiks. Interesting what of a difference strings can make.

maple vs rosewood fingerboard? not a fair comparison. The Fender has a much wider freq response. More low end, more mids, more high mids, even with maple fingerboard. Nice playing. Bravo.
