That’s the only way - other than a pooping cork from a boat - to catch fish from shore. Did that for 35 years in Texas. Took it to Oregon and worked well there. Some others fishing asked how I was catching. Showed the setup and they rerigged and started catching.

My family is moving to Florida and I have only ever freshwater fished and never fished much anyways because I found it very boring especially since I only ever caught rock bass(just got some bad luck), but my stepdad has told my and my brother that saltwater fishing is less boring, so I want to do some research to get a head start on my brother who was always more into fishing then me.

Use the belly meat of most salt water fish as bait. The skin on the outside and membrane on the inside of the belly holds it on the hook really good. Aku belly is my favorite.

I've never gotten tired of catching fish until i met the hard head catfish. They are relentless endless and have a hell of a sting.

That rig would be back on the beach in about 2 mins where I live
Then put a bigger weight. Problem solved . This is just what we use when it’s calm around here. If the waves are ripping we use bigger spider weights

That weight is good for low tide sure. But if the surf is rough in Texas that’s not gonna stay put at all.
Double rig and use pink red or yellow yarn about 3” just give it some movement once u catch fish switched to that color
