@TetaRosie I am proud to be Macedonian! My baba (born 1916) was from Buf and my dedo (1909) was from Statisa (I think it is "Drama" now). These were my mother's parents (my mother was born in Toronto). I was raised by them and heard all about what happened at the hands of the Greeks. It is sad when here in Canada most deny their Macedonian ancestry.

Poor adz edessa who really has a mixed Hebrew/Jewish/Turkish name (and obviously very confused about his origins) pretends not to know that the Greeks were also communists. Sad boy.
Nor does he admit that the fascistic Greek government forced Greek names on all the ethnicities living in Greece (a country made up of multiple ethnicities). They even banned the Macedonian language, even in the music, until Human Rights groups such as Amnesty International stepped in to restore a little justice.

In fact, Macedonian music is so beautiful that the Hellenised Albanians and Turkish Pontians (who make up most of the Neo Greek population) love it, too. A pity they banned the lyrics a while back but luckily, Amnesty International stepped in, and now Neo Greeks are claiming the music as their own. A case of if you can't beat them, join them - in a perverted way.

Love the music! I have a question that someone in this group may be able to answer. Both of my parents are from Aegean Macedonia, there village is very close to Larin. At close family weddings, my dad would always request a song from the band, probably 30 years ago now. At the time, I didn't pay close attention to the name of the song, but all i can remember is that my dad would get very emotional - it had the lyrics - dekay moyta mayka (where is my mother) in it (please excuse the phonetic translation). My dad has since passed and I have been wanting to hear the song, but have no idea the title of it. Anyone know what I'm referring to ? Thank you :)

There are several versions of it on youtube. I used to play for many years in a Macedonian band and this was always a big hit for the folks from Agean Macedonia.

I, as a Bulgarian, too don't honour what the organisation did to Turks, Greeks, and Bulgarians as well, even though my ancestors had been forced to immigrate from their village by the Greek armed propaganda units. What people should know about the region of Macedonia is that it was, in essence, soaked in the blood of many innocent and not-so innocent people. It was a meatgrinder...

The problem with greece is that the nation "greek/greece" did not exist in the time of Alexander, neither in the 12th century, for example nor, let's say, in the 17th century. The French/German Romanticism Poets and historians invented the concept"greece" as well as your flag.Even your first king,Otto of Wittelsbach was Bavarian, a non -greek ruled over you, as well as Alexandar of Macedon. The modern greek state was created by the London Protocol in 1830 in order to oppose the Ottoman conquest

Yes Paul Matras, that was the name given to this dance by Sime Kostadinof when he started the first folk dancing group in the area of Florina (Lerin for the Macedonians) in the 1950's. But he was not allowed to use the original names of the dances. So he renamed them all. The greek name for the village of Armensko is Alona, hence, Aloniotikos became the greek name of Armenskoto oro that was the most popular in the village.

Read your history books guys - the real Macedonia dates back to ancient Macedon which is now known as Aegean Macedonia (the capital being Thessaloniki), and it contained an ethnically Greek majority.
The name Macedonia is related to the ancient Greek word Makednos. It is commonly explained as having originally meant 'a tall one' or 'highlander', which is descriptive of the people.
The Slavic Macedonians of today are just ethnopolitically disoriented Bulgarians.

Exarchists who immigrated to the West in the early 20th century founded Bulgarian-Macedonian churches and Bulgarian social institutions, most notably the MPO. Their descendants today still consider themselves of Bulgarian descent. There were also never any "ethnic Macedonian" representatives in the Ottoman parliament. If "ethnic Macedonians" were supposedly such a huge part of the population, how on Earth could that be possible?
