My best friend of 42 years died before President Obama legalized Gay Marriage. He was a gay man. So when it wS announced that day I was so happy when I got home I ran to my next door neighbors house (they were on porch) they were Lesbians. I yelled out "what do you call Gay Marriage now?" They asked what and I yelled "Marriage!!!!". I think I yelled in hopes that Bill heard.
I hope my future husband is as sweet and creative as Thomas when it comes to getting engaged. Also, how awesome is it that future generations are able to see this and realize this is a possibility for them?
Your story of your both engagements and how the both of you proposed to each other twice were very emotional for me which brought tears of happiness to me and for the both of you. I am so happy that the both of you were able to reconcile after your four month breakup and get married. A sign of a very strong and loving relationship is when two people in love can overcome the difficulties and problems and go on to the next step to make their relationship stronger. It shows in your relationship that love won and that the both of you have a very loving marriage. Wonderful and inspiring....and just a bit tearful for those like me who are (currently) alone, lonely and unhappy. My take away is that we all have low times in our lives (your breakup); and when we work through them we can achieve more than we believe possible. Thanks for the gift of hope!
Same-sex relationship here. My wife & I will celebrate 20 years together next year. Marriage wasn’t an option when we were first knowing we wanted that commitment. We did the civil union & went about life....buying a house, having kids, etc. When marriage became recognized, I wanted no part of it. I think I was bitter that we had to wait for years to get what heterosexual couples had. And then one day i just shrugged and said let’s do this. So we did get married at the courthouse with our 12 year old sons there, and my amazing cousin who was our witness. And we then went about life again. But.....honestly, I wish there had been a romantic proposal. I wish we had had those memories & pictures. So you’re right.....it’s something special that should be experienced. As a died-in-the-wool hard-core romantic myself it does my heart good to see these videos where you just sit down and share important moments in your evolving lives together. This vlogs are fun to watch, but these touch my heart deeply. Since you continually ask for suggestions: I watched your break-up video a few times and found it really moving. But what I never quite got was the thought process that led to a firm decision to make a genuinely permanent commitment for the duration. I’m a romantic at heart, if a realist in practice, and have longed for that kind of bond ever since I realized I’m gay...but it’s incredibly hard to find other gay guys who will even entertain the idea of such a relationship. (Almost immeasurably more difficult than in the straight world where I lived before I realized who I am.) Consequently talking with them...all of them good, nice, kind people, invariably hits an impenetrable wall if the time we spend together naturally begins to draw us close enough that romance might bloom. (this can’t be rushed or forced: either it happens in due time or it doesn’t. But I don’t see how it can if one (or worse) both guys have such elaborate defenses that the wall can’t be breached I’ve read a lot &talked to therapists about why they think this typifies most gay en...but what’s the point of our hard -won freedom to love who ever we choose if, when it’s a guy, love is blocked out of even possibility. I hope you can enlighten me, as really don’t understand it & it’s gradually leeching the joy and pride out of being openly gay. I’d love to know if this was an issue between you two at any point and if so, how you dealt with it. I’m not quite at the point of despair and throwing in the towel, but it seems all but impossible to find a guy who wants a mutually lovingly, supportive, honest relationship like the one you seem to have. Any way you could address this in a sit-down video would sure enlighten me and other like minded guys out there, if in fact there are any but me. Love you both. And thanks!

The more I attended events or locations such as our one & only gay bar where I live (and the more I read & listened to learn about this quite different culture) the more I realized that, in addition to not really knowing what I'm doing, I'm at a disadvantage that was never a thing in the straight world: my (chronological) age. (Mentally & in every other way I'm decades younger, which may be why it never matted & dating women came naturally & reasonably often & many times, as we got to know one another, we became close friends or, once in a while, more). The gay community, on the other hand, seems fixated on younger men (below, say, 30? 40?) so this automatically creates an apparently impenetrable barrier to even getting to know gay men casually, let alone dating anyone or developing any kind of relationship. (If you can't even get to know one another casually, how do you find out what one another is like as a human being?) Beats me what to do about this: I can't change my age and I can't change the culture... Well (in the immortal words of one of the worst Prime Ministers Australia has ever had, "Life wasn't meant to be easy." Thanks again...

Guys, I wish that I had thought about dual proposal 13 years ago when my hubby proposed to me, especially after having seen this video and Zach and Evan's videos about their engagements. It is such a great idea; we are equals in the relationship and as such, each deserves to has his or her own proposal. I think that we need to talk about this concept more within the LGBTQ2S community so that we can add our own tradition to the age old institute of marriage. My close friend Tim officiated at your wedding. He and I used to have lunch every week at yummies (now the city cafe) I remember him describing at lunch you two and how deeply in love you seemed to be. Most importantly he described how you seemed s comfortable with each other and with being gay. He feels many of the gay couples he marries are emotionally damaged by society and are not as comfortable as you two seem to be. Since I am a therapist he likes to bounce his observations off me.
I loved this video. I know I keep telling you that but you guys are getting so good at making interesting videos and I keep enjoying them. Thomas was so sweet to make it as romantic as possible when you proposed to PJ. Just you talking about it made me get tears in my eyes. It's also really sweet that PJ proposed too. I never really got proposed to. My husband and I just started talking about getting married and decided to do it. We told our parents, talked to the minister and got married in the living room of the house that we rented together. So there was no proposal, no engagement, but there definitely was a wedding!
