The 'knife angel' removing weapons from British streets

  • Last week we looked at the growing crisis on our streets, with 2021 on course to become one of the worst on record for teenage homicides. Years of interventions and official initiatives seem to be making little impact, with 18 young people having been stabbed to death in London so far this year.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
We have been out with one community organisation, run by a man whose own experience of being stabbed has led him to try to rid the streets of knives.

I think sentencing needs to be sorted as well. Hurt someone with a knife you get 15 to 20 years. Kill someone and you are done. Minimum 30 years. Friend of mine was killed in Hull when we were 16, his killer is out now less than 20 years later. Living on the other side of town to me with a girlfriend and a 2 year old daughter. He should be caged up with the rest of the animals. 16 years for killing a boy who only lived that long himself. Itd almost be funny.

There was a time in my adolescence that I was constantly verbally and physically attacked because of how I looked and some of these people I witnessed did have knives on them. I felt terrified to leave the house and remember on few occasions I took dusters, a small kitchen knife and glass shards with me just incase anything happened. I was stupid, luckily nothing ever did happen and I moved into a school shortly after. But it just shows how easy the fear of other dangerous weapons can make u hold a dangerous weapon. I wasn't in no gangs, wasn't a vicious person, but I was scared, and I couldve lost my life in many ways because of it.

And Criminals are way less likely to approach you when you’re carrying a gun. Its just you percieving them as if their lives dobt matter for them. They want to stay alive as much as you do.
So if we’re playing „but if” game - consider how eager the criminal is to approach a person with and without a gun.

Giving everybody weapons is the best way to escalate situations that are not life or death into situations that are life or death. That implies more deaths, not less deaths.
There is also zero evidence that more weapons act as a deterrent, and actually quite the contrary. Both gun crime in america shows this and knife crime in the UK shows this.

It _is_ the weapon that matters, _as well as_ the mindset of individuals.
I'm not for the banning of firearms, but I _do_ think it makes sense to ban anyone (aside from special exemptions such as police) from carrying any small/concealable firearms such as handguns on their person outside of a shooting range or their private property. This is roughly like what the law in Canada is, except Canada has some stupid extra rules that are illogical/net-detrimental, such as banning certain specific models of weapons for being "assault style", as well as banning suppressors. And on a related note, they also ban stuff like carrying around pepper spray or shock devices.

I doubt it. I admire their commitment and their intention but those who are most likely to actually use a knife are not going to just hand them in. Even you took away their knives if they were so determined to stab someone they will just go through the kitchen cupboards. Literally everyone has knives in their kitchens. The solution to this problem lies within the ppl themselves. It needs a culture change. Punishments must also get a lot heavier as a deterant. Its no good handing out Mickley mouse sentences. They need a real deterant. I'd bet anything that if they knew they would be hanged for it they wouldn't be so casual about it.

Sad thing is that most the people who give away their knifes are not the ones that plan to stab people but more to protect themselves. The real killers would never give them away. Still great job though the less knives the better.

Yeah sure the fellah who give the "Chinese Broadsword" of fthe boxes was to protect himself. BS! And if you think that you can "protect" yourself with a knife against another knife.... think again.

@@berzerker7174 Yes, bro watch videos of the knife fights. They are carrying machetes. Their murder rate is higher than america and people wont even go out at night in some places.
Britain needs the 2nd amendment, coming from a swede. Inb4 "BUT WHAT IF THEY HAD GUNS!", the reason criminals don't have guns there are because youre an authoritiarian island. Here where our laws are just as strict but we're mainland the criminals have AK47s, grenades and C4. If there was a chance i might be carrying a gun they wouldnt dare rob me and if they did I would ventilate them.

Sure getting rid of the knives works short term. But we need to tackle the issue or why kids are involved in crime. Likely due to lack of opportunities or positive role models
