  • Red Annihilation was a Quake competitive eSport event, sponsored by Microsoft, held in May 1997. The tournament was held on Mpaths networks with over 2000 participants. The top 16 were flown to Atlanta, Georgia for the final tournament at the World Congress Center during E3 of that year.
    The one thing that made this tournament so famous, was that the first place finisher would win the car of John Carmack (co-founder of id Software). A Ferrari 328 GTS cabriolet from 1987.
    The finalists where: Dennis "Thresh" Fong vs Tom "Entropy" Kizmey
    The map was E1M2 aka "Castle of the Damned"
    A 20 minute long 1vs1 match.
    The demo was downloaded from here: www.esreality.com/post/869256/...
    This demo was originally a chase cam demo and was later on converted into a POV demo. The demo has some bugs, like a lack of a weapon model, weapon bar info, HUD scoreboard and the lag on item pickups. But other then that the demo works and big thanks to the person who converted the spec demo.
    Here are a lot more classic demos from that era, that you can watch:
    demos.igmdb.org/LeopolD/Quake/...
    demos.igmdb.org/LeopolD/QuakeW...
    demos.igmdb.org/ChallengeTV/de...
    PS. Game is Quake World, its an old school fast paced FPS game, that requires a lot of skill in movement, item timing, positioning and especially aim. And You can download the Game For FREE here nquake.com/. Its very easy and fast to install.
    For help, news and downloads for this great GAME go to this site: www.quakeworld.nu/
    Hope you enjoy this infamous match :)

      You're cute.
      110-120 fov with d_mipcap 4 was what pretty much all players used, i've been speedrunning the original Quake and playing Quake World on and off since the release(We can duel if you want ;) ).
      But no point in discussing this anymore, you're making your self look like a jerk who don't know shit basically.
      But yeah, maybe Thresh didn't use 110-120 fov like all the other pro-level players did back then, you're still uninformed though.

    so , the first thing first, Quake was playing the 'brick and the cube'. brick is six sided, and cube is eight sided. Brick is 'the walls' , the cube put the textures. i guess, the id software engine, was the only one, ever, because "nobody made a close approach at the central unit, as Romero did. so , the first game was Q, but it was not rendered. then was 'gl.quake', and this was graphic acceleration card, support. for those of you who don't know, a PC at that time, had a S3 (Virge microchip licence) and if you had 3D acceleration in a pci slot, you could run a rendered quake 1. the thing is : when the quake was being designed, 'there was no 3d support'. i'm guessing. i'm just saying 'that the game was written as an Engine'. and , the Accelerator made the engine, better. as i read in a book , russian, the trick of the 'doom game', was 'that it was not doing a live rendering'. some frames was cold frozen, and 'dropped from the memory'. it made the game faster. what i id did, was : that destroyed a personal computers like atari and amiga. that has run the Microsoft for a garage computer selling , and the dos windows. so : if you seen , a Norton Commander, or Dos Navigator, then , you know when the 'evolution of the computer systems has stopped'. i never seen something better than Norton commander. really. windows is really stupid. windows is 'disconnected from the user'. also internet is disconnected from the science, because "the internet was designed as a technology learning place, a place where only an information on networks and programming related subject, not 'showing nude babes'. well. "one window , one thing ?" dumb. "thank you ID , for destroying great Motorola related, french designed games, that relayed on 'one cpu machine'. that's great, that's just great.

    • @Robertkopp84
      @Robertkopp84 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      You did not offend me at all. It's a common misconception. Unstable fps and a shitty mouse do not help the performance. This was before the pentium 2 and even before glquake if im not mistaken.
      Also my ancestors played pong

    • @therealshug
      @therealshug 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lmao
      yes that's very true. Though I used a trackball for ages to game, so I really don't think a ball mouse would have been that bad with a higher sensitivity; I agree that it would still suck with bad fps and refresh rate. not to mention max resolution was 800x600 or something for the original game.
      my point was just that it's funny to see how games evolve. It was the same thing in BF2, it was probably a good couple years before using TV missiles on choppers instead of just ground targets became the norm in the game. It's funny to me to see Quake 1 being played in this fashion, since the community is much different now.

      +Herr Bert - air control in Quake (original Vanillaquake engine) didn't add speed. If you wanted to accelerate in air, you needed to push +forward. +forward did kill 95% of air control.
      The speed gain was insignificant, you could gain like 30% speed in one roundjump (with nowadays knowledge) and them continue with +forward but you will hit the wall within few jumps as you couldn't turn :).
      Quakeworld changes in engine brought acceleration during air time without +forward. So with QW, trick jumping was really worth it and therefor, exploited to perfection.
      Also, you could hear lot more in original Quake so jumping was just great way to reveal your position :D

    but , the screen you watch is flat, the CRT was not flat. "what difference" , a very big or huge. This game mixes 'reality' (because the weapons are not fantastical but realistic) with versatility, which is the very free choice , and "the speed of moving". game doesn't provide , looking out of the Corner, ducking, and it doesnt provide 'head shots'. which was never included in any 'id quake production', neither 'a quake enemy territory'. called 'quake wars'. so : the 4th quake team fortress really was a bomb. this demo is run on a new engine, not the old one, i'm not sure if there was simple items back then. is there a 'sv_gravity , run on this map? also 'fov' was a key. i played omicron bot on Dm2 , and Dm4, so "if you ask Rambo, what is quake, he's gonna say : it's my Houme". i think today we deserve a 'pointing device with a hand grip' rather than mouse. i play quake 2 with left hand. it makes impressions real. map 'the Edge' it's just crazy, Quake 2 is a masterpiece, i just love this game. it's so perfect. i saw one demo on dm2 somebody said "what you learned from Entropy , makes you really good", or something, because jumped 180degree , well 'he jumped across the lava, without opening the floor. you know. "i heard there is plenty camps , lately", kick boxing camps, karate camps, different camps. i am guessing, different camping grounds, gather some Campers. for all those who 'think about cherries collecting' cheers. dm4. so, where is the bad place. cos i wanna visit there. i also seen a cinema demo, about "a soldier who came back from stroggos planet, with his rail gun, to a family, that was pissing off him, and.. that was funny". he just came back from a war against aliens, and 'here is what he meets again'. Lame thing.
