My favorite vma moment and performance of all time.no dancers, no shocking people, no naked girls just two talents with guitars making magic and still bringing down the house that’s real talent and that’s what’s lacking in todays music
My first time listening to Dead Or Alive (the album version), i hated it, then i saw this performance, happy to listen to Livin on a Prayer... made me fall in love with Dead or Alive ! I feel you brother
I live in Milan and i saw them in 1988 Live Concert.I listen your music since i was 13 and i still love them. One of the best rock band in history.Mtv unplugged was basically born from their idea
Look at the perfect control of bends and vibrato on that solo 5:10 and his style is so identifiable, succesful or not BJ would be a whole different sound without him, and at a cost.
I’ve watched this so many times. What’s fantastic is the joy Jon seems to exude as he watches Richie punch out the lyrics in dead or alive. It’s nice to see the chemistry they have in the moment. Must be a great memory for them both.
and lets not forget 💕the very good looks, the dreamy blue eyes, and that glorious head of long hair and devilish pretty smile and oh he can sing and the out of this world songwriting abilities!💘
I'm not the biggest BJ fan, by any means.... but holy shit!!! What a talented duo!!! They don't even need the rest of the band :) Such a powerful performance!!!
I wasn't a Bon Jovi fan then and I'm not a Bon Jovi fan now. But this was a genuine moment. Iconic and extremely influential. Everyone in and out of the business took notice.
TO ALL BON JOVI FANS: Vote for Bon Jovi's 1989 performance of “Livin’ on a Prayer” / ”Wanted Dead or Alive” as the MTV Video Music Award's most Iconic performance of all time! You can vote as many times as you like so be sure to vote now and often!
I remember watching this performance when it originally aired. It was this performance that soon after gave MTV the idea to create their hit show "Unplugged"
I saw Bon Jovi live in 1989 on the New Jersey tour, one of the best concerts I've ever seen, they were and still are awesome but back there no one compared at all.
El primer Unplugged de la MTV, es algo mítico, cuando Richie se baja el sombrero, las guitarras, las voces , todo. Creo que ahí dejaron la huella de lo que siempre fueron y serán, unos Grandes. Gracias Richie, Jon, gracias Bon Jovi
Best MTV award show performance ever.I saw them on the slippery when wet tour, and if you would have told me that 25yrs later that they would still be putting out number 1 songs I would have said you were crazy. But,here they are 25yrs later doing just that. You have got to give them credit.
For many years I dreamed of getting a Taylor 12-string, with Dead or Alive the top of the list as first song to learn on it. Got that Taylor today, and now I'm here for a lesson from the artists. Thank you Richie and Jon, sincerely, for all your inspiration and especially for this amazing performance.
Jon and Richie. Your born to be wild. Blood on blood. Your not the same away from each other. Time to get back at it and do some magic but be nice on Jon's voice these day's lol
This performance in some way was the trailblazer beginning to end Heavy Metal . Bon Jovi unknowingly, with this acoustic performance led the path to their own demise .
well I would not say all that. they are both good at what they do in a different way. not one against the other or one being better than the other. they are glorious together with their talent and skill set. perfection💕💕. you still have to hire the best
I think people forget just how talented Richie Sambora is, yes Jon was an incredible singer but Richie on guitar and singing is just something else.
that is why he was hired. hello
Damn shame he could not accept that the name of the band was BON JOVI instead of Sambora.
@@barcham great comment and worthy of thinkin about
@@barchamhow about Bon Bora? Lols
true his harmonies are awesome
Who is watching this performance today? Shout out to Bon Jovi a band that deserved everything they got.
Not sure why, but this performance teared my up.
Me
Yep. Check back every 6 months to see if it’s as good as I remember and it always is! The guitar is sensational but their voices together are amazing
2024 ❤
4/24 because of the Hulu doc. 🎶
This is the kind of pure talent that doesn't exist in today's music. And its not debatable
I totally agree !
So true.
Fantastic
Lol. Yeah musical talent died in 1989.

What stupid thing to say
Togdèn Khandro Agree Completely!!! 🤘🏻👍🏻
You are right. It is not debatable. Absolutely the best performance of this song ever!!
Holy shit, Richies backing vocals are fantastic! I have mad respect.
My favorite vma moment and performance of all time.no dancers, no shocking people, no naked girls just two talents with guitars making magic and still bringing down the house that’s real talent and that’s what’s lacking in todays music
Jon would have been a star on his own but Richie added the secret sauce to Bon Jovi ; his harmony and vocals are magical.
This is my favorite performance of theirs doing Dead or Alive. If only we all could have remained that young.
My first time listening to Dead Or Alive (the album version), i hated it, then i saw this performance, happy to listen to Livin on a Prayer... made me fall in love with Dead or Alive ! I feel you brother
Richie has such a phenomenal voice. That high oooo riff he sings at the beginning and end of dead or alive is gorgeous.
I live in Milan and i saw them in 1988 Live Concert.I listen your music since i was 13 and i still love them. One of the best rock band in history.Mtv unplugged was basically born from their idea
💚🤘
Yes. Absolutely besos
I love their chemistry in this video
Richie…. One of the best “second voices” ever.. great guitar player aswel. 💪🏻
Richie is awesome. He could've been lead singer as well. Sure miss these days. Best music of all times.
These days hehe
Look at the perfect control of bends and vibrato on that solo 5:10 and his style is so identifiable, succesful or not BJ would be a whole different sound without him, and at a cost.
One of my favourite performances of Jon and Ritchie

Totally agree. Richie's voice is great for classic blues rock, but still, Jon had that sound that made Bon Jovi what it was.
Yeah, I mean Phill X is good but in my opinion he's the adam lambert of Jon Bon Jovi, he'll never fit the sambora shoes
@@maua.v3157 not even a comparison..

I love how Richie's voice is just as powerful as Jon's lol
Richie has way more soul and rhythm. Kind of prefer it actually.
john b jovi said once : im singing because ritchie can play guitar better than me
@@hRt42kuo7jTtmk14 indeed Ritchies a much better singer
Richie is very talented too...the sound good together
@@asddsa-uy9ko that didn't stop Jon from naming the band after himself tho...sounds like fake modesty to me

Timeless. I remember seeing this 25 years ago, and 25 years later I still love it.
You were there in the audience? Omg :O
I remember this so well. Totally revived this band as they were approaching the 90s.
I love Richie!! His harmonizing vocals is amazing ❤
Good Lord! Forgot how sexy they were. But the chemistry when they performed together was incredible. Amazing talent! Loved this! ❤

2 great artists at their peak ...
Amen!
jonnysongs Did they take acid or what?
Their voices compliment each other so well & the songs sound even better accoustically (dont think thats a word)
they are bad ass and they know it
I actually watched this when it was on the MTV Awards in 1989. NOW I feel old....
Ugh...this is so good. Every time i get tired of hearing people butcher their stuff live, i go straight to some old bon jovi

This is the beginning of the good legendary 'MTV Unplugged'
El día q Bon Jovi se robó el show con tan solo dos guitarras acústicas, los mejores

I saw Bon Jovi open for RATT in 1985, It was my first concert.
I don’t know why the original video was removed, but I’m glad we still have this one.
one of my favourites ♡
How Richie was the best singer in the band is amazing. At 5’45” JBJ realised the same 😅
There are levels and Richie is up there with the very best.
It's amazing.
At their peak
These guys are so amazing!!!! I've loved them since '86 always will!!!!! :-)

These two mf had something special when they were together man... so sad what happened to Jon's voice...
Pure chill of emotion ⚡️
This Is The First Unplugged In The History....
How many youngn's do you think heard or watched this version of Dead or Alive and said "I want to learn how to play guitar".
4:52- That scream was insane. It's like some kind of a predatory bird in the desert. Very aggressive
Richie needs to get off of the sauce and get back to the band. They are lost without each other.
Yea but he’s not lost without them. He will never go back. He doesn’t need the money.
