So before any more ridiculous feedback or commentary comes along claiming us to be atheists or disbelievers, I figured I'd make a post to clear the air.
The whole thing to understand with song writing is that I am not always writing from MY perspective and MY beliefs. Sometimes I like to do my best to climb into someone else's skin and write from their perspective. Obviously on 'Spotless Mind', I know I am not Jim Carrey in 'Eternal Sunshine', I am simply writing off that story and how I interpret him feeling. Not to say every song off of 'Origin' is written that way because 90% of it IS my experiences and my personal feelings.
Full honesty, I struggle with my faith in a higher being quite often and I wanted to write a song that portrayed a man who had completely lost his faith. But I do have days where I see the beauty and complex design of the world we live in and it feels hard to deny some ultimate creator must exist.
This song is sort of an antagonist to 'Hollow Shell', if you will. As much as I knew this track may rub people the wrong way, I wrote it because it's how I feel and these songs are a catharsis for my struggles and hopefully can help other people with similar issues. Anyway, just mainly wanted to reassure everyone that we are not worshipping Satan and do still have faith in a higher being. Much love to everyone regardless.
    -Rory R.

Dayseeker IVR I'm an atheist and have loved you guys from the start. I'm not here to try to sway anyone either way, but I do think that questioning is the only way to honestly approach any belief. We delude ourselves in so many ways every single day. Anyone who thinks you should stop questioning your beliefs is trying to get you to sign off on a slave mentality and that is just sad. Whether you believe or not you should always look to see where the evidence takes you. This album is fantastic - just like the last. Thanks for the music.

kennediens You are so spot on! Doctrines and dogma can indeed become slave mentalities and slave philosophies, especially when exercised with little to no constraint and/or objectivity. People need consider alternatives to bronze and iron age philosophies that are antiquated agents of regress instead of progress.
I give Rory credit for taking a different perspective on this issue; I know he mentioned in his interview that this song is more or less a sonic counterpart to their song, "Hollow Shell," but with lyrical content that takes the opposite perspective. It's sad that people are disappointed with a songwriter who is exercising versatility in lyrical themes and content. I think Rory should be praised for being this bold, brave and honest.

I don't know why everyone feels sorry or sad for Rory. We ALL go through these same emotions. If I wanted to listen to something "uplifting" I would, but this is just pure music beauty. This whole album is. I am so glad Dayseeker made this album, it's a beautiful work of art.

I like this song a lot. Reminds me of my internal struggles about religion during my youth.
I have completely turned atheist now and I deny the existence of God. I don't mind other people's belief though, until they get into a debate or argument with me about evolution and science. hehe

This whole album portrays such raw, hurting emotion. The personal experiences explored are beautifully crafted in a range of lyrical composure I have never heard before. This album hurts, it feels like a knife in my chest, but that is what makes it so fucking good.

Dayseeker, I am a Christian, but I still love this album, you guys are an amazing band, and make some stellar music. I myself have struggled with my faith as well, everyone does, it's not an easy thing. I support you through all this and whatever path life takes you on, but just felt like sharing my personal knowledge. When I was struggling with my faith, I read "Pale Blue Dot" by Carl Sagan (an atheistic book) and I ended up actually finding god within the lines, you may want to give it a try. And one last thing, whoever tells you to follow God "blindly" is a fool. You must always question everything. A leader wants to be followed because he is loved, not feared or followed just because his followers are told to. We were never put here to follow blindly, and yeah life is gona get really difficult along the way. I'm sorry you're in a rough patch

I don't understand the flack Rory is getting. People change, whether it's for the better or not is really just subjective. You shouldn't be mad that someone chose to believe something different than you and you shouldn't be upset. If you listen to Rory's older lyrics, he seemed like he was on the edge of disbelief anyway. Everybody has the choice to what they will and won't believe, and should be thought of no differently for that choice. I still shared the same respect for Rory when he wrote more spiritually, even though that is not what I align my beliefs with, and I'll continue to support him and anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation.

    • @ghostgate82
      @ghostgate82 9 ปีที่แล้ว

But all of Rory's gripes are based on misunderstandings and just a general lack of study.
If you don't like mustard and someone tells you that there is mustard in a certain food they're offering you (even though there isn't), you'll most likely reject that food without ever confirming whether there is indeed mustard in it or not. When pastors mislead their flock with non-biblical nonsense, people then understand how wrong what their pastor is saying is when they compare it to what is obvious. There problem is that they never stop to question whether the pastor was being accurate or not. People are too trusting. Rory complains that God won't speak to him. God speaks to us from His Word. That's why it's there. If Rory wants a face to face meeting, he'll have to wait another 40 years or so...

***** I'm not complaining over the fact that he lost his faith, I'm complaining over his fallacious reasoning *behind* loosing his faith. It would be like if someone was allergic to gluten, and turned down a bowl of spinach because of it. I'm not complaining that they don't want the spinach, I'm complaining that spinach in no way related to gluten allergies.
God isn't a utility. He is not there to make us *feel* comfort. Sadly, that's the way so many people view it nowadays though. Tragic.

    • @ghostgate82

There's nothing wrong with being an atheist in the first place. This vocalist isn't one, but there would be nothing wrong with him if he was. He shouldn't need to defend it and he certainly shouldn't equate atheism with satanism, nor should anyone. Newsflash, atheists don't believe in Satan either. Also one doesn't need hard times to turn away from god. You can be atheist and perfectly happy and stable. In fact most are. Try getting some perspective on the world and see things outside your own bubble. And please, for the love of your god, stop telling atheists you hope they find Christ and you'll pray for them, it's offensive. Why? Because you're saying something is wrong with them and the way they are living and that they need help. We don't. Have a nice day.

+Sean Reeves I agree with you in most of your statement, except when you ask Christians not to expect others to know Jesus, because we once were atheist like other people, and if we want you to know Jesus it s because it s the best thing that ever happen to us, but it doesn t means that you re life it s wrong unless you consider your own life wrong, we respect your life style and you can do what you ever want with it. Have a nice day ;)

This album, and this song specifically, make me sad. I love Dayseeker, and I loved that Rory put his faith into his lyrics with the last album, and now that's all gone. I was shocked at the lyrical content of the singles, and now I read the lyrics to this and I am really disappointed. I'm still going to listen to this album but my view of Rory has changed a little for sure.
