Amazing footage mate, in 2 mins you showed the capabilities of the S5 in light conditions that occur 90% of the time. Nice flares and I loved the tight shots on her face, still sharp and cinematic despite low light. Thanks!
Interesting video... Good image quality and good color grading. I have a Lumix S5 and to be honest, i don't like this camera. I think i appreciate this video because of the lenses you used (and of course, your work ). So i have a question : What lenses did you use ?
I think this topic needs to be brought back up again with a person like yourself with the shooting skills and camera understanding. What do you think is the best camera for the price now? The s1h used at $2150, the s5 now at $1300, the new s5iix that just came out at $2200 or the Blackmagic 6k g2 which was just $1500? Or maybe you have something else you think is better as of now?
The S5, S5IIX and S1H all use the same sensor. The S1H is probably the best option as it has an OLPF. The BM 6K sensor is inferior but you get 6k 60fps which is a lot nicer than the cropped 4k 60p. After that it's really down to if you want internal raw recording.
@@renaissancedigital5730 Thanks for this knowledge! Do you believe that the updated auto stabilization and focus is not worth it in the s5iix? I shot a live show of a large band run and gun this weekend and couldn't stop thinking after it would of been a nice stress relief to get rid of the jitters from manual focus and handheld with longer focal lengths.
@@kevinceccon9186 I don't think the updated IBIS in the S5IIx is worth it. The IBIS in the S1H and S1 are really really good to begin with. I do think the auto focus on the iix is a game changer. If you like to rely on auto focus its a great buy.
Hi I just found your work and its absolutely amazing. I am looking at purchasing this camera as I already have a Ninja V. What ISO do you mainly operate at? Thanks!
Converted to Arri LOG/color space, then from Log with the Kodak 2383 rec709 conversion, a bunch of adjustments to bring the color into the film stock realm I like, some secret sauce I do and voila.
Just looked through your old videos and you’ve used all the camera I’m interested in haha… Ended up landing on the BMMCC, but curious how you would rate it against the f3, S5, etc Thanks!
Oh nice! The micro is an interesting platform. I think it lives best on a gimbal. It’s interface is a little frustrating, but image-wise I think it’s a nice in between of the 2.5k and OG pocket. It’s not too sharp, not too soft and offers 60fps. I used one on a film back in 2016 and we actually damaged the sensor because we were shooting upstate in very cold conditions, so maybe just don’t take it to extreme places. I’d personally opt for a different camera with all of the choices we have today. The S1h might be the best bargain out there currently on the used market.
This was a custom look I built, and honestly I can't remember if I used the DaVinci 2383 in the pipeline or not. This might have been right before I ditched using it as it's a very destructive viewing LUT.
@@cvitkovic.viktor no I protect highlights in the day and I expose for skin at night. ETTR is kind of an older log technique that came about with slog3 and other profiles that opened up more dynamic range than the cameras could handle cleanly in regards to lower end dynamic range. Cameras are so clean these days it’s practically useless. Protect those highlights and don’t overexpose skin!
S5 delivers. It’s video quality is outstanding and price is more affordable than Sony or canon
I've bought one a month ago and... this camera is amazing. Image quality, dynamic range, stills, for this money you can't buy anything better!
Beautiful work! I just bought the S5. Excited to play around with it!

Appreciate that. It’s a strong camera. I want to test the raw output in a narrative setting next!
@@DanielTroyer amazing, please do and I'll watch the result with very much interest. Do you own an external monitor already or you want to get one?

Loved this video a lot! I just bought the S5 in 2024 as a B camera w/ my GH6.
How are you liking s5 compared with the gh6?
Totally agree ! The most underrated !

Great footage! This camera is amazing for its price, and I am excited to see what the 'hopefully' upcoming Lumix S5MK2 could do! 😎
Those shots on the beach are what sold it for me, did you slightly slow down the footage?
Is 2024 but can i ask if this is with atmos or internal codec? Thanks and amazing like always

Do you think this is better than a RED SCARLET X based on the image quality? Or the FX3 is better, I Am asking because you have used all of them...
Scarlet X is better than both. 16bit raw internal to rule them all. It depends on what you’re shooting though.
