another build i thought of is actually a ranger build but uses moon druid . the build is protector aasimar 11 lvls hunter ranger to reach whirlwind attack and then rest as moon druid , this could get you to say killer whale , then give it wings with racial ability so it can fly 30 ft movement. this would allow it to do 5d6 attack against every target within 5 ft of it, that or giant scorpion for 2 grapples and sting , and later turns drag the 2 grappled foes with you and do whirlwind attack and do a sting attack against every target in 5 ft. plus horde breaker would let you do another sting attack against one more target.
also your idea of Kung fu King Kong is possible with shape change spell , i was also going to add polymorph, but really wouldn't while it would get you giant ape , you loose proficiencies while polymorphed .
for monk sub , do Way of the Long Death, get temp HP on top of wild shape HP., later if you go deep enough you can avoid going to 0 HP with 1 ki point.
Haha I’ve wondered that myself. My only guess is there’s not as many plant based things to shape into(at least none come to mind)? But I’ve heard several people wanting this option so maybe we will get a subclass around it in the future!
At level 2: Giant Spider, Giant Hyena, Dire Wolf/Grizzle Bear (are tied) my top 3 wildshapes. Giant Lizard/War Horse if I need to carry party members up a wall or across a battlefield. All while doing an additional 2d10 radiant damage every turn concentrating on Moonbeam.
I am also a big fan of the grizzly bear! I also found being the giant octopus fun as well. A big tentacled blob being in the way of the enemies and smashing them all. A ton of fun!
The bear totem barbarian seems like an even better thematic fit. But I will always go pure druid, just for the dream of the capstone. And by then, your wizard buddy is looking for a simulacrum with maximum shelf life. The only thing better than one archdruid of the moon, is two.
Bear totem does work great as well! When I thought of the Ancestors cross class I had a specific backstory in mind (which I have since forgot 😅). But I will def consider that bear totem! And I do agree, Druid all the way is the best option! But maybe for a one shot, I’d do some multiclassing!
I'm playing a varient human, and took the charger feat and then at 4th level I took the gem dragon feat. So I'm a bear that telekineticly blasts anyone that attacks me away from me then charge attacks them. We were in a village on fire being attacked by goblins and I just kept blasting the goblins into the buildings on fire.
Wondering why you didn’t go with Moonbeam as a concentration spell to hold while in wildshape… it’s, imo the goat… until sunbeam… 2d10 radiant damage at the start of every turn and can move it 60’ every turn as a BA for 1minute… literally a police helicopter spotlight that bbegs can’t get away from, I killed 2/3 level 3 bosses with it as a giant spider perched and slinging restraining webs at the 3rd boss. Took no damage.
I had to think on this for a bit. I think I went Flaming Sphere over Moonbeam because we were playing the Frostmaiden adventure and I just loved the idea of smashing icy foes with a rolling ball of flame. For me, moonbeam just doesn’t excite me as much. Not saying it isn’t great because it def is!

The shape change spell would be good for that! And yeah, Polymorph isn’t always the best despite being a great spell.
I like creating environmental damage zones, becoming bear or similar, grappling enemy and drag their ass through the spikes.

This would also be good to infiltrate places. You could be a small spider and sneak in, and if you get caught you could fight your way out as a bear!

I’ve not played a Druid yet in 5e. I’ve been looking at the wildfire Druid though. The moon one seems neat too.
Chris has begun playing a Wildfire Druid in one of our games, and he likes it pretty well so far!

I made a moon Druid that’s basically a Ben 10 reference. Luckily my dm hasn’t noticed.....yet.

Bear totem moon Druid, playing as a kalashtar = telepathic in any language as an animal and resistance to EVERYTHING!
