Love it, showing the entire process, the bottles with batch numbers, color difference with a white background, double temp guns, a very detailed video that addresses major doubting points. Thank you for the videos, wish I am closer to Tyler (I’m in Dallas). Big fan of your videos.

I have a Reed Union bottle and I agree that it does seem to last a long time. I haven't tried the Energizer blend and I don't think I will if this test doesn't turn out well. I love how private testers are trying to keep big corporate honest. People vote with their wallets everyday and I'll wait to see where my next vote goes!

After all these years, unlike other company lquid wax cleaners, the NuFinish bottle still does not have a popup cap on top with a very small opening to precisely put what you want on the applicator for less waste - especially if you knock the bottle over!

I just love when company technical support lies and gets caught. Thanks for doing this test. I purchased the product about a year ago and it failed in a few months. I’m calling and asking for a refund.... 1 year protection my A**. Very similar experience with new vinyl. In the late 70’s it put ArmorAll to shame when used on my vinyl tops for water durability. Now it’s pretty much gone inside the interior in a few weeks.

Thanks for a very detailed review. That said I noticed that when you applied the Nu Finish the amount of polish left on the surface seemed to diminish as you reached the end of the panel. This only makes sense as the amount of polish on the applicator diminishes as you progress across the hood surface. That said wouldn't it make sense when doing the second application to reverse the direction? Thus the amount of Nu Finish would tend to equalize. The way you applied the Nu Finish it seems all but certain that there would be more applied at the start point and less at the finish point? As to the SDS sheet it would not surprise me if the reason for the increased warning level had less to do with changing contents than changing Federal Safety standards. And many petroleum based products would merit the same sort of warnings. Probably not a good idea to drink Nu Finish or use it to wash your hands but I'm guessing that the Feds follow the "Better Super Safe Than Sorry" philosophy.

Interesting that the original NuFinish had ceramic microbeads and was sold for about $8/bottle. Now ceramic products are the “new technology” and sold at greatly inflated prices.

But it did not have the durability of the new products. Even when the water repellency fails on the coatings, the protection against UV light and oxidation is still present. You pretty much have to polish those off to remove it. New Finish is just a sealant that lasted longer than the others

After Consumer Reports recommended Nu Finish back in the '80s, I started using it religiously. In about 2005, I was converted to Zaino Bros. Nu Finish seemed to be too old school, and I found it to be more work and did not at all last the full year it claimed while Zaino was a bit easier to remove and looked better. I'm not going back to Nu Finish, but I'm fascinated as to what you'll find from this test. Thanks, Scott!

So they could be telling the truth: Energizer are using the same formula they received, it's just that the formula was changed before they received it. Also, just to play the devil's advocate: could the standards for what goes into the MSDS be what actually changed, not the formula itself? I don't think that's particularly likely, but worth taking a moment to think about/rule out.

The takeaway here is not necessarily that the formula has changed. The reporting requirement for the MSDS have almost certainly changed. What is classified as a carcinogen, teratogen may have changed. The potential penalties for under-reporting may have changed, so that corporations take a more "throw the kitchen sink at it" disposition. The civil legal environment may have changed - to ward off lawsuits, the company slaps all sorts of hazards on the MSDS. These sorts of changes are LIKELY to have occurred. Changes in color/consistency/smell are perfectly consistent with a product aging in a bottle. Having said this, it may be that the formula has changed, but as careful as this presenter sounds, it is no substitute for a lab analysis. A few hundred dollars invested would provide all sorts of compositional detail. I doubt that new Nu Finish is truly hazardous. Here's a tip - where rubber gloves, work outdoors and enjoy your beer. I look forward to viewing whether the product's PERFORMANCE has changed. I buy the stuff to keep my car shiny, not to sleuth whether there have been formulaic tweeks over the years.

You may want to do a similar test with Liquid Glass. Two versions of Liquid Glass appear to be in the marketplace now being sold. MPT claims to owns the rights to the name Liquid Glass. However, they do claim it's a new formula and marketed as LG900. The same old familiar Corvette is on the container but it's now in a plastic bottle. Advance Auto Parts is marketing the familiar metal container can version with a modern day Corvette but it states the manufacturer is CFPI for Liquid Glass. However, CFPI does list the familiar LG100 reference on the label which is what the old formula used. Some claim the new Corvette look container is the old formula but others claim it's a different formula too. Which do we believe?

One can find their various trade names by looking up their CAS number. The oldest batch listed petroleum distillates (Stoddard Solvent). That's refined from naphtha and was used for dry cleaning. The newer batches list naphtha and it may have the same CAS # as Stoddard solvent. Their clay beads may be the same ceramic beads since ceramics are made from clay.

Well it's my opinion that current MSDS's (SDS's) are not what you would think they are intended to be. While they do contain pertinent information, they tend to over state hazards and risks in CMA language of lawyers. For example, read a NaCl SDS and tell me if you want to touch it much less eat it. By the way, NaCl is table salt. The problem is even after reading them, you are not sure what the legitimate risks are. As years pass, more chemicals are listed as hazardous. Whether the actual formulation has changed or the required chemical reporting has changed is anyone's guess without further testing. Your results can give further insight. I guess you could say the MSDS can be taken with a grain of salt.

I hope it's not humid there. As for the product, I think you nailed it, it's not the same stuff anymore. Just the fact it went from a level 1 flammable product to a level 4 tells a lot. For the toxicity it's hard to say because I think you are right about the tests being more strict now so it might have been just as toxic back then and people did not know. Howdy from Lake o' the Pines! I used Nu-Finish for years when painting houses for realtors in the Longview area to restore the sheen to older fiberglass shower/tub units. Never told them what I used since they thought it took considerable effort due to amount I charged for that. A while back I checked out a website where a man was restoring damaged/missing clear coat by using several applications of Nu-Finish. Was curious to know more about that method now that I own a '05 Black Dodge Neon that my son in Tyler gave me since the Dodge dealers wouldn't give him jack as a trade-in due to milky & crumbly areas in the clear coat. I noticed that the white spots turned black when wet with rain so was considering to apply a few coats of thinned bleached shellac to a few areas to see if that would give them a wet look. If not, then I can remove it using straight ammonia (and probably take off the failed clear at the same time).

So the first materials sheet did not by law, have to report all the ingredients and their effects. But through time, you see that as the laws change, there are actually super toxic ingredients in the formula that must be revealed to the user. Just a thought.

It works great on the windshield and I like it much better than RainX. RainX causes the blades to chatter when it starts to wear off, so you feel like an addict constantly in need of a "fix". NuFinish just sort of fades away and you can redo it whenever you want, without the chattering penalty. The clay in the NuFinish also does a good job of lifting contaminants from the glass.

What is your opinion of meguiars ultimate compound cause you know our here in Amarillo Texas you get the dirt and sun to extremely mess your paint up so what can I use to help this poor 98 Dakota with a red paint job.

Space age polymers huh....thanks for this, I've been die hard for over 30 year's, but I truly only use it maybe 2times a year. But hell bout to trash the bottle now.

I have used nu finish for years and can attest that it used to be tan in color for sure, I don't think your 2016 bottle is aged out yet, I remember having kept one for way too long and it separates if I remember correctly.

Has nothing to do with the ingredients changing. Under U.S. law, there several situations in which or supplementing the Office's record of your work is beneficial (or, in the case of termination of transfer, ).Apr 25, 2018 Of course it looks and smells different, it's older and may have been stored differently.

Hey Scott...is there a current product that works like the original formula Nu Finish?

  • @ChrisHarrisWaco
    @ChrisHarrisWaco 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I'll just add that age absolutely thickens and darkens the product. And increased warnings does not equal increased danger or changes to the product. Asbestos used to be considered safe.

    • @ScottHD

That I'm not 100% sure of. If I can find some pre-2015 or pre-2012 paste, I'll definitely go for testing it.
