Thank you soo much man! This video literally saved me, I was going crazy, not understanding why my lower back feels weird everytime i deadlift, this is exactly my problem! Can't wait for my next workout, to try this out! You definietly earned a sub.
Dude, this just cured my back pain when doing these exercises. I can´t express how grateful I am towards you for helping me, finally I can comfortably deadlift. :)))
Eugene! You give THE best ques in the industry. I've been lifting longer than than you've been alive, and you've helped me tremendously. Thank you, friend.
I had diagnosed this issue some time ago on my own and arrived at part of the problem, i.e. the "chest up" cue, which is common in the powerlifting circles, causing hyperextension of the spine and causing the prime movers - the glutes - to partially disengage from the hinge movement, causing the spinal erectors to take over. However, I could have NEVER enunciated it so lucidly. Props to you, Sensei.
This is my exact issue as well. I stopped doing DL's and RDL's all together because of my lower back pain. Time to start from scratch again with this info. Thanks!
I watched this about a week ago and since then have implemented nasal breathing in pretty much all my lifts and i can not tell you how HUGE a difference that one change has made in the stability of my core. Even my pullups are stronger. many thanks!
I think I might be doing this. I know that when I do squats, lunges, and deadlifts my lower back gets tired quickly and later will hurt. Thank you for this post!
You helped me so much with the squat video I just watched of yours I was randomly reccomend by TH-cam!! Great content, I started doing 5x5 training and on dead lift days my lower back takes 3+ days to recover and it's not muscle pain I can tell it's more of my spine because of the pain is not like doms pain. And after 4 days of resting my back I did squats and a sharp pain shot down my lower back after my second set after having to take a two week lay off your video helped me out so much I was squatting exactly how you said not to do! Chest up spine flexed outwards thank you for your content

Very helpful. I've been watching a number of RDL videos for advice on form and this one synthesizes many tips I have seen. It also includes understandable physiological explanation plus tips about breathing through the nose and engaging the lats which were not explicitly emphasized in other videos.
How have I never come across this channel before? What an awesome trainer. All content, no BS filler. So much better than most TH-cam trainers. Wish I had 1/10 of his physique!
Hadn't deadlifted since Jan and went in a bit hard this week. I'm conscious of keeping lats tight but I think seeing your demo has made the problem clear. Thanks! Nice to see your subs going up too, always been good content.

U really just fixed my deadlift immediately.😂 I always push my butt back and chest up. I just stood up and tried just hinging, and I could feel my hamstrings tremendously. Thank you so much
I have been doing deadlifts correct for years but recently after watching a few tutorials decided to implement there cues.....straight away it gave me back issues. So thanks to your vid I've gone back to the old way of doing things, and my back has had no problems. Excellent tips Eugene.....Nasal breath makes all the difference. Thankyou bro!
As a physio, I must say this is an extremely good video and you have completely nailed a lot of queues here that I had never thought about. Great technical analysis and biomechanical knowledge here. One reason I think people feel they need to do the 'chest up, hips back' pattern, is that they have been taught that they need to avoid lumbar kyphosis to prevent disc-related injuries. They therefore overextend the lower back, rather than maintaining a neutral position as you describe.
Awesome explanation of the Lats' role that I wasn't familiar with. Another cue I like for connecting with the Hamstrings/Glutes is focusing on "pawing" the ground, the way you do to increase/maintain speed going down the street on a skateboard.
Duuuuude! This addressed the biggest problem I have. No one else could do that. TH-cam or in person! You are the master! I’ve been binging all your videos lately, and I highly respect your approach to health and proper lifting - it’s the most in line with my own thinking that I’ve been able to find out there. And if I ever make it to Australia or you make it to the States soon, I’d be way down to get a workout session in with you!
Very informative! A lot of misinformation on TH-cam. You have broken things down bit by bit very precisely. Thank you for these wonderful instructions.
definitely answered my question... which none of the main BB youtubers seem to cover so explicitly. Just got back from a deadlift heavy session, and my lower back is strained AF. I'm pretty sure I'm arching my back excessively in order to prevent the rounding that everyone else goes on and on about. Looking forward to hinging my hips better, not arching, and hopefully not collapsing from low back strain! Thanks Eugene!
I did these same mistakes when i started, the only parts that have gotten swole are my disks, it took me 3 years of yoga, mobility and bodyweight training to recover; now restarting from scratch.
gawd damn this is on point! deadlifted yesterday and my low back is sore today, but glutes and hamstrings are not. need to get my act together. great video.
