@@rominproy458 The instrumental prelude has a major tonality, like Persian Dastgah Mahur. The entrance hymn with strings here also has that sound someone here called ‘celtic’. Moroccan Andalusian instrumental music has a lot in common with it. The majority of the singing I hear here is also in a similar mode refreshingly void of the Arabism that also spoils so much of Eastern Orthodox ‘Byzantine’ chant. I get the impression that singing ‘chromatic’ modes with emotionally exciting, sensual dissonances is not original to ancient Christian worship but imported much later under the influence of Arab Muslim ascendency. I think much of the more dissonant sound we associate with middle eastern music is not actually very ancient, but harmonically simpler major-mode singing is more primitive and authentic. This recording is valuable to me (Eastern Orthodox) as it shows a traditional Syriac Qurbana without the schmaltzy synthesizer and pop vocal accompaniment, replete with heavy artificial echo and reverberation that is so distracting. Sound reinforcement should not alter the psychoacoustic space in any obvious way, and cutesy keyboard synthpop sounds are totally inappropriate.
The Second Vatican Council insisted the Eastern churches go back to their old traditions. It's because of the Second Vatican Council that we see the return of Syriac and East Syriac traditions in our church.
@@bernardthome9003 It sure did. And honestly, it was a disaster. But the form of the Novus ordo we see now is the modernist version. The celebration of the Novus Ordo in the way it's meant to be can be seen through this link - th-cam.com/video/T-zdRmTMgek/w-d-xo.html. By god's grace, there are still orders within the Roman church who uphold the Extraordinary and the ordinary forms in its purity. The Second Vatican Council insisted on us, the Eastern Catholics, to go back to our traditions, but they lost their own. This new modernist method has crept into our church too, though it's now being undone. Let's pray for the full restoration of the Syro-Malabar Church to its pure form.
@@bernardthome9003 The Latin theology was imposed upon us via the Synod of Diamper. Even after the Second Vatican Council, there were many people within the Syro-Malabar church, clergy and laymen, who were against going back to traditions. So, the reverting back to what we have now did not happen immediately after the Council. It took many years. During that period, the Novus Ordo theology was naturally adopted. But with the efforts of many of our bishops and clergy such as Mar Joseph Powathil and Fr. Emmanuel Thelly, our church has gradually progressed in going back to our traditions.

We cannot say that it is in pure form. after portugese inversion there waere lattin mixing happened for the mass, even for this suriyani mass. But we dont know much details.
The music at the beginning is so interesting, I've never heard it before, why does it sound so ...Celtic? What's the name also.
yumyumwhatzohai the is the classic east syriac aramaic tune. but it is lost by churches of east, iraq, iran etc because of the intervention of arabic tunes. our church uses the primitive tune and primitive pronunciation of east syriac, our pronunciation is the old pre 14th centuary pronunciation, and current pronunciation of east syriac are new, post 14th centuary pronunciations

Catholicism is not the problem it is the 2nd vatican council
The Second Vatican Council insisted the Eastern churches go back to their old traditions. It's because of the Second Vatican Council that we see the return of Syriac and East Syriac traditions in our church.
@@bijogeojose7209
But in contradiction, the Second Ecumenical Council of Vatican proposed the Novus Ordo.
@@bijogeojose7209
But what the Council meant for Latins became theology of majority of Syro Malabars.

This is Suriyani Qurbana of Syro Malabar Church. The Malayalam Qurbana used in Syro Malabar Church currently is the translation of the Syriac text used in this video. In Thrissur area influence of Syriac is less compared to that in Kottayam for example, primarily due to the policies of bishops in the area.

Syro Malabar is proudly and happily part of the Catholic Church
@Frederik Ferdinand George catholic is a greek word that means universal. Syro Malabar church is part of the universal church. It is in full communion with Rome. There are many traditions within the catholic church: syriac, greek, latin. Ofcourse latin tradition is dominant for historical reasons.
@Frederik Ferdinand George there are many Latin traditions in the syro malabar church that I love:celibate priests, rosary, way of the cross and so many more.
