People aren't angry about a black guy being the main character, they're mad that he was chosen to be the main character in feudal Japan era game. I live in South Africa, and have traveled to Zimbabwe and Mozambique, there is so so much incredible history here. If Ubi wanted to, they could easily have built a beautiful game in ancient Africa with a black MC and everyone would have loved it. Yasuke feels very shoe horned into this game, very agenda driven, it's so obvious...
Imagine a Skyrim but set in Africa with African legends and culture? All those wild weapons, all that amazing scenery, all those animals, that style. It would be amazing.

They're hoping to boost sales by putting it out during America's "Black history month". Reality is so much stranger than fiction, it's honestly disgusting how they're pulling this. They're hoping to gain the lost sales in Japan back by pushing this as "black history" to Americans.

It is a more than fair assumption that if the creators of a piece of entertainment talk about diversity that it's going to suck because 99.9% of the time it does. Tadakatsu Honda was a Japanese samurai and general known for his big brute figure. For his fighting prowess on the battlefield, he earned many praises from various figures such as Ieyasu, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and even Oda Nobunaga himself. It would fit if Unkosoft change Yashitke with him.

They were trying to actively rewrite history using a fictional book as there source but the author treated it as fact when it was obviously made up. You can't say why a historical figure. It's like saying there might have been a known historical figure named ezio but was like a poet or something and they turned him into an assassin. Two ideas that could have worked.
1. Yasuke is a Assassin undercover as a Catholic missionary sent to investigate the Templar presence in Japan and set up an Assassin base, recruiting Naoe as the Master Assassin.
2. Yasuke is a "mysterious figure" who recently arrived in Japan. For unknown reasons he understands Japanese and works with Nobunaga. It is later revealed that he is a nomadic Assassin sent to investigate the Nobunaga specifically.
But no woke points...🤔
I would like Yasuke as a constant rival,blindly following Nobunaga and at the end I imagine final mission being the one burning of the temple (don't remember if it was castle or temple), you being surrounded by soldiers and Yasuke has a change of heart and just BULLDOZES them to clear you a path
I mean, they legit could've used Yasuke as an "Assassin mentor" in the new game. He could have been an assassin who was caught, and due to finding out about the piece of Eden (even if it was due to a plot contrivance), he travelled to Japan with the merchants (as a slave) and approached the target (Oda). As he cannot move openly, he took on a disciple (could be the chosen main character who Yasuke saved from being killed).. Then the ninja woman could've just been someone who the MC interacts later.
The disciple could learn Kenjutsu and other fighting skills from different dojo's, while he also gets the parkour and assassin skills/knowledge from Yasuke..
This could've literally been a way for DEI to be inserted without completely destroying the name of the series.. But as always, the woke crowd gets greedy with inserting their ideology. They're not satisfied with taking the "subtle route", they just had to plaster Yasuke everywhere, make him into a MC IN JAPAN who kills Japanese people, destroys items belonging to common people, smashes doors/gates with brute strength, etc.

Just erasing Yasuke? They still need to make both an accurate male and female japanese protagonist. Erase the plagiarized stuff like the one piece sword, get rid of the hip hop music for japanese music, switch the chinese architecture for japanese one, actually portray the seasons accuratelly and apologize for their treatment of japan and gamers over this whole debacle. That´s gonna take more than february. Yasuke can get maybe an historically accurate spot like he should have gotten in the first place. But at this point, no matter what they do with him, he will still be hated for his part in the controversy. Even if nothing much is known about the real life Yasuke and he spent 2 years as aexotic curiosity and a slave there, Ubisoft has done him a great disservice too

Here is a funny fact....i dont like Ubisoft, i have ZERO intention of EVER buying Shadows or outlaws in their current form.....but if they replace Yasuke with an actual Japanese male protagonist, and add a male character option to outlaws, i would buy them both immediately. Their character choices currently destroy any chance of immersion for me in either game so they hold zero appeal. They should try never to limit their audience that dramatically.

I'd still advise to wait a week to make sure the game isn't a mess. The trailer alone shows some strange things like floating doors and stairs not lining up with doors.

If Ubisoft corrects coarse and replaces Yasuke with a Japanese man, removes all woke bull shit from the game AND releases the game in a fully functional unbroken state opposed to a buggy broken unplayable mess (star wars outlaws) AND is reviewed well by GAMERS not paid critics, I will buy the game. I never had a problem with Naoi, I'm down with the female ninja jam. In fact I like the idea of switching between a ninja attacking from stealth but being weak in head on combat and an all out attack warrior who can't even spell the word stealth. That would make for an interesting game where you can choose the best tactics for a given situation. Renounce the woke bulls shit, replace Yasuke, make a stable game with good gameplay and mechanics, then I'll consider giving Ubisoft my money. But let's be real, they won't do any of that. Their failure will be of their own making.

The odds of removing Yasuke are slim to none, but let’s have a hypothetical situation where Ubisoft did do this.
They switch the model to a Japanese man, got rid of the hip-hop remix, and reworked any dialogue, quests, flavor text, or items that are directly tied to Yasuke.
If they successfully did that in 3 months, it would show how insignificant Yasuke is to the story.
I personally don't care about Ubisoft games, last game I bought from them was FarCry 5 and it is still sitting collecting dusk in my Steam library...
They can leave Yasuke in the game, no questions asked... or maybe yes but by far not so many as of now. He would be a certainly interesting quest giver. Playing a native Japanes - man or woman - works much better for the whole immersion and plausibility though. But I think that will remain a wish.

If they erase Yasuke and put an actual Japanese protagonist, I'll definitely buy the game lol. They could just swap him out with a Japanese protagonist and make the stuff into him a side quest or whatever, but don't go presenting him as some badass samurai who spends his time fighting bad guys. That is such a dumb idea that I don't even know what they were thinking. Having a giant black guy going around Sengoku era Japan and killing people is just really dumb. He would have gotten lynched within seconds.

If Ubisoft actually gets rid of Yasuke it's over, they're done, there's no coming back. Let me emphasize how BAD of an idea this is. Not only are they acknowledging they don't have the ability to make Yasuke work, but they put him at the forefront of the marketing. Now, if by "remove" they mean change his name and acknowledge he's completely fictional or change his entire depiction, that would work better but they have to say that they fixed him.

Nah fam, they got the game delayed all the way till Feb of next year. BLACK HISTORY MONTH! There is no way in hell they would delay the game specifically to that date and then remove Yasuke from the game or "minimize" his role. If anything the opposite is more likely. That they will DOUBLE DOWN on focusing on Yasuke in their marketing and try and use black history month as a cudgel to bludgeon anyone who dare call them out on their woke DEI ESG bullshit! It wont work of course, gamers have fucking had enough of the DEI/ESG and "inclusivity and equity" for inclusivity & equity's sake. That NEVER has lead to a good product or helped IMPROVE a previously tested and true product that was already successful. Something even better that everyone would agree on!!! just make a character creation tool just like the latest from Star Citizen that can be played after you complete the main story line with the japanese main character as it was meant to be played, that way everyone can play as they like after that. Don't understand why they did not do this from the start.
If they did decide to get rid of Yasuke, they would have to cancel the game, do actual research on Japanese culture and history, do an actual apology with no excuses to Japan, and restart with a new project under a new name for the game. Though who's to say that will happen?

I doubt he'll be removed. Like the most realistic thing they could do is relegate him to a side character with potentially a new japanese character taking his original spot in the story and missions. Potentially a few missions or sidequests where you play as Yasuke still.
as yasuke exists in ac shadows, he is NOT a historical figure and never was. meaningfully, the time to remove that character from the game long since passed. anything they do after using that one-legged tori gate in their advertising is irrelevant. this was either perfect incompetence or an example of the utter contempt and loathing those infected by woke have for everyone else on this planet...

I do not think they can just remove Yasuke. It seems like the entire story is based around the two main characters. They'd have to remake the entire game, if they remove him. They should, from the beginning, just have made him into an important npc character, that helps the main character.
