Instead of tackling the issues in our government run schools that cause these differing outcomes, we choose to lower the standards for a particular racial group. That seems very racist on its face. It also raises concerns whenever one finds themselves being treated by a person of color, wondering if they are capable of providing the best treatment possible. That seems to be breeding more racism rather than less. Great presentation.
You are wrong: the MO is not to lower standards for deis, nor is it to declare the standards to be racist ( tho they do), rather, they declare the subject itself is racist.
The same thing people warned about affirmative action and it’s going to be even worse with this. I think we all second guess certain groups when they are certain positions now. It’s a shame but I really don’t think they(powers that be) know any other way to boost that group up
They are trying to achieve equity not equality, this means that the standard is lowered until all pass irrespective of whether this qualifies the person for the job. Meritocracy is a good system if it is run without prejudice or nepotism
If I had a choice between a black brain surgeon and an Asian one, I’m going Asian every time. And I’m sure blacks would too. These preferences hurt blacks in the long run. And will as long as we are all free to choose. That’s the next step - making sure that freedom is taken away. The only thing that ever made America exceptional has been its meritocracy. That’s it. And it’s fading fast, due to mass insanity.
@@junsu21 Obvious to a 2023 left-wing knee-jerk reactionary programmed to see everything through the lens of race. Did IQs drop sharply in the last couple of years? How do you hold down a job? My post had zero to do with race, and everything to do with academia, who have canceled the meritocracy it used to champion. Here's the point for all you whose IQs never squirt above 100. You want to reduce this to race since you're programmed see everything through that lens? Fine. Discriminating against asians because as a race they tend to perform better on entrance exams and GPAs is the most racist thing I can think of. This denies patients access to doctors who would perform better and save lives. Instead they give automatic advancement to people literally because of the color of their skin or what they happen to have between their legs. All they have to do is "check the box." (You might have someone smart explain what the box is.) While this phenomenon (sorry to use a word with more than 1 syllable) may not be as damaging to human life in other fields, it can be in other fields like brain surgery. You still with me? Do I need to draw you pictures? This is the absolute worst type of racism, because on the surface it looks like anti-racism. Here's an analogy that might be beyond you, but you can have a smart friend explain it. Let's say that the NBA had an initiative in place where they assessed that there weren't enough 5' 5" white guys in the league. So they automatically advanced anybody in that category. (I know you're a leftist, and stupid, but please follow along.) The team with the most 5' 5" white guys would lose every game. The only thing racist in this whole equation is that they denied opportunities to exceptionally qualified, mostly people of color. And would you pick the team with all the 5' 5" white guys in your fantasy league? No? Whaa? You racist pig. By elevating less qualified people to occupy life and death jobs (or any job requiring aptitude), you are A) dumbing down the workforce, B) denying access to better candidates (inequality), C) potentially threatening lives and D) diminishing faith in the very race you're trying to help. You want to have a conversation about inequality of schools? Fine, let's have that conversation. That's a legit point. Then I will mention that parenting (or lack thereof) is largely responsible for poor grades. There are people from bad schools who are up to the task. Ben Carson may or may not be one of those. I have no idea how many people he might have killed on the operating table. I'm suspicious by his switch to politics. What I do know is that he appears to be a very nice guy. Most people instinctively know what I've said is right, but are too cowardly to say it. No doubt because stupid people will call them racist. I happen to not care what a moron programmed by media and academia thinks. You got a rebuttal? I can hardly wait. This is going to be priceless. But please have somebody smart explain the previous paragraphs first, because we already know your IQ or reading comprehension is sub-par.
The fact that smart people have to spend their time and energy at great risk to their reputations and jobs to convince people that this equity nonsense is stupid and corrupting is deeply saddening. Maybe when planes start falling from the skies and patients beging dying under the surgeons scalpel will this begin to hit home.
I hope so. What I'm worried about is that we'll all go insane from everything going wrong and our quality of life going down, and we'll start scapegoating and playing the blame game instead of finding ways of improving things
I doubt it. In Baltimore, the response to a surge of car thefts is to sue the car companies for making their cars too easy to steal, because more stern laws would disproportionately affect people of color. We're doomed.
If the Presidential Medal of Freedom hadn’t been devalued so much in recent times I’d say award her one. Heather’s response to the final question: You describe yourself as a pessimist so why do you keep going? Heather: Sorrow and rage. That’s absolute gold
I'm black. I'm dismayed that standards are being downgraded. What an insult to black people. I strive to be excellent, and it has NOTHING to do with the colour of my skin!
Same here. I am Black and I am only interested in equity as it relates to merit-based opportunities. I am not looking for special treatment or hand outs. Character and merit still matter.
It does when the entire system has been built on centuries of disenfranchisement. As she stated, the racism isn’t in the standards it’s in the discrimination and racism in the system by writing off black Americans and not making sure they are knowledgeable (which is deliberate). It’s still racist, the only differences are the mechanisms. It’s manufactured failure and regrettable substitution, when one method “fails” a new one takes its place. This DEI nonsense is no different, the goal isn’t to help, it’s to give validation to WS and “prove” it right (even though it was constructed and planned)…
Heather MacDonald , an artist of thought. I love her candor. Truth is always the goal, and her approach is simply so filled with the richness of cultural beauty.
As far as the Chicago mayoral election, why Johnson won, when push comes to shove, if it comes down to a race between black and white candidates, most black people will simply vote for a black candidate. Plan and simple.
Except when the black candidate is a Republican. Both racial and ideological components. In fact I think the ideological is stronger. Why else do majority of black's vote for white Democrat candidates?
That's people in general. Most of us vote for a letter next to a name or for the color of someone's skin, that's it and nothing more. Why? Because most people don't think. Most people are just plain dumb and I take advantage of that whenever possible.
If you're a Marxist who wants to collapse the system and replace it with your own ideology, this is the playbook. It's made all the more obvious by their open and overt admission that this is the objective. For the last 105 years they've relied on incrementalism and academic word salad in order to finally achieve this goal; this generation is just very impatient and wants it NOW. You can trace this phenomenon to our public school system the past two decades, and parents who were hands-off and simply trusted the public school system to teach history and civics to their children. This "disparate impact" baloney went on the march in 2013 and their catalyst for forcing this transformation was George Floyd and social media. This is as close as they've ever gotten to collapsing Western civilization and they're not about to let this opportunity slip from their fingers.
This is eroding public trust in professions such as medicine and actually increasing discrimination against blacks. If you have two doctors one of whom you knew entered the profession without reaching the normal MCAT requirements, who would you choose?
Without knowing the race of the 3 doctors our insurance would cover, my wife and I researched each one and went with the specialist most recommended by our family physician and oncology nurses. We chose Dr. Ricky Myhand and could not have been better served. Unfortunately my wife lost her battle with 4th stage lung cancer (as we knew it was not survivable). Dr.Myhand kept her alive and thriving beyond the odds. By the way Dr. Myhand is a black man. Do you think we cared what his race was?
My chiropractor is a black man and is brilliant and very effective in his treatment approach. I did not know he was black, but my friends, athletes, recommended him highly. It was a colorblind referral which I am thankful for. He is well educated and a master in his field. His story is a reflection of merit and passion for his field.
The solution to inequality has to be at the front end, not the tail end. So fight crime, support nutrition, push a culture that glorifies study and family integrity, and that will actually make the equity through merit instead of trying to force equity by negating merit.
We are in dire need of more folks like this lady. She's well-spoken and perspicacious on an incredibly important topic that is intentionally misconstrued at the highest levels.
One of the main area where merit still rules is sports, even in the University. The very idea that a sports team would reject a top athlete for a less skilled athlete for reasons related to diversity and equity would be viewed as outrageous by most. I find this fascinating.
Actually, hockey is being criticized as being racist because African-Americans are under represented in professional hockey. It doesn’t matter that very few Black people play hockey and THAT is the reason why. The Democratic Party is pushing this narrative, so that they can portray themselves as the saviours of African-Americans to get their vote. Very sad what is happening to this country.
The ugly reason that merit still rules in sports is because the outcomes already have minorities over-represented. On top of this - you are still wrong when it comes to getting sports-related scholarships. There are scholarships for 'most promising black athlete,' but none at all for 'most promising white athlete'. And, hypothetically, if Nike were to choose between two swimmers of roughly equal ability - one black, one white, which do you think they would choose ? How about if they were to choose between two promising young athletes ?
Yes. That does work, if life, like a game, is a competition. It might be, in the reactionary mind, but it isn’t. The athlete loses wind and muscle but does not become stupid. End of that analogy. However, there is plenty evidence that our elders are no longer wise. Probably they are locked into the inanity of competition. The old medical school saw blows up when we acknowledge the the most vital person in the medicine business is the nurse. I have been close to medicine all my life, mother father aunt uncle and brother. The so called “merit” system does produce a lot of narcissists interested in fame, Audis and maintaining a legacy. They are “among the most sublime” because you say so. Even Aeschylus was fascinated by Asia. I dont hate Beethoven, quite the contrary, but he is boring to many. You’re just a snob.
Lowering entrance standards for minorities, and also increasing loan availability. This results in higher student loan debts and higher failure rates for minorities. We end up with more minority citizens shackled to almost unpayable debt. This reminds me of something 🤔 We really need to rethink our policies.
This is what they want though. Enslavement through debt. There is a reason why government doesn't teach economics, budgeting, accounting, and taxation to young students.
I think the gravity of George Floyd had less, really, to do with drugs, police, justice, or racism than it was about symbolism. The strong, mature, handsome, black man symbolized the thing that is missing from the lives and homes of most black Americans; and to witness that symbol's demise(regardless of extenuating circumstances) was particularly devastating for black Americans.
@@jeremyrobbins8033 Yes but the behaviour is the biggest giveaway. The strong, mature black man is also not in the home of his biracial children. The children are now suffering the same fate, poverty stricken with a lack of opportunities. STILL the right question isn't being asked 😕
If there were no video of the murder, nothing much would have happened. The influence of technology and the Internet should not be underestimated. The confluence of a virulent ideology (Wokism), technology (Smartphone+social media) and a pandemic (Covid-19) fuelled a social paroxysm which was triggered by the banal killing of a petty criminal by a sadistic cop.
Jordan Peterson brought me here and I am very grateful to learn about Heather McDonald. Here in Baltimore, the average high school student cant read and write properly. Single-mothers is the norm, everybody is on welfare, drugs and crimes galore, etc. This is no exaggeration, if anything, Ive sugar-coated how bad it really is. Generation after generation the black community gets worse and worse. We need to teach and love the black families back into basic principles and values again. Stop relying on government and others. Start relying on yourself as individuals and members of a nuclear family. It starts with the family period but the families here are non-existent. A two parent household is a rarity but we must make it the norm again. Keep rockin it steady.

White Privilege has been mis-defined by activists. The real privilege in being white in this country is in knowing that when you fail, "it is your fault". No matter the specific reason for the failure, you could not figure out how to overcome it that time. Hopefully the experience of failure this time will teach you enough to succeed next time. If you are being told that there is no point in trying because of race or gender, how likely is it that you will even try? If you never try you, you will never succeed. If you mis-diagnose the reason for your failure how likely is it that you will succeed if you try again? This lecture is a much needed contribution to the race debate.
I'm just over halfway through Heather's book "When Race Trumps Merit." I've already done a great of reading in the realm of anti-racism and critical race theory - but Heather's work goes far beyond examining the philosophical incoherence of these theories and into the real world data and the destruction being caused by this insanity.
I like her comment that the time for racial etiquette is over. The blacks that simply complain about everything need to start solving their problems on their own.
Thank you Heather for so bravely bringing to light the truth about policing, crime, and the dangerous gaslighting about “disparate impact.” It’s so incredibly discouraging that people and institutions would rather spew lies than having honest conversations about effective solutions. 💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤🇺🇸💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤 When people ask me who my current role models are, the top of my list is Heather MacDonald.
The problem is that her voice is clearly in an echo chamber. The interviewer simps WAY too much, and never asks a challenging question. I'm not saying that what she's saying is wrong, but when they pan out to show the audience, it's exclusively white older people in affluent clothing. She may as well be keynote speaker at a Klan meeting. (One of the main problems is that the 'Equity' spewers also have their own echo chambers. Neither side's 'intellectuals' ever get challenged.)
The fact that there is a proportion of humanity that CANNOT see the ridiculousness of these certain aspects of equity is mind-boggling. But what is even worse, are those that pander to this ideology thus fuelling the growth and belief in its stupidity and which will inevitably lead to the fall of western culture and society. SMH
Yes, of course but it is because People Know that if they do, they will be vilified by the type of Person like that Johnson Female with the appropriated Jewish Surname.
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts VMFA in Richmond already does this. On many of their European exhibits they have a contemporary painting from a minority artist as a modern-day answer to the painting. It's so cringe, and is more like a semi upscale art gallery as opposed to a museum.
I taught college physics for 30 odd years, and I've seen a huge decline in student preparation for STEM classes. Basically, most state/local high schools have become a total waste of time for students with math/science aptitudes. For one, curricula doesn't allow for such things as lab periods for learning the tools of inquiry, and two, the teachers have ED-college degrees and don't understand the subjects adequately. Of course, students are not longer "tracked" by academic achievement; my daughter read on a college level in 8th grade while her school 8th failed the No-Child exams, so everyone was put in remedial classes, so everyone could suffer. I told her to just take whatever books she was reading to class and ignore the teacher. I've also advised bright high school students to dropout and take community colleges courses, so they are prepared for a rigorous first-year of calculus, chemistry and physics, all necessary for advancement. So many students have to spend 5 or more years in a decent engineering program, because so many have to do remedial work at a huge expense to their education. So far as disparate impacts, universities have been favoring less qualified women over men for my entire career, they'll hire someone foreign whole looks "ethnic" over the qualified white male. I believe this has enables much of the current university admin, which is all-in on "diversity", anti-racism, and black-lives. Except for football, Track&Field, basketball etc. Where of course whites are continually unrepresented. Thank Christ for trans women pushing racial parity in NCAA events. Being a woman+ might be just the ticket for qualified whites to get into medical schools, etc. What's one penis sacrificed for a stellar career!
So what are you saying, that I needed to be "castrated" to be hired by an organisation or corporation with diversity quotas? Screw it. I reckon if all organisations or corporations tried to fill diversity quotas, they're likely to run out of minority applicants anyway. There are only so many minority applicants in the job market.
@@bonsummers2657 Educationally Deficient, for sure. Unfortunately, it's become a degree you get after you failed at substantive studies. If you serve enough time, you can get a "doctorate", and it's these creature we now see working as DIE deans, e.g. Stanford, etc.
Best swimmers are better if when white skin, better basketballs if black then? Same for physics and law degree? White better at stem cell research but black better at law degree?
When Heather talked about science she was pretty dispassionate, but she really hit her stride when talking about the arts. It's easy to see where her passion lies.
I just came out of retirement due to boredom, and I am in flight attendant training class. One minority participant is consistently late, does not finish his tests in the allotted time, requires that the instructor reads him his answer to ensure she read them correctly, and failed his city codes test due to his “inexcusable ignorance”. Why was he not let go? two reasons : lack of candidates, and …..race. He worked for another carrier, and would not work a flight if the weather was not to his satisfaction, even if the captain had briefed the crew that the bad weather die not warrant a cancellation. DEI in action! Can’t wait to buy this book, and read it in the open, for all to see!
Coming out of retirement to become a flight attendant? That's kind of badass, like Colonel Kurtz doing Airborne Ranger school when he was 40. Good for you! (p.s. Could I get another bloody mary when you get a chance?). Seriously, though, that kicks ass.
The most obvious disparity is in the over representation of black athletes in many sports in the USA. There is little public commentary regarding this imbalance because this is accepted as being merit based selection. Ironically, these are generally among the highest earning members of society.
By "many" you mean less than 2 or 3% Of college educated Blacks. Those speaking publicly, less than 1%. Those who are attempting political action to end it? **0%** At the end of the day, these are only conversations that are held either behind closed doors or in very tepid and disinterested ways. There will never be enough black voices to make a collective push to stop it. The reasons for this are obvious.
“Sorrow & rage.” 😄 I love Heather MacDonald’s honesty - we need many more people with her courage to speak the truth. The way “we” are handling this problem seems emblematic of so much now; superficial, bandaid solutions for big, difficult problems, that only serve to entrench & make things worse.
Anyone ever notice the people preaching "equity" the loudest are some of the most powerful and privileged? It's almost as though they want to solidify their position of authority while making everyone else stay in their socio-economic station. Professors and other failed officials as well. As enrollments drop, as their policies have failed, they tout equity louder and louder because they know their positions are becoming irrelevant. So now you have to fund them, otherwise you are discriminating and you're against equity. Either way, it's all a distraction to prevent holding those in authority accountable.
Thank heaven that Heather MacDonald is prepared to speak out and tell the truth. I'm a Brit and am very concerned to see this peverse ideology invading almost every institution: government departments, H R departments of large firms, once famous universities, the Church.

Equity is so inequitable. The selected characteristics that they attempt to balance across are so limited. Race, sex or sexual orientation are 3 characteristics amount thousands. Why are the others ignored? That idms not very inclusive of or equitable. Does your Age, your wealth, your attractiveness, your personality etc etc affect your outcomes in your lufe? As an European, this scares me more then the war in Ukrain.

Heather is brilliant! Absolutely, brilliant.
My last recollection she is atheist.. which of course no one is actually an atheist, it's pure narcissism..but her intellectual capacity, anyone who pretends God didn't design and create the universe, is severely lacking if that is true
Yes!
This is a responsible woman in power. It takes courage to go against the mainstream and also on a important, relevant subject. Woman take note!! Be more like this...
Heather is a rare gem. Almost Greek in her common sense - Thomas Paine. She is great.
@axileus9327 you're right in that it all starts at home. But the government-run school system have been complicit in allowing it to continue.
It's not the 'schools,' it's the students within them who have the problem.
I can see a lot of her points. But yours? That's literally racist. Literally.
@@ytadventurer9170 Then you missed my point entirely.
@@graymatters7584 Sometimes, the only notable points people have are the ones at the top of their Klan hats.
So you’ve clearly never heard of the famous black surgeon, Ben Carson. Your racism is so freaking obvious
We are already seeing this in our government, military and police leadership.
I hope so. What I'm worried about is that we'll all go insane from everything going wrong and our quality of life going down, and we'll start scapegoating and playing the blame game instead of finding ways of improving things
The environment is toxic for sure. Identity Politics is the destroyer of US Citizenship and civility.
It’s mental illness. There’s no other way to explain this
She and James Lindsay are the cream of the crop when it comes to shining light on this dark matter. Outstanding. Thank you
Too bad that James Lindsay and his cohort Helen Pluckrose are so unbearingly boring to listen to.
I'm black. I'm dismayed that standards are being downgraded. What an insult to black people. I strive to be excellent, and it has NOTHING to do with the colour of my skin!
You are the exception young lady.
👏 may the people you work and study with recognize that
Same here. I am Black and I am only interested in equity as it relates to merit-based opportunities. I am not looking for special treatment or hand outs. Character and merit still matter.
You spell color like a Canadian
I am becoming more conservative thinking because of Heather MacDonald’s and Thomas Sowell’s facts and reality.
As far as the Chicago mayoral election, why Johnson won, when push comes to shove, if it comes down to a race between black and white candidates, most black people will simply vote for a black candidate. Plan and simple.
Yep and the policy of said black candidate doesn’t even matter
Exactly, I was disappointed that no one was brave enough to bring this up in that discussion.
Black elites harm black people more then anyone else -sad
This blew me away I didn't know it was this bad it is like a complete takeover of the traditional belief system....
There's a reason nobody wants to debate this woman. Brilliant, based, and spitting facts
This is eroding public trust in professions such as medicine and actually increasing discrimination against blacks. If you have two doctors one of whom you knew entered the profession without reaching the normal MCAT requirements, who would you choose?
I pick better doctor. Which doctor has better DEI statement? That's which Dr is more capable of course!!
Free and observant people discriminate. This is natural, normal behavior. People who are at-war with normal oppose "discrimination."
@@kptrzk9398 Good luck.
What a spectacular woman!
She’s been brilliant for quite some time. Not bad for lowly female.
Very enlightening analysis and commentary.
The solution to inequality has to be at the front end, not the tail end. So fight crime, support nutrition, push a culture that glorifies study and family integrity, and that will actually make the equity through merit instead of trying to force equity by negating merit.
“Push a culture” is a platitude. It is important to be specific when you talk about these kinds of things.
Exactly, equality of opportunities not outcomes
Perhaps one of the most eminent intellectuals of our time.
It's good to see Heather MacDonald as brilliant, plain spoken and honest as ever.
MacDonald has been absent from youtube videos and I wondered if she were cancelled..... glad to see this!
We are in dire need of more folks like this lady. She's well-spoken and perspicacious on an incredibly important topic that is intentionally misconstrued at the highest levels.
How refreshing to hear someone speak honestly about this subject.
One of the main area where merit still rules is sports, even in the University. The very idea that a sports team would reject a top athlete for a less skilled athlete for reasons related to diversity and equity would be viewed as outrageous by most. I find this fascinating.
I think about that,… what's the reasoning of the DIE advocates?
@Bon Summers that everybody equal!!! And if not equitable represent by group then there a problem. Except when coming to a run or jump skill
This reminds me of something 🤔
We really need to rethink our policies.
@Dean Reeve This also leads to universities becoming remedial classrooms for farm teams, destroying the value of a college degree.
Also, it is straight up Maoist Marxism set up for American society.
This is what they want though. Enslavement through debt. There is a reason why government doesn't teach economics, budgeting, accounting, and taxation to young students.
Thank you SO much, Heather!
Are you Danish? My Danish cousins tell me the madness on US college campuses could never happen in DK. I think it's just a matter of time, sadly.
what I find most annoying is now society has a waypoint or cultural marker called george floyd.
No evidence whatsoever that Floyd's demise was racially motivated, so how did the 2020 "racial reckoning" hysteria make any sense?
Yes, this was not a good man in any way shape or form.

Heather is a woman of monumental moral and physical courage.
I like her comment that the time for racial etiquette is over. The blacks that simply complain about everything need to start solving their problems on their own.

Does ED-college degree mean 'educationally dysfunctional' college degree?
@@bonsummers2657 Educationally Deficient, for sure. Unfortunately, it's become a degree you get after you failed at substantive studies. If you serve enough time, you can get a "doctorate", and it's these creature we now see working as DIE deans, e.g. Stanford, etc.

Another realist-oh, meant "pessimist." That's the new word for realist.
@Poly Purrpuff You can remain in fantasy land if you want. Im not stopping you.
It was a privilege to hear you speak.
If you see a black doctor, run. There is no way to know if that doctor is actually qualified (very low probability) or a diversity hire (very high probability).
"We are not that country today," at 27:50-28:06.
And by making that admission, you give validation to all anti-racist criticisms of the historical America, while simultaneously invalidating the Republic, the Founders, and the Constitution. Ergo, you have effectively endorsed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as our true national constitution, neutered any arguments against racial preference programs meant to accelerate black/brown gains in American society, and hampered all institutions-public or private-with the legacy of our (supposed) wickedness.
A single admission rendering hundreds of hours of effort, great writing, and thorough research null. Bravo, Ms. Mac Donald.
Brilliant Woman, laying out the FACTS. 6900 views. Unfortunately, we;re getting what we dererve.
