ahh i’m sorry i couldn’t get up more during pride month but my work schedule was hectic 😭 i’ll see if i can film a couple more, i’ve been meaning to do a gl specific recommendations for a while now. tysm for watching and for the support ❤️
I love my beautiful man. I def see why people wouldn’t enjoy but I love it. I’ve watched the series many times. And when i saw the manga was getting an official translation i was so excited
Yeah, My Beautiful Man is kind of a tough read. The relationship between the two characters is pretty toxic and obsessive, especially at the beginning, and I believe that that's intentional on the author's part. The further you go, the more clear it becomes that both guys are intensely lonely and don't know how to build healthy relationships. I never ended up finishing the manga...though, weirdly enough, I watched the drama and the movies and liked them. 🤷🤷
thanks for sharing your thoughts! i was very surprised reading the first volume since i had only heard good things about the series but if their relationship isn't meant to be the peak of healthy dynamics I can see more of the appeal. i think i will read volume 2 but i'll keep my expectations low lol
While I understand why some people have rough time with My Beautiful Man, I think the dynamic is very well written. It's about two boys who both were at their lowest points of their lives during HS growing up to be successful adults both in terms of careers and their relationship with each other. While I like fluffy HS romances once in a while, so many of them feel too fluffy and perfect to the point I couldn't take those relationships seriously. But if you'd rather only read a cuddly, squishy fluff you might drop this series rn. I don't want to spoil too much, but their uncomfortable, awkward interactions naturally changing into a healthy, stable relationship is what made this series special to me. They actually managed to find the good balance and live happily together, despite the fact their flaws are still present and occasionally cause conflict of interests. But imo, that what irl relationships are like.
good to know the series is loved, while it may not be for me necessarily i can see the appeal. If my library gets the rest of the volumes i'm willing to finish it off especially if things go into a certain direction like your saying 👁
I was also really hesitant after reading My Beautiful Man, I didn’t like any of the characters and imo it didn’t improve in the next volume. I don’t see how it could go in a romantic direction in the future (if that’s the point). If you liked Snow Fairy (it’s amazing) I think you’ll like Scarlet Secret by the same mangaka. It has a little bit of mature content but it’s a small part of the overall story. The art in both volumes are just breathtaking and I’m so happy that Tokyopop has licensed a third title by them. Acid Town just keeps getting better and better! I just read the sixth volume. I’ve read She Likes Gays… and thought it was interesting. But I need to complete it to form a conclusive opinion. I’m glad it’s a short title (three volumes I think) because it was intriguing enough for me to want to read it all. I liked that it covered some hard topics and that it didn’t glorify the main character and his actions, they seemed realistic for a teenager struggling with his emotions about sexuality.
thanks for the insight on my beautiful man ... ya i was feeling like i was missing something since i've only heard good things. i went to the tokyopop panel at anime expo this weekend and one of the editors even said the series was one of her favorite so ??? i guess it is just not for me lol thank you for the recommendation! i really loved snow fairy so i'll have to check that one out. also excited to keep going with acid town but sad it is a very slow-releasing series apparently 🥲 and i agree about she likes gays. interesting way to explore various topics. i can see it landing very well but also very ... badly depending on how it goes
omg I was just watching a few of your videos and thinking that I wanted an lgbt specific video from you!! so excited lmao
