I loved A Walk in the Woods - it was very funny, informative, made me want to go hiking for a while.

I feel like I had the opposite reaction…it made me never want to go hiking! 😂 Mostly all the stuff about bears. 😳🙈

Hi Jen, I do so love the James Herriot books and loved the tv series just like your mother! Some of my favorite books, heartwarming, funny, sweet, and so much more. James Herriot’s characters are wonderful! And my husband and I along with my dear mother, took a trip to England and spent a week in Yorkshire, tracing all of James Herriot’s places, the pubs, the surgery, the shops nearby, the Wheatsheaf, where James and Helen spent their honeymoon, while taking part in lambing. It was the trip of a lifetime for us. So wonderful. I also remember seeing Alf White, the real James on TV at the height of his book fame.😁❤
I also love Susan Branch and her beautiful books.

What a wonderful trip that must have been! I would love to do something similar someday. 😊

That Rob Lowe memoir just doesn’t get the love it deserves. He really does share some fascinating stories from his life and career. I’m sure I would have loved it even more if I had listened to the audiobook. I have to say my Amazon cart has a few more items sitting in it after watching this video! 😂

What a great list and my favorite type of nonfiction as well. You have several on there that I love, one of which is A Gift from the Sea. I’m intrigued by several others and putting them on my list. The Feather Thief sounds perfect for my husband too, as he’s a fly fisherman. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve read and enjoyed several of the books on your list, but Boys in the Boat is really one of my all time favorites. It was recommended to me by my 17 year old grandson and I readily and often suggest it to others.

Love the original tv series of 'All creatures great and small.' In particular the early series. Beat wishes with your reading choices. I hope you get some great reads.

WOW Jenn! What a great list! It's so "odd" I read reviews of many of these books on Book Outlet as I was eating my supper!! I also love Susan Branch, have for years. I have a few of her books; one being The Fairytale Girl. Often buy her calendar. Do you receive her newsletter or as she calls it the "Willard"? I love books about books. Added those 3 to my TBR as well as many others. You give great recommendations, thank you.We will never, ever forget 84 Charring Cross Rd, will we? Came across my DVD of it today! A horrible, terrible, no good, very bad thing happened. My apt. bldg. is being g totally remodeled ( year long project). After unpacking and putting away ALL my books; I went looking for a couple to put out to read in the next month or so as I take " work breaks." To my horror I discovered there is a whole tote bag full of new bks. missing!! I'm just sick. I did report it and ALTHOUGH I have re-read every title of EVERY book I have in here 15 TIMES , the people who packed me and some unpacking are coming next week to check. I'm just SICK about it. Esp. because I can't remember every title! There were about 12 or so. 😑😑😑😑

I relate to almost all these titles, Jen. Thank you. I so agree with your categories. I read fiction to non-fiction around 3:1 and biographies and memoirs top my list, however, now and then a really good history, even military history, wins me over. For me summer is when I carefully choose two or three biographies. My last one was literary, Flannery O'Connor, by Brad Gooch. Also, since you previously mentioned Elizabeth Von Arnim I thought I'd recommend to you, Joyce Morgan's excellent biography titled 'The Countess from Kirribilli'. I'm from Australia and when I learned Elizabeth Von Arnim was born here and was the cousin of Katherine Mansfield I was so motivated to read - on. I do enjoy each of your vlogs. Happy reading to you ! You've given me ideas here for my daughter, whose first baby is due, through to my mother-in-law who has travelled fairly widely and enjoys travel writing. Thanks again.💌💐

Ok, I’m going to go right now and track down the Elizabeth von Arnim biography! That sounds amazing - thank you for telling me about it. And thank you so much for watching and I’m glad I’ve given you some book ideas as well. 😊

I've read a number of the books you listed and have a few suggestions.
Michael Lewis is another wonderful narrative nonfiction writer. He's written on a number of topics.
Also any of the nature books by Peter Wohlleben. I recently listened The Secret Wisdom of Nature: The Delicate Balance of All Living Things
I'm currently reading Eve: How the Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Human Evolution by Cat Bohannon. It might be a bit too science for some readers, but three generations in my extended family, both make and female, have read recently and enjoyed.

I wish I had Operating Instructions when my son was younger...it sounds exactly what I could have used! I will put it on my TBR to read anyway...and keep it in mind as a great baby gift for future new moms that come my way. Oooh that Shirley Jackson looks great!!! I am currently reading All things great and Small with my student. We love it! Love Susan Branch so jealous that you got to meet her!!!! Lovely video!

I have decided you are my book twin, LOL! I completely agree with you on nonfiction/memoirs. I personally like nonfiction that reads like a story instead of spitting out the facts...Erik Larson, Krakauer, Sebastian Junger...also highly recommend Mary Roach for something different. And I adore Susan Branch and Herriott. I am aware of the story about Bad Blood but haven't read it yet, so I am checking that one out!

If you like James Herriot, I recommend the books of James Rebanks who farms in England’s Lake District. I started with “The Shepherd’s Life”🐑 and then went on to “Pastoral Song.” He has a chatty, engaging style of writing. But don’t stop there. If you like his books, try “The Farmer’s Wife” by his wife, Helen Rebanks. She offers an honest glimpse into the realities of rural living, with the added bonus of recipes.

I love books about books! 📚And that’s why I’m recommending “Why We Read: On Bookworms, Libraries, and Just One More Page Before Lights Out” by American author, Shannon Reed (2024) to all my bookish friends.
