I think Cater doesn't open up much is because hes afraid he'll bother someone with his "meaningless" problems and he doesn't want to be judged either.
In his Halloween personal story he talks about how he's never had a long lasting friendship due to his father's job, Lilia tells him that he understands how he feels and Cater is surprised to find somebody who can relate to him, but then he finds out everyone in Diasomnia has known eachother for years and he feels like Lilia lied to him.
Idk much about Cater's private life but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with his family, I don't think they are actively abusive but I do think they neglect him a lot and gaslight him into doing stuff he doesn't want to do. He even said he would like work all winter with Trey's family rather than go back home for the holidays.
On the bright side it looks like Cater and Jamil could bond a little bit with eachother. In his Jasmine silk personal story Jamil chooses a salmon colored stole for him and when Cater asks him why he choose it Jamil tells him that he chose it because the color reminds him of him (Cater) and then he gets super happy because Jamil chose the stole thinking about him.

I relate with Leona, I love meat. I’d give him a whole meat buffet to make his wish come true-and also dance the “Oniku Kamisama” dance from Haikyuu , too 😄

I like Lilia's the best as it is the most telling about him. Regardless of how the conversation devolved with trey i do believe it is a real desire of Lilia's. As a formal soldier/General he has seen many battles, no telling now much that effects him. Often times it is thoughs who have seen war that desire peace the most.

Cater is friends with Trey, he's just not ready to open up about himself, his personal life and his problems. It's pretty clear he's hiding something but nobody can force him to say what it is

I actually laughed when Leona said I want to eat more meat and I was also a little surprised because I thought he would wish to be king or to sleep more but I don't blame him his wish is good in my opinion🫶
